  • Bit of a dilemma - do I count the (still in date) cottage cheese that someone seems to have pinched/chucked out of the office fridge? It was about 45p worth....

On the plus side I noticed that a cauli was looking a bit ropey but didn't fancy cauli cheese. Looked in my rivercottage veg cookbook for inspiration and decided to roast it with lemon, paprika and olive oil and serve as a side dish. OH was dubious at first, but we both thought it was yum! :T

Had to throw away 1/2 an orange that had gone a bit soft, about 9p. I've also had a cucumber in my chiller cabinet for a while that's on the turn, that will be 50p gone. I had really good intentions with that, but you just have to be in the mood to eat salad and the chill hasn't helped :o.

  • I had to throw away a couple of mouldy tomatoes this afternoon. OH reckons the fridge is stinking. Unfortunately I'm full of cold so can't identify it... but I've looked and there's nothing in there that should be causing it to smell.
Maybe it just needs a good clean.

Forty five pence worth of odds and ends. <sigh>

Still, not bad since that's my total so far for February :)

  • I'm not doing too bad with my throw aways so far this month. I have however made the fatal mistake of ordering a massive Indian take away tonight. There is plenty left. Will it keep? Its going to blow my total if I cant eat it tomorrow!!

I have a half tin of chopped toms. Unlikely to use before next weekend. Have frozen in a washed out yoghurt pot. Will they be ok?

Yes it will keep! I used to chuck out our left over Indian takeaways til MIL told me to bung it in the fridge. Mind you we rarely have takeaways now and tend to order less so not such a problem (big sigh). You can enjoy another Indian meal tomorrow...for free! Just make sure its piping hot when you re-heat and it will be yummy. :D
  • Can I please join you all in this challenge. Every week I must throw away at least £10 worth of stuff that I havent used up in time (thats not including the stuff that ends up in the do) and every week I say I need to reduce the amount I waste but never seem to reallyu do anything about it. Confession my wasteful behaviour to others may like attending slimming class give me the incentive to actually do something about the issue.

We always order too much and have it for breakfast :o.... sometimes its been known to make lunches for 3 consecutive days. Just be careful with rice which can have toxins in that cant be killed with reheating. I always cook fresh or have chipattis instead.
