Just to wet your appetites folks, this one is on my to do list!! http://www.cedarberrystitches.com/911TallTree.jpg Its one of "Kassies" creations. A friend of mine has completed this and it is fab.
I use calico fabric for my stitchery and I use a pen that fades with water. http://www.craftsandquilts.net/water-soluble-marking-pen-17430-p.asp My local haberdashery shop sells them as do Hobbycraft. Basically sew on the lines but dont get your undies in a twist if the ink still shows. Once finished sewing I run it under a tap and it simply disappears.
I also use thin wadding, or batting under the calico as it gives your work some body. Once all sewn I rinse to get rid of the ink and then I iron it dry with very hot iron. This leaves scorch marks which ages the fabric or you can tea or coffee stain it. After all this I then use basic water colours or craft chalks, like for card making to do the "colouring in" I almost always sew with 2 strands and use brown thread.Nothing Changes if Nothing Changes0 -

If no one has invited you yet, PM me with your email and I'll send you an invite. You can also register with them without an invite but it can take a few weeks for them to get back to you that way.0 -
Sethsgran thanks very much for all your help, have I got it right that you stitch round a pattern onto fabric, then stain and chalk?0

Place pattern under the fabric and trace off the pattern using a water soluble pen. I like to use a thin layer of wadding as backing to the fabric. Then sew through both layers of fabric/wadding, usually back stitch or running stitch. After sewing rinse fabric in water and watch the blue ink disappear. Then stain and chalk.Nothing Changes if Nothing Changes0

brilliant news today, our sewing machine has been very very sick so we have been digging online and finally found a place that sells the manual. So we bought the manual then opened her up and cleaned her out and we've figured out she needs a new motor belt. Cue further googling and we've ordered her a new belt and some new needles. Yay! We honestly thought she was totally seized up.
On crafting news, my 1st taggy blanket is cut up. Just have to sort out the wadding and ribbons. I've also agreed ot make another taggy blanket for a uni mate who's having a baby girl. It would seem all my friends are settling down, getting married and having babies. Seems strange. Like we're not really old enough! Was debt free then ex walked out and COVID hit.0 -
Thanks again Sethsgran I will definitely give these a go0
