Well done Crunchy - greeat loss for week 1!! I dont wanna jump on the scale yet as TOTM is coming up and I know i will be heavier than normal so gonna wait til its over!
Saved £30 on home insurance and hopefully £45 cashback when it tracks so that will go to the pot. Have also switched it so it comes out of DHs account rather than mine, as I have slowly been paying more bills than him over the last year!
Had to pay out £300 yesterday (ouch!!) for DS France school trip instalment (already in france savings account) and £250 for all 3 kids for after school club for 3 months (3 x 3 months fees, registration and books). Swapped them from their previous classes as they were £315 for 3 months....so a saving of £65.
Getting there slowly...!0 -
Free Listing Weekend for stuff over 99p this weekend on eBay - come on challengers - we can shift that junk and that weight. Chaos is subsiding (have a feeling I will regret writing those words) and so normal service and statistics should be back on track by tomorrow morning.2011: 301k in debt and morbidly obese (DFW)

so this is the second week for me and ive lost um nothing..........but im still hoovering up booze and goodies that are in the house and ive got a stinking cold so cant really exercise hard, so weight still 11st 13 money wise normal £50 savings have been added to the account so it's standing at £92.90.
I must try harder-v impressed with crunchy nutters enthusiasm-can you send some this way please??0 -
Hmmm, no treadmill workout today and no inclination to do it either
. I'll try to force myself before dinner. I can't let this be the start of the slippery slope so soon into the challenge. The diet itself is still going well though
On the £2k front I've just cancelled my roadside assistance membership. I've paid it for 5 years and never called them out. They wanted a massive £169.78 to renew. I refused both the offers they gave me today (the lowest being £59 for the same cover!!!). I'm going to add this saving to my total. I'm happy to cancel as I've already found combined car insurance and roadside cover for less than the price of my current car insurance. I just hope my car doesn't break down in the next 8 weeks!!
you could always get the cheap roadside AA cover thru Quidco, which ends up at about £7 or similar.
how much is your insurance quote without the roadside cover? Autoaid (recommended on here by Martin) is less than £40 a year for full cover.0 -

Bit off-thread but related to the above - does anyone know whether Santander are rubbish with overdrafts? I could get £200 for switching but it will take me a few months get out of the overdraft so not sure if it would be a good move or not!

re. santander - do you have a large overdraft facility, even if you don't use it? They will match your existing one - i have a 7k one and there is just a £10 charge a month (no interest), which is a pretty cheap form of borrowing.0 -
Well weighed in lost grand total of 1.5lbs so back in the game. Very disappointing when had the lurg all week, still dog has been sent round to dads so haven't been walking makes a difference I suppose. When I can cough without wretching she will be back probably needing to join the weight loss challenge too! 91p rounded up to save the change in my bank account, sent two of my big ds's to Mcds for us all the other night as felt so carp, eeek just seen it enter my bank account, £34.09! It doesn't do to live in a house of 5 kids, 4 of them over 6ft and a dh who thinks he has to eat more than them cos he's older. I will again be looking at ways to reduce my grocery spending, sent said two boys food shopping yesterday too, they actually managed better than my dh. He is a lost cause, so extravagant, but they being students did actually stick to the list. New Years resolution must not send dh shopping.Total weight lost 6.5/73lbs starting yet again. Afds August 10/15. /8 Sept.0

OK if you don't mind not being able to see current balance, not being able to do instant transfers (to save yourself from charges) and your card being refused without them being able to explain why! I am maintaining a pound balance in a savings account for the forseeable future just to annoy them. CS is truely apalling - and I am generally reasonable, calm, in credit and pay things on time.
I would pay £200 not to bank with them
Oh no! I went ahead and opened before I had chance to read on here. Thinking I will keep my account also and come up with a plan to try and avoid using this new account for anything other than bills!
Will hopefully mean I can put £200 towards this challenge tho - in 14 weeks
Firesidemaid - my overdraft is currently £2250 which I have told Santander - like you said no plans to use all that but hopefully they will match! I checked the MSE guide and it looks as if arranged overdraft will have no charges at all for the first 12 months which is what made me make the decision. Time will tell if it was the right one!

Just realised I went cinema last night - student discount and bringing a drink from home, I reckon I saved myself £5 - will add to my sig! Yeay I'm off the starting blocks!0 -
Just weighed in. Technically it isn't my weigh in day until Monday, but the wii was out, so temptation got the better of me and I did a body test.
Anyway, I have lost 7lbs! How is that even possible in 5 days??? Anyway - oh pahhh who am I to question The Great Wii. Delighted. Back to my pre Christmas weight.
Got the big now. To the extent that my 18 yr old daughter has joined me in the weightloss challenge. No point asking her to save £2k - as it would only mean me having to double my commitment to £4k.....
I'll report back very soon - good luck everyone x0 -
Hey Everyone,
Some great starts to the challenge
Well I woke up 2lbs lighter yesterday (typical, the day AFTER weigh in!), have kept it off today, but not declaring anything until next weigh in.
I've transferred the £100 to my account from the other day, and have some more money to transferI've been checking through any old accounts and found £98.10 in my old Credit Union account. Collected a cheque yesterday and cashed it at the Post Office. I can't add it to the challenge yet as I've not been able to get to the bank (and I've been dipping into the cash to pay for gas and electric
), but will work out my finances next week and will transfer whatever I can afford - aiming for at least £80, possibly £100.
I'm loving reading everyone's posts - very motivational :T I'm around pretty much everyday but don't always post, especially if I haven't got anything useful to say, lol.0
