It's my beautiful God-daughters 5th birthday next month and she is obsessed with ballet - wants to be Darcy Bussell when she grows up - can anyone think of any homecrafts I can make her which are ballet related for her birthday - Thanks

pinktreefairy wrote: »hi not sure if this is the right thread but last year i made jam from a recipe on here but my question is how do you get rid of the taste/smell of what was in the jar before? i used the 9p curry jars that was suggested and the jam tasted of curry.
I find it's the lids that retain the smell - the jars seem fine after a good wash.
When I'm making chutney or preserves to give as a pressie, I like to use the nicer/unusual shaped jars but if I can't get the smell (and sometimes the colour is offputting too) out of the lids, they get binned.
If I don't need the plain jars, they go on Freegle or for recycling but I keep the lids if I think I can re-use them - very often they'll fit one of the jars I've kept.
You can buy spare lids to fid the average 1lb jars but I've only had to buy them once.0 -
When I made some teacakes I used golden syrup:

Recipe: http://bakes-a-lot-lady.blogspot.co.uk/2011/06/marshmallow-teacakes.html
But note - the marshmallow inside a teacake is really gooey and not 'rubbery' (for want of a better word). I don't know if this is because it doesn't contain Gelatine?[/QUOTE]
Oh my word - they look gorgeous!
And, they look even better than the ones made on the blog

Make her a craft kit?
you could print off some colouring-in shapes (similar to these http://www.coloring-pages-kids.com/coloring-pages/sports-coloring-pages/ballet-ballerina-dance-coloring-pages/ballet-ballerina-dance-coloring-pages-images/ballet-coloring-page-11.php
http://freecoloringpagesite.com/37-ballet-coloring-pages.html ) & make a little book & give some crayons/pencils with it.
Or you could make a ballet-themed wordsearch http://www.discoveryeducation.com/free-puzzlemaker/?CFID=1937824&CFTOKEN=57862039
There are some free printable images here that could be cut out & mounted onto lolly sticks http://thevintagemoth.blogspot.co.uk/2011/09/vintage-paper-dolls-ballet-dancers.html
perhaps you could get some pink wallpaper scraps or scrapbook papers and make 'newspaper' ballerinas together with her?
***just thought, can she tie her shoelaces? If not you could make a cardboard ballet pump, thread some ribbon through and get her to practice with that**0 -
Aww thanks!! I did double up (I think - or at least 50% more) the marshmallow so it was fatter than the ones in her blog. And I used way more chocolate to cover them than she recommended. lol.Oh my word - they look gorgeous!
