Ok. My turn. I'm angry with certain relatives. I spent time chosing and wrapping presents for them only to get an offhand "oh thanks but Christmas is for children" and not even a card. Even worse the gifts I got for their children were taken off them immediately so I didnt even get to enjoy them playing with them. I'd understand if they'd been inappropriate but they werent and the wee ones liked them.
Sick of being made to feel like a second class citizen because we haven't got children. I'm sorry if my health condition means I cant produce babies fast enough.Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0 -

take them at their word - no more pressies for your siblings/in laws.
were the gifts taken off the kids for a reason? time constraints maybe, off visiting etc? theres no way my DD would have time to play with everything she gets on Christmas day, she usually has time to unpack one or 2 pressies from the boxes, and play with them on the day itself.0 -
nope, they were at their grannies house and there werent any other toys around. I do get that they get so much that they dont have time to play with it all, but there was nothing else around and they were playing with ornaments, I'm just annoyed. How hard is it to write a card or say thanks. Even the 2 year old managed a better thank you. Perhaps I'm just oversensitive. We're not childless by choice (part medical part circumstance) so i thought the Christmas is for children comment was a bit insensitive, like we're not supposed to have Christmas or something.Eu não sou uma tartaruga. sorry you've all had horrible people in your lives.....
I'm OK but vile stepson turned up at 10.30 on Christmas day....empty handed, took his gifts ande lft at 11.30, even tho he was supposed to stay for dinner.
after everything his Dad has done for him (yes I know hes his Dad but hes done so much over the last 18 months) you would think a bottle of whisky in a gift bag and a few hours to eat the dinner that was bought and prepared for him wouldn't be too much to ask for???
hey ho, nothing changes.....
hope everyone feels better, I do after getting that out)

I'll just have a little rant.....
Long story short - we invited my Gran for Christmas but she said she wouldn't come unless Aunt and her children could come. I can't stand my Aunt and her brood but after a long conversation with Gran (and well aware of the fact that it could well be her last Christmas) I relented. Cue manic shopping as quiet Christmas for 3 has now turned into Christmas for 7. I managed to get everything done by Thursday (including increasing the size of the turkey on order) and settled back to await the arrival of the family on Christmas Eve.
Friday afternoon the phone rang, it was Gran. Aunt and child 2 would no longer be coming to us for Christmas!!!! Gran and child 1 would still come (child 1 already at Gran's house) but Aunt and child 2 would be staying down south.
So Gran and child 1 arrive on Christmas Eve and her very first comment.........The house is a bit messy!!!! I spent all day Friday cleaning the house!!!!!!! This was the first in a relentless stream of typical old lady thoughtless comments including "that dress makes you look a bit fat darling" and a tyrade on Aunts Ex husband during Christmas dinner which reduced Child 1 to tears (my dinner was stone cold by the time I got that one sorted). Anyway, they went home yesterday and I am left with the remains of a 13lb turkey as well as all the extra food that was needed when I thought I was feeding 7.

I can bring dips and loads of nibbles.
Like you, we thought certain family were coming but they decided not to so it was just us and son who came to stay for a couple of days.
OH was pretty gutted, he felt a bit let down. I on the other hand wasn't really bothered, hence my lack or ranting about it.
However, I'd bought for everyone that was supposed to be coming so I still have a cupboard full of 'stuff'.
I love food and drink but even I'm getting sick of it all now.Herman - MP for all!0 -

Can I bring the chocolate?
I have stashes of the stuff and I know where it's all going to end up!"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
Blimey, makes me feel glad. I was going to rant but I think I shall just count my blessings that things could be worse!
On the pressie front I find men need to be managed. Dad doesn't buy anyone presents and in the days when my sister had young children I used to have to make sure that he got the presents but they are now old enough to know that it isn't that Grampa doesn't care but he's just a bit rubbish.Piglet

Ive realised Im quite lucky with my family compared to some of yours! Christmas day was lovely with some of my family and OH's family. We had a lovely meal and great fun. All the adults cooked and cleared up and everyone was happy.
However, Im not being smug! Boxing day was a different story. We always go to SIL's house for turkey, chips etc. This is usually fun too but this year some other relatives turned up (SIL's two sisters and their spouses). They were a bit sarcastic about not being invited (there's a reason for that! Lol) and they just sat there eating and drinking and my poor SIL didn't get a thing to eat because she was rushing around, doing the cooking etc and by the time they had finished, they had scoffed the lot and there was no turkey left! I helped as much as I could and helped with the washing up etc but no help from them! At one point one of them asked if SIL wanted a piece of cake and said they would cut her a piece. The only knife on the table had been used to cut something else so instead of getting up off her backside to get another one, handed it to me and said "wash that will you" I was seething but kept quiet!
So not quite as bad as some of your stories but still annoying. The thing I get from all your stories is that most of you are just running around trying to keep everyone else happy (just like my SIL on boxing day). Its a pity these awful people can't be rounded up to spend Christmas with each other and leave the rest of us to enjoy Christmas! My advice is to plan ahead for next Christmas, decide which relatives you like and which you don't and make sure you only spend Christmas with the former. There are relatives that I absolutely can't stand and there is no way I would have them at my house or be persuaded to go to theirs. Id be very annoyed though if they just turned up univited! The worst people are the ones who turn up, do nothing to help and then just criticise everything you are doing!:mad:0
