Can I join in too please - we are of to Florida in August, as a celebration of our silver wedding anniversary - there will be fouir of us me and DH and two sons 20 and 16. I have paid for my flights and car hire courtesy of a win with the Real Deal and have added the balance of the win to savings so far to make a total of £1096 but have worked out that we will need a further £3750 for villa (a bargain at £950 - paid £100 deposit), spends and theme park tickets - My parents and paying for a meal and segway tour as an anniversary gift and we are hoping that other family members might do something similar (hubby is youngest of 7 and they always club together for special celebrations). I will be saving money on parking at airport as DH gets it free with job.
I will be starting meal planning and budgeting for the first time with this weeks shop, Diesel bill is cut dramatically now that eldest is at uni and no 16 miles twice a day to training - although we do help him out financially as much as we can. Have just changed power supplier so anything saved there will be added to savings - oh and most importantly I have only been on one sale shopping trip youngest needed new school shoes, cost me £45 unfortuantly he has really narrow feet and so can only wear certain style. I am going to start making birthday and christmas presents for next year I have boxes of fabric etc in my loft and plenty of time. Will keep you posted with progress.

Yesterday I got a cheque from music magpie for £16 and OH says he is going to sort out some more CDs for there.

    So now on £291 :T
I wanna be in the room where it happens

majaak - would you mind telling me how many people will be going on your disney hol and if you'd be stopping at a disney hotel or not? We also want to go somewhere between the date you've mentioned and before Sept 2014 (due to DD starting Secondary school). We last went in 2005 courtesy of a sharesave and DD was under 3 so we didn't have to buy theme park tickets for her, so I can't remember how much anything was or what it will likely cost now.

Remeber if you do stay at a Disney hotel you get free dining, it is well worth upgrading to the Disney Dining Plan if you ar ein a moderate hotel its around £10 per day per person worth every penny though

    Morning everyone

I've updated the first page with new challengers and new totals (well done VJsmum ! :j)

andrinaperry makes a very good point about the disney hotels. They do have excellent dining plans - the only reason we stayed on international drive is because ours were older (12, 14 and two 18-year olds) and they weren't keen on staying in a hotel with lots of really little ones. Let us know if you want to join in spendless and I'll add you to the front page. Even if you're not sure where or when you want to go, you can still start saving up :D

Big welcome to hollysmum22 and No.1swimmum - keep popping on with all your progress and moneysaving :money:

julie yay for Ebay ! I'll bet your DH has lots of things you could sell (I know mine has ! He just won't let me at 'em :rotfl:).

I had another good 'whoopsie' shop last night, got 18 x 2 pint milks for 19p each (usually 89p) and pizzas for our weekend guests down to £1.29 from £4 (the huge waitrose ones). If you have a waitrose near you, it might be worth popping down as the two stores near us do mega reductions during the evening :D.

I can't start my savings off until the end of January - DH gets paid on the 6th Jan but we use his money for bills/food etc. I get paid at the end of the month so whatever is left of DH money by that time will go away, plus anything left from my wages when DH gets paid again in Feb. A bit confusing, hope that makes sense ! :o.

Right I have to get my bum in gear and get this house ready for our 5 + dog guests . Should be a fun New Year ! :p

  • Yay!!! My Bike sold for £51!!!!!!! That's the money for Baby Roo's passport covered :)

I will put £50 in the holiday pot...!

I want to change my total Challenge to £1160 to include many things I have forgotten about, but already budgeted for the money!

I still only need to worry about where the £250 spending is coming from... the rest will come over the next 7 months!

    So I now have £250/£1160
We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy!

Yay for the bike selling :T. I won't start saving until next week, December was a horrible month money wise - I was signed off for 4 weeks after tripping over at work and damaging the tendon in my foot.

I can't wait to get the ball rolling and see the pennies add up!
Slimming World - 3 stone 8 1/2lbs in 7 months and now at target :j

We figured an exercise bike would sell better at this time of year :)

I did that once, took 5 months to heal enough for me to stop limping... I fully sympathise and I hope you get better real soon... and start saving those pennies :D

Hi Everyone, Happy New Year !
The relatives have gone home now so back to normal :(. Decs are down and the house is tidy at last !

Welcome princess pixiedust - I've got a similar amount to save so will be cutting back big style this year. I'm sure we can do it ;).

Fab news julie ! I'm going to have a look over the next few weeks and see what I can get listed on ebay too. I did have a major blitz last year so probably only have odds and ends, but it will all add up. I've changed your totals for you ;).

kjm poor you ! I hope your foot heals quickly, I don't think many of us managed to save in Dec so I wouldn't worry. Make sure you rest up and don't try to do too much before you're ready x

I put a few pennies in a pot today, I figure those will add up over the course of the year too. Looking forward to the end of the month when I can declare an amount for the front page towards our total :o !

I'll try and pop down to the local supermarkets tonight to see if I can get any whoopsies to keep the food bill down. I'm determined to come in under my grocery challenge budget for probably the first time ever :rotfl::o. Feel free to give me a kick up the butt if I don't !

How's everyone else doing? I hope you all had a good New Year xx

Hi can I join too pls?

This is exactly the challenge I needed on here as I'd already set myself a personal challenge of saving £3000.00 by Feb 2013 for a holiday. Not sure where it will be to yet. Either to Oz to visit my sister, or skiing. This will be for DH, DD, DS and myself. Depends on whether my sis comes home to visit this year or the year after.

These savings will need to be from additional income/savings I make on groceries/against budgets I've set for bills.

We do have some holiday money budgeted in the amount we save monthly but that's really to cover a summer holiday, not this one.

I have already a little saved £50ish, and over 30 items on ebay, 5 with bids on! I think I may also have some money sat in my Paypal account so need to check that but will leave some in there to cover fees.

I am also using up the contents of the freezer/larder this week and not going shopping. My aim is not to shop until Monday. If I manage it, I should have at least £100.00 grocery money left over at the end of the month to add to my savings.

I have worked out the £3000 in a year is less than £8.25 per day which seems very doable.

    Good luck everyone
