Hi all, I am new to this forum, I went into my local boots this morning (the Fort, Glasgow). I asked the sales assistant when their 75% sale would be. She said loads of people have been asking and that all the staff do not know and that their might not be 75% off this year. When I paid for my items, I also asked the man at the till (he went ballistic). He said that their definitely would not be a further sale and that all "this crap"(his words) had came from the online site Moneysavingexpert.com. I actually thought this was quite funny, he was not amused(lol). I think personally there will be a further sale as everyone was so cagey. I will keep you all informed if there is one, there is still loads of stock in this store, by the way xxx:beer::j:j:rotfl:

I can understand the staff get a bit fed up with people constantly asking them but this chap definately didn't have any customer skills if thats the way he talks to people. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Been to my local boots today and all christmas stock has been removed and sun cream put into its place.

being one of those people that got excited and was looking forward to the possibility of 75% off starting yesterday, i rang the small liverpool store (even though i live in manchester!) that opened at 7, SA said it was the branch at a train station (so very small), to try and confirm the sale. the SA was very kind and polite and said she would have scanned an item to check for me but all the stores xmas stock had been transferred to another larger store in liverpool the day before to make way for new lines.
just a theory but maybe smaller stores that no longer have the xmas sale has just transferred any remaining xmas stock to a larger store. this was a common practice when i was a manger at clinton cards. stockports stock would be transferred to cheadle with double the display space, cheadle was able to put out new lines aswell as keep out sale stock because its bigger!

again this is just a theory form my experience of working in retail :)

I agree with you. I've been 3 years running and I'm always surprised at how quiet it is. Just like an ordinary shopping day. Never managed to get there before 9.30 though - maybe I miss the stampede. No indignity involved at all...:D

i've managed to be at the Boots 75% sale within the first half hour of the shop opening for the past 3 years (this is a big store in the city centre). first year it was very civilised, I don't think a lot of folk knew it was on. 2nd year it was definitely busier, but you could still get to the shelves. last year omg! within 20 minutes of the store being open there were couples with 2 or 3 laundry bags - one was guarding the bags while the other was literally chucking shelves-full of items into them ! not everyone was like that, and not every store either. I visited 2 other stores (one city centre, one outlying) straight afterwards and they were both far more civilised. Here you do have to get there early on the first day if there is something in particular you want (especially if its a popular item).

i think u will find that with staff discount on top of the 50% off we boots staff get it for nearly 75% off anyway

why do people assume just cos we work for boots we know everything actually they dont tell us about the sale until the VERY LAST minute so we know about as much as you. we dont want to keep the stuff to our selves we are not allowed to put stock to one side for us, as the comment above says we get nearly 75% with discount on the 50% products anyway and we CANNOT use discount on the 75% stuff.

Is it coz there's less for THEM to grab , don't they WANT to clear the old stock which is what a clearance sale is about - LOADS of other shops have their last 'clear it all' 75% off sale on at the moment and they aren't mysterious , cagey or rude about it at all - Its a SALE not a private party in a secret hush hush location or something! lol

At least without your prickly spines in the way on 75% off day, it is less likely that anyone will end up in A&E. ;)

Maybe people ENJOY the anticipation of a big sale. Maybe some people can't afford the items whilst they are 50% off. Either way it isn't really your place to judge them. :)

I did Bluewater last year. I got there about five minutes after it had opened and already people had two trolleys full. Think it gets worse every year, as more people become aware of it. Sainsburys toy sale this year was manic. Think it depends on the store. I stopped doing the Next Sale at Bluewater as it was mad, our local store is more civilised.

I have just got back from my local Boots. Puchased some toilettries from the downstairs checkout then went upstairs to puchase some baby products. I was served twice and never asked the SA when the 75% off sale will be. You know why? Because we know just as much as they do.

The sale stock has been moved and looks a lot less than when I was last there 4 days ago even though hardly anyone buying every time I have been (possibly moved sale stock to the stock room or moved to the bigger store). Quite a few trolley/Cages were out but don't know what was inside (maybe suncream) as I did notice a whole aisle was cleared and new tickets on to put out the sun cream.

Last year I waited and waited and really enjoyed getting my bargains at 75% off. Unfortunately I enjoyed it a little too long and got a lovely parking fine on my return to the car. So much for my bargains :rotfl: It did make me laugh at the time, what a plonker.

Wow - that means your staff discount is nearly 50%, I think I should try to get a Saturday job at Boots!

If I remember correctly, Boots staff discount is 22.5% on Boots own brand (ie No7) and 12.5% off everything else. So with the 50% current discount, staff can purchase a lot of products at 72.5% off.
