I also sorted out some clothes to take into The Wardrobe to see if I can make some pennies. Had a look through the bags of things from last years CB and was surprised at how many items I had which were suitable for the shop - incl a couple of skirts I was mentally ummming and ahhhing about selling...I didn't even realise I'd already taken them out of the wardrobe. Got a few items to take in tomorrow to see what they suggest selling them for, and some drying where I put them through a quick wash to freshen them up.

  • Think I might have to start a book challenge! Was dragged out shopping on Sunday - spent nothing on clothes but £10 in the Works. To be fair, art stuff for daughter, two books were presents and the book for me I had wanted for ages and was less than half price, but £10 more than I had planned on spending.

Unfortunately 5 year old daughter has just started getting pocket money so now wants to go shopping every weekend.... Trying to convince her to save it up and go shopping once a month but it's still a novelty so don't think that will work. Can't complain - the first time she got it she insisted on going into town with her dad and all she wanted to buy was chocolates for me.......... Awww :D

Ahhh, DD sounds lovely - I still remember being told I was going to get pocket money at the same age (20p a week :D) I remember being picked up from school by mium and dad in the car (a real treat esp as dad was usually at work at that time) and how the conversation went still to this day. I also recall 20p bought me sweets OR stickers from the newsagent on a Saturday (dad would always take me) but if I'd been esp good I'd choose one, pay for it and he'd buy me the other as a treat (with a shhhh don't tell mum ;)) I won't say exactly how long ago that was but it was a loooonnnngggg time.

Hi everyone! I got 6 new purchases this week
But all were so cheap, couldn't possibly say no... :p
Plus I sold a freebie shampoo set (Ojon) on ebay so i felt like it's treats time!
One dress was a swap so sort of doesn't count, then there was a girl selling any four items for £6, so couldn't possibly resist... lol And I also bought this smart dress I already own, but ruined (i snipped the collar off and tried to alter it to a lower cut, but failed!), I've been wishing for a chance to buy the same one again so :T

    January so far:
2012-01-03 Asos black sheer blouse £15.75 (paid £17.50 but found a 10% off code and re-ordered it!)
    2012-01-10 Ebay H&M Trend wool dress £5.95
2012-01-16 FCUK dress, postage only (swap from Bigwardrobe) £1.70
2012-01-17 H&m Trend smart dress, secondhand from thriftstoreuk/ livejournal selling forum £6.00
2012-01-17 Primark animal skirt, same place as above £1.50
    2012-01-17 topshop knitted headband ^-£1.50
    2012-01-17 topshop denim shorts^ £1.50
    2012-01-17 h&m beige skirt ^ £1.50
    Total clothes spend: £35.40
    Budget : £20
    over spend:£15.40

Made £16 profit on the ebay shampoo so would it be naughty to write off the £15.40? :rotfl:

talking to DH and told him about my £500 budget...he said " you have spent that already!"...."no " I smuggly told him "only £89"(and I saved £163!)

have just ordered a pair of black trousers from Windsmoor down to £29 from £99.Now I know in the past people have thought these as still expensive and I don't have to justlfy myself BUT I have such a struggle to get trousers to fit as have long legs and no waist:( and have found over the years Windsmoor do fit.I refuse however to pay £99 and have waited to see if they had any that go down in price,at 70% off I think that is as low as it will get:rotfl:their site also made me feel good as I needed the smallest size they do a 12:) and sometimes their 12s are too big(ok I know in the real worls a 12 is not what it used to be as when I was in my 20s pre children and 3 stone lighter I wore a 14:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:)

    Debt-free and Proud!
Tried to set free a purple blouse I've never worn (it's identical to another blouse, bar colour, I have so assumed it would fit and didn't try it on and it didn't!) but it still looks a bit tight, maybe in a few weeks... So instead, I am wearing a sleeveless blouse I usually only wear in summer with a cardi, not quite freedom as such but a change of season at least.
  • I do wish we had a "like" button on here so i could like all your posts!!! :)

well i'm pleased to report no more spends! YEEEESSS!!! feels good.

Also, has anyone read the article in the Mail about chemicals used in clothing - apparently (of course it may not be true) a lot of clothes sold in the UK contain many harmful chemicals including formaldehyde etc....basically it was about some women who have severe allergic reactions to these and they are not labelled on the goods we buy. Often the only indication of their prescence is a strong plasticky smell.

Another good reason why its better to buy from charity shops as if the goods are washed multiple times they are less likely to contain the chemicals.

Has anyone every heard about this type of thing before??? I have recently stopped using detergents on my clothes and use soapnutshells instead which are great - my clothes are soft - they don't smell and are nice and clean although whites are a bit tricky i must say.

    best wishes, moggy :)
