Julie, you do brilliant with your groceries ! I think I'll be asking for some tips along the way
.
Do you have time to do the survey sites? I used to do them before I started work again and although a bit time-consuming, I did make a few £££s from them. Is there anything you could make in your spare time that you could sell at a car boot/local table top sales?
I would suggest growing your own veggies (we do here) but seeing as you're going away in the summer, you'd not reap the benefits very much. Things such as spinach, beetroot, cabbage could be sown over the next few weeks (in pots if you don't have space?) It might save you a little bit on your groceries
I plan, plan, plan my groceries... the Grocery challenge helped, as did all the cooking advice on OS! I make a meal plan (I normally start the thread each week) and plan around that! At the moment it's really hard as my food requirements while pregnant are so expensive!!!! But the boys are eating cheap stews and soups so we can stick to budget!
I do use survey sites, but they are so tedious and slow to reward... with the baby here soon I might not have the time :S I really have to try and get stuck back into them...!
We tried growing veg, but we get overrun with slugs everytime, and no matter what we do we cannot control the blighters! I do my potatoes in tubs but the tubs got damaged this year...! I might see what pots I have and do spinach... the rabbits would cost me less if I home grow it... they eat £2.50 worth of fresh veg a week...!We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy! Mortgage Free Wannabe :dance:Overpayments Made: £5400 - Interest Saved: £11,550 - Months Saved: 240 -
Ahhhh the blighters that are slugs ! As unenvironmentally friendly as they are, the only way i've conquered them is with slug pellets I'm afraid.
We don't get much wildlife in our garden, the seagulls see to that, they're scary down here ! But I do try and cover things with fleece/cloches to deter other little things from eating them.
You're definitely way ahead of me julie on the money saving techniques. Do you give lessons ?
.
I'm off to work in a while, so I'll pop on later and see if we've got any more challengers.
I'm also going to set aside some time tonight to sit with a pen and paper and take some notesand try a mealplan for the first time in ages
.
Thank you squeaky for the links, I've copied them to the first couple of posts, I hope you don't mind?
Have a good afternoon everyone xxSave £12K challenge 2015 # 173£0.00/£10,0000 -
Oops!
I can't believe that the Meal Planning threads are not mentioned on the Grocery Challenge and, indeed, the Don't Throw Food Away one. They're an integral part of shopping well and avoiding waste!
Sorry.
I'll edit in a mention in the new 2012 thread now.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. I have worked it out that if I can put away £185.00 per month until June that will pay for our holiday in Sea Palling on the east coast.I have paid the deposit already of just under £700.00 and the balance is around just under £1300.00.My DD sees to all the food and incidental exes and my left over cash from my housekeeping purse pays for the ice creams. There are 7 of us all told, DD,her OH four boys and myself. Katie is going off to Dominican Republic with her fiancee. So far I have put the first £185.00 away in a seperate savings accout towards our holiday. Its a lovely thatched cottage with a nice big garden for the dogs .Two weeks by the sea, so hopefully the sun will shine on us all and we will come back brown and relaxed.Belt-tightning procedures are in place already0

As this isn't an Old style challenge, and it's dropped down the OS board, ive moved this to the how much have you saved board

Hi, A very nice idea for a challenge. I will not be joining as only have 3 months to go before we go to Vegas so I will be spending time to research for that but I will definitely be looking at this thread with interest for our next holiday (though don't know where yet)
Good Luck and Happy New Year

Can I please join this? We have decided that we wouldn't be going on holiday in 2012 as we just can't afford it but I have been through our money and if we are really careful then we should be able to save £1500 by the beginning of July. We normally go to Butlins so we will probably do that again, £1500 should cover a week for 2 adults + 4 kids, travel, spending money and pet sitter.
So could you please put me down for £1500 by July 2012. I am a bit rubbish with money so hopefully this will give me the kick up the backside that I need!Slimming World - 3 stone 8 1/2lbs in 7 months and now at target :j0 -

Hi Zippy
I'm a bit confused by the 'move' of this thread - considering that we are saving using old style methods and using the old style boards for help, I would have thought that it was the ideal place for this challenge? I fear we will be lost in the depths if we stay here.
Is there any chance you could move us back, pretty please?Save £12K challenge 2015 # 173£0.00/£10,0000 -
Majjak i thought the same thing as you... we are using OS ways to save for our holidays. And it's OS to save before you go on holiday and not pay after
Anyway, I got my exercise bike on eBay after putting it off for months! I am getting motivated! :T
I told DH all about the challenge and he then spent yesterday cleaing my car in preparation of selling it once Roo is here and I no longer need it. I have a friend who's interested in it... if not I think I will just take it to the dealer (They'll give me less money BUT then I won't have to pay for the service... plus the car is more valuable to them because it has a full service history with them... good selling point!)We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. Morning Julie
I'm on the case about the 'move'Hopefully we'll be back in Old Style soon.
Yay for the exercise bike on Ebay ! A good time to sell as people will be wanting to start their new year health kicks (unlike me!). Keep us updated
Fantastic news about the car too :j.
I managed to get a few reduced bits in Sainsburys last night so the freezer is stocking up nicely. I've joined the grocery thread for Janjuary and whatever I come in under budget will go towards the holiday fund. So, the more I get now, the more chance of me coming in under target
I've got visitors between now and new years day so I'm going to start my mealplans etc after they've gone.
Work again later today so I'll pop on later tonight :beer:Save £12K challenge 2015 # 173£0.00/£10,0000
