I have a half tin of chopped toms. Unlikely to use before next weekend. Have frozen in a washed out yoghurt pot. Will they be ok?
Yes it'll be fine. I froze half a jar of pesto yesterday in an ice cube tray. Very pretty - looks like moss. Today froze 3/4 jar pasta bake sauce in another ice cube tray. 15 cubes, so 5 will stir into a serving of pasta. 3 lemons in need of using up. toying with home made lemon curd.

I am normally an ok cook (promise) and I have totally stuffed up a banana loaf - had to bin, it was my biggest cooking failure ever - feeling very down in the dumps about it!

Has anyone got a good recipe please? - it will help me restore my faith in myself!

Pick one you like the look of: banana bread, cake or muffins?

I know this says Panasonic - but it should work anywhere... Really easy Panasonic BM Banana Bread

And in case of disaster... Can I use 'dense' banana bread for anything?

  • Need to declare half a green pepper hit the bin yesterday - but it was reduced anyway so the cost was 20p.

Doing much better this month - day off today so need to go through fridge to sort it -keeping fingers crossed I don't have to throw anything else out!

  • Oh dear, my first throw aways of the challenge! Did my kitchen cupboards out yesterday and found a rotten onion lurking. Very odd as I don't keep onions in the cupboard! Also chucked quarter of an orange which I had accidently left on the counter all night to dry up. So 17p wasted so far, probably would be a lot worse if I wasn't doing this challenge as I am so aware of what needs using up now!

  • Have to declare another 40p - half a tub of couscous which we fancied when hungry in the supermarket, just before the snow hit - and then somehow cold salady type food didn't seem so appealing!

Mind you, that's only 46p so far this month, and we're nearly half way through!

Eaten the left over take away curry, now fingers crossed I am back posting again tomorrow!

What can I do with a packet of meringue nests? Don't fancy the usual fruit and cream combo
  • quit proud of myself today, stripped yesterday's chicken up and put in a tub and have put in the freezer... i thought if i dont use it this week, i will use it for sunday dinner next week, this will save me making something straight away like a curry and not eating it and saves buying a bird for this sunday.

Also left over mash has been frozen, which will be used whenever i need it.

dont know why i didnt think of this before saving it for next sunday that is as well as surplus veg has gone in a bag and frozen for when needed.
