My home insurance renewal quote came through in the post at £271 - eek! Last year I paid about £80.00. Just went onto confused.com and got it for £78 with Asda - with £68 cashback from Quidco.
Is this too good to be true??????0 -

Possibly
The comparison websites are set up to give you the cheapest possible quotes, you need to check if you have accidental damage cover is it included and do you have cover away from the home is it included. Also check the excess as they have a habit of quoting with an excess of around £200 in total. I recommend you reduce it to something more manageable say £50 which would only put a quote of that price up by about £100 -

Probably :-(
I have heard that Quidco are not quick to give you your money, so it only looks good on paper, would be interested in hearing from those who have successfully got their money paid out from Quidco or any other pay back sites. Nevertheless, £78 is impressive, but depends on what you are insuring - is it building and/or contents insurance? and how big is your home? I found that insurance quotes tended to be higher through quidco and that included Asda. :-/if i had known then what i know now0 -
Does Sanitaryware fall under buildings or contents?
We have an Acc Dam Policy And an accident has meant that our 20 yr old sink in the en-suite has cracked its Ideal Standard and can no longer see it in the range will Esure replace all the sanitaryware sink, toilet, shower tray etc to the same colour assuming it cant be replaced in the same style? It pays to challenge0 -
It should come under buildings cover, they are unlikely to replace the whole suite just the item that is damaged unless you have pairs and sets cover.
You may be able to get a small contribution towards the rest of the set but I would not guarantee it0 -
I have just had a row with Barclays Insurance who have sent me a renewal notice for £80 more than if I took out exactly the same insurance with them by applying again rather than renewing.
This is a consistant approach from Insurance companies who, when you take out a one year insurance, place a notice deep in your policy that if you don't cancel you will default to continue the insurance. Same prctice from many companies in Home, Contents, Car etc etc.
Here's my problem; I frequently work away from home and come back to a pile of documents that need sorting; I renewed my insurance with the Post Office and found that Barclays were just about to take a premium from my account. I called them to say my policy was for one year, their renewal was a rip-off because they are charging me more than if I applied direct; I was informed I would be charged a cancellation fee.
I explained that unless the terms showed quite clearly and obviously that I was signed up for life until I purposefully cancelled that I couldn't agree to the cancellation fee. The lady explained that it was in the policy but she didn't know where and that it was my responsibility to find it and read it.
Being more than a little wound up by this I explained they could sue me for it as the card they have on file is no longer valid for charges.
I have had a look on the Financial Ombudsmans website for a way to make a complaint about this common practice adopted by Insurance Companys as I firmly believe that to take out an annual insurance that defaults to life until cancellation is an unfair practice and should be legslated against. It appears that there isn't a way to make a general complaint of this nature unless a specific company has already been complained against.
Do the forum members think this practice is unfair and perhaps shoudl be specifically legislated against?
What say you?0 -
Whyohwhyme, if you have renewed your policy with the Post Office and the dates are consecutive with your barclays policy. Just send them a photocopy of the Post Office policy, they will be able to see you insured elsewhere and thus would not have claimed on their policy so will lapse their policy from renewal. It should be as simple as that
Just make sure you cancel the direct debit at the bank.0 -

I'm not aware of any Insurers having gone bust recently, it is very unlikely they will as unlike the banks they are very highly regulated. It is however possible although if it did happen the government would most probably bail out the Insurer.
In the event of a claim when your Insurer goes bust the Financial Services Compesation Scheme would pay out 100% of the first £2000 of her claim and thne 90% of the balance of the claim. However if they "had" gone bust she would normally have to take out new insurance unless her Insurer was taken over by another Insurer.0
