Hi Kerfuffle-I am doing the challenge to reign in my spending as we consolidated all our debt last year and put it on the mortgage-this year I want to start overpaying the mortgage so we can get it all paid off before we are 95! I have a budget set for the year for clothing, haircuts, presents etc and am aiming to pay my car insurance ,road tax and house insurance in full rather than monthly as I want to reduce the monthly amount of direct debits that come out of our account and not give the insurance companies any more money than I need to!
Having said all that so virtuously, I went back to the charity shop to get some trousers and a top that I spotted the day before but have taken that from my allowance!
Hi SuziQ1962,
Thanks for sharing your plans, similar situation here, not consolidated a loan but hoping to pay off loans this year so we can make mortgage overpayments next year.
It's good to see you're taking charity shop purchases out of your allowance, I think charity shops are great, it can take ages to browse a good charity shop and sometimes I'll go in with a finding a certain item and other times I'll go in just to see what's available. Sometimes I spend, sometimes I don't, but either way it fulfills the need to shop.
I'm doing lots of challenges this year to keep me on the straight and narrow, and it's making me tighter than the proverbial..................... ( fill in the blanks) :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
If anybody on MSE asks 'what should I do with this money?', my answer is always 'pay it off the debt', sometimes it's not what people want to hear so I hope my previous response wasn't too heavy handed.:)
ETA: I've just realised, I don't have a need to shop, I want to shop. Must address this need versus want.0 -
spent £5 on 2 scarfs from prADAmark and also £19.99 on a pair of boots from Qu*z. All came from my xmas money so wont be taking out of my allowance, which thanks to some freedom days and my xmas money is still (surprisingly) fully intact!!

Resisted a spend wooo!
lol it was a vibrant bright green coat, been on fashion magazines/ and street style blogs because the owner is a fashion blogger, and it was only going for £15! I convinced myself my life will be more beautiful once i have this beautiful coat, and for my weekend trip in february it'll be fantastic... As I was putting the item on my auto sniping tool, it came up as error! it said 'no free snipes remaining'
So I took it as a sign from God lol, and instead of paying for the sniping tool, i'm just going to not use it this year, that'll cut down on a lot of unneccesary ebay spends! Usually it's too easy, i put the item number and how much i want to spend and it does all the work for me :rotfl:
Anyway I still manually logged in on the night the auction was ending to *maybe* buy it, and it was going up to £17 plus p&p! Mmm
Checked it this morning and it went for £70+, it wasn't even that good quality! I just 'saved' £70, thanks:j mse!0 -
good news been to the docs and all the tests prove I am actually in pretty good nick for my age:)
bad news she does not know what is wrong with me:(.....says could have been an infection and may take a few weeks to be back to normal, actually said lack of vit D in winter not helping so my holiday to tenerfie is justified then?!!!
sooooooo i can now go clothes shopping as not got diabetes so don,t(:rotfl:)need to lose weight!0 -
Nipped into Gap on my way home from work as their sale is now on 75% off. Picked up a nice jersey wrap dress for £9.99. Very classic in style and decent quality - it was originally £40 so a great bargain. I'm a bit embarrassed at having spent so much only 2 weeks into 2012, but I figure now is the time to buy, not in 2 months' time when everything is full price.:rotfl:0

Rosemary - hope you're feeling better soon and they find out whats wrong.
Thanks for all the advice / replies / support people
Before coming on here i dragged alot of my clothes out of the wardrobe - will have to cram alot back in again but will leave some stuff out 'to see'
Little worry is i'm going to one of my fave shops with OH tomorrow  And i know there are 2 things in there that are a want / need - a cardigan and new leggins - mine have been worn to death- but i have no money for either so hopefully this will stop the spending
Oh and after reading about people 'finding stuff' in their wardrobes - i found 2 pairs of trousers with tags on :eek::eek: - 1 pair was that i bought some new pants for work without trying them on and they were too big- took them back but they'd sold out of the smaller size and i could only exchange or credit note and the shop is quite pricey (my pants were reduced from £90 to £17) so i looked around and exchanged them for something the same price (couldn't afford to spend more or risk a credit note for things that were still too dear) So these are quite a smart pair of pants but i think i'll try and make the money back on eb*y
And the other pair - bought in the sale (in a rush
) Huge tag said they were my size - little tag inside said they were a size smaller - time for me to slim down into these ones i think (3+ stone to shift here )

know that feeling!!!!
again wearing purple/turquoise mix as two compliments in one day was amazing:)....different top today tho, decided to do the pink candle thing and wear nice outfit even tho only doing housework and going for a swim.
may have accidently bought a skirt and jacket online from phase eight:rotfl:....skirt is one I have been lusting after for ages and is now half price, jacket is a Channel look one that is reduced to £30 from £100 but probably too small:(....oh and a dance skirt down to £20 from £70...will let you know what I keep when they arrive.bought through quidco so postage paid for.Did think about some kew159 stuff but their post is £4.95 AND you pay return:eek:(phase 8 is only £2.95 and free returns) don't these people think we won't care about postage?they say on the website it makes their clothes cheaper but they are quite expensive anyway and probably more than phase eight /east0 -
Hi all - good to see that some of you are still no spends! You other naughty people need to calm down and stop talking about sales bargains as you're making my fingers itch and want to go shopping!!!!! Some fab bargains you've had!! I'm actually off to Trafford Centre tonight to meet friends. They were supposed to be coming to ours, but we were burgled on Sunday so I'm feeling a bit down and don't really want to entertain at home. Being down is surely another reason NOT to go to a shopping centre - but am taking the husband who will be trying his best to avoid all shops and go straight to the restaurant and then home!! Although...bargains...surely I should at least look in Monsoon and Dotty Ps...Virtual Sealed Pot Challenge #148 - £59.93
