The Completely Crazy 2012 Clothes Challenge

Hi again,
fear not, I shall see the challenge through to the end of the year - even if I left my budget & my senses half way through. I just wanted to give you plent fo warning so you can chat amongst yourselves & see if anyone wants to take over & actually, Kerfuffle I was thinking that you'd be ideal to run the challenge next year as you're a long time member :A & possibly far more appropriate a leader than myself :rotfl:
See below :
Yesterday I popped in to town to buy new bedding & having left Debenhams with lovely new duvet cover I then entered a trance like state & the next thing you know I'm leaving H&M with a bag containing 3 tops & my purse is £24 lighter
My cotton t shirt type tops seem to suffer from this bizarre affliction of developing little holes in the abdomen area ? It's weird & very annoying as tops that are in otherwise perfect condition & would last for years are being ruined. I thought it might be moths so have cedarwood blocks all over the wardrobe, but it doesn't seem to have made any difference.
I cannot fathom it & one of my colleague is suffering the same thing & I've noticed that some of my ironing customers have the same issue too, so it's widespread.
What is this bizarre phenomenon
Lula, I have a couple of cotton tops that also suffer the same thing. I am pretty sure it's not insect related (esp as these are tops that i keep in my draw amongst others) In my case I put it down to the wash and wear of cheap material. Not sure if it's compounded by where you hold the garment to pull it down or such?
Me been a bit quiet on here recently but I am still sort-of sticking to the challenge, in that I'm still logging what I buy. I'm sort of at target amount nowdamage depends on whether I keep some of the things I bought last weekend (more I look at what I've bought the more of it is going back).
Thanks for running this challenge, I lurked last year and did it this year more for an interest factor as clothes isn't really my issue.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

Well that's sweet of you, but I'm on a downshifting mission so I wouldn't be impartial. Plus I'm too much of a grump.0 -
Oh dear I seem to have went over my budget
I went into TK Maxx and they had a lovely selection of new knitwear so I ended up with a new jumper for work, a new going out top and a gold and black lace skirt I think I will wear to the work xmas do.
Spent £70 so that brings me to a total of £155 for the year (which isn't that bad really, and a lot less than I normally spend!) breaking my £100 budget.
No more spending for the rest of the year, honest!
Sorry to hear you won't be running the challenge next year lula-hula but we all thank you for your sterling efforts in keeping our spending under control! No more buying unnecessary toiletries 2018

Lost post
In short:- Think have had no spend Sept - haven't checked receipts but can't think of anything bought until Oct. Am shocked :rotfl:
- 3/4-ly total currently £472, but this includes stuff bought for the gym and work. Otherwise total £305. Hoping this will cover winter boots, set of new underwear and maybe another sweater dress, that should be me sorted til the new year.

New trainers bought today, thankfully DM had given my money for my b'day and had some pennies left from PIL too - so covered the £75  in a very :money: way. As I bought my last pair nearly 7yrs ago, and I now wear them 3-4 times a week, figured it wasn't really too bad a spendFeb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

Hello!!
The last time I logged into MSE was 13th May this year - and although, I believe I have tried to 'be more cautious' with my shopping and consider my purchases before I buy them I have got to be honest, I have probably/deffinatly gone over my already far to high budget of £1000
I can't say i have brought too much though - mainly because I have lost 2 and a half stone this summer, so I was trying not to buy stuff because it wouldn't fit after, but this has led me to the problem that now I am down to almost my target weight i need to buy most things again.
It will be a capsule wardrobe though - and I am going to continue with my MSE mantra of really considering every purchase. I am moving in with my fella early next year so I will have new prorities.
But I also became debt free this summer
So - basically - what im saying is - i dont think i will succeed on this challange
Who knos, when I do have bills to pay etc maybe ill have even more self resolve.
But for now -
Good luck to allx

Hello all!
No October spends as such. I did have to buy a pair of bottoms and a top for the gym but that's not my fault - DH decided we were going to join a gym (he's not losing weight as quickly as he hoped) as he wouldn't go on his own and I had absolutely nothing suitable to wear. So, I made him buy me the outfit0 -

It sounds like you have massive self resolve if you've lost all that weight and become debt free at the same time, so CONGRATULATIONS on both of those, and good luck moving in with OH

Well I switched from participator to lurker rather quickly this year... Can I re-define my goal?
I would like to buy no clothes until the end of 2012!
I have just spent £38 in Pr!mark on cotton t-shirts, a new jumper and some plimsoles so am stocked up. I have loads of "going out" stuff that I never wear so that should cover any crimbo bashes. I have a new job (which is excellent) for which I wear attractive green work trousers, company polo shirt and safety boots 80% of the time, so I CANNOT justify buying work clothes any time soon!
Thank you Lula for running the challenge, you have been so welcoming and helpful, especially supporting little-hopers like me! I am tempted to step up to the plate myself but I am aware I am not the most reliable poster...“Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goals.”

Lula, thank you for doing this. I really appreciate it as I'm self-employed and my income took an unexpected sharp dip this year.
Not spending on clothes and appreciating what I have has really helped.
I've lost some weight so passed some clothes on to my DD, who also reminded me of the method of reducing a waistband by putting a dart in - too big trousers now darted and others to follow!
I had a no-spend September and will have a no spend October ... and probably November ... and December ...!Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again...
