  • Hello, I would like to join :)

My total for the year is already a bit eye-watering cos I bought myself some leather boots and a leather jacket in early Jan, eek!

I have to opposite problem to a lot of you on this thread in that I have very few clothes, so need to do some serious re-stocking this year.

Given that, I think I will go for a lofty target of £1,000! But I need everything- shoes, tops, bottoms, dresses you name it!

I also must avoid online shopping cos I ALWAYS send it back so need to train my brain to remember this :o

  • Great idea - can you sign me up for £100 too.

I tell myself I don't really buy many clothes, then I buy yet another black t-shirt, then another pair of black jeans or leggings, then another black cardi, then another pair of black boots...........then I decide I wear too much black and buy yet another bright patterned top!

Had a recent splurge in the Joe Browns sale - but not counting that as it was (just) in 2011 and it was spending my mother in law's very generous Christmas cheque! But hopefully those lovely new clothes will keep me going for a while..........
  • Nipped into M&S before work today as I'd been keeping my eye on the undies in the sale and patiently waiting till they reduced them right down. Woohoo managed to get 2 new bras for £3 each instead of the original £22. Was desperate as losing weight recently has meant all my bras are miles tooo big for me so they were a necessity. No more spending this month now though- I think the run up to my holiday may be difficult as I don't own many summer clothes.

Oh dear, well still on £0 so far for the year but walked past a place in town today which is opening something called 'The Wardrobe' from the end of the month. From what I can tell they will sell your second hand clothes for you, I'm assuming taking some commission (else it would be a rubbish earner for them :rotfl:). Not sure of exact pricing policy etc etc but assuming it doesn't turn into some kind of jumble sale, it could potentially be both a great place for bargains, and my downfall. :o I'm interested to know how the selling thing works though, might be able to take some clothes in there to sell before the car boot season -or ones that are too good for the car boot like a beautiful jacket I bought in Canada which is like new, cost me £40 and £10 was deemed 'too expensive' when I tried to sell it at the car boot - I said I'd rather take it home than be ripped off by someone for it - so I did :p

  • I would love to be able to spend only £100 but I seem to spend that weekly on clothes which are completely unnecessary.....I convince myself that I need things, despite the fact I Have a whole wardrobe of clothes lying dormant and unloved! My rationale will vary depending on the purchase, I deplore my mindless spending yet dont stop! I do wonder if I am filling a void somewher.....?!

    Hello Ophelia Jane,

I have been in denial about regularly spending £500 per M+S sale.
I have run up so much credit card debt in this way.
I definitely did it as a way to fill a void.

I have been given a second chance as through an inheritance I have been able to pay off my colossal debts and start again.
I joined this challenge after spending yet another £500 pounds in the Christmas/January sale.
I have set my target as £500 pounds for the year.
I don't spend the money all in one hit. I tend to swoop on some items in the initial reductions. Then swoop again in the further reductions in store and on line. Then when it gets to the Final Clearance I get the early train into the city and I'm like a woman posessed.
I need to update my total but yesterday I bought a beautiful Speziale black velvet evening skirt reduced form £60 to £6.
Today I bought a beautiful quality jacket with a similar reduction.
In this way I kid myself that I am saving money and I somehow manage to blot out the fact that my compulsive shopping is adding up to so much.

(On the plus side people always tell me how nice I look :o:()

Sorry for the long post but another thing I must add is that I love all my clothes and that is why I am also such a hoarder. What a nightmare.

Anyway I'm going to keep reading this thread and try to keep posting and I really hope that this will be the year that I regain my sanity
If you're still reading thank you x

At least you love all your clothes! And you recognise your problem, its a big start!
I buy clothes because I was always called ugly. Sadly, because of this, I feel even the nicest clothes make me look like a "sack of spuds tied in the middle" (my mums name for me) , so i spend more and more and still don't look any better. I need to spend less but buy things that properly fit and suit me. (When I have had a clean out, which could happen, honest!)

Please can I join? Im going to set myself at £150 as I'm really good until student loan time comes then I have a bit of a blow out and replace all my tat..... hmmmm if I have a challenge though I'll be more inclined to stick to it :)
  • The lure of the charity shop got me today £3.99 on a pure wool jacket. I went into the city for a meeting and was going to pop into the haberdashery shop for a clasp for my coat. Wahey, forget that, why not buy a new coat? Mindless, nonsensical thinking must stop!!! Grrrrrr
