My daughter stains the fabric before she draws the design on her work. Before you start to sew pin the wadding to the calico and then as you sew you are sewing rough both fabrics. The wadding flattens as it is sewn. Hope this helps.
For the staining I soak the calico in a strong tea or coffee solution. Then I wring it out and iron it dry. I iron it with the iron on full and this scorches the fabric, which I like that look. Keep the iron moving so you don't have a burnt iron shape on your fabric. Then draw the design on. Which design are you going to make.Nothing Changes if Nothing Changes0 -
Hi, I've been looking at all of the fab ideas on this thread and I'm totally inspired, I think I'm going to have to get a bigger craft box! Just a quick question if that's ok...I'm looking at making some filled cups with hot chocolate etc as gifts and I'd like to add the tiny whisks and small packs of micro marshmallows, I have searched online but can't find either, has anyone got any ideas where I could look?... Thanks so muchquick!!!!...Only 1 shopping day left until tomorrow!!0

i got mine in wilkinsons last year
they were 2 for 99p (2 different sizes, both suitable for a mug)
if you wish to keep the costs down
chocolate coat spoons
you can use the same small bags you will need for the mini marshmallows
i have done wooden teaspoons before, but no the plastic ones
but i had them as i made plant markers for the garden with them

So I shared this on the general Christmas chat thread but guess it belongs here really as it was homemade
Cost = £0. Cardigan/Jumper was an old one I no longer wear, and I just used thread I already have.
(I have since made another matching one.)
And I have just finished this. This wasn't MSE. But I enjoyed making it so I don't care!! (It would have been cheaper to just buy one already made!!). It cost £31.62 in total
Since taking this photo I have adjusted the random leave that is sticking out of the side on the right.
My next Christmas craft is going to be making the stacked newspaper Christmas tree from Martha Stewart's website. But not sure how long ahead of time to make these - whether the newspaper will sag.

I buy my mini marshmallows in home bargains, about 70-90p a bag I think and usually on the top shelf near the puddings/baking stuff. Can't miss the pink and white striped bag. Asda sometimes do them as well in the baking section but they cost more if I recall correctly.
