We have a Panasonic, it was included in the Which Best Buys table, it's fab; I couldn't believe how much it picked up the first few times we used it; our old vacuum was obviously rubbish. It cost around £110, I'll come back with a model number later

    ETA: Its a MC-UL594
it can be bought for £129 from Amazon but you might be able to shop around and get it a bit cheaper

i have always had an upright cleaner is a cylinder as in a henry back breaking pleas

Henry has wheels that go in all directions so you just pull him along with the hose, which is very long in its own right. I find him very easy to move about.

I also have a Sebo & chose this as it was a Which Best Buy. I've got the old Sebo X2 & its still going strong & never had a problem. I also however do have a Henry for building jobs. Henry is abused & picks up anything, but is very heavy I find to move around, particularly upstairs.

We just bought a miele and it's absolutely fantastic! Would never have anything else now, the suction is amazing and it's so tiny it just scoots around the house with no effort!

I love our Oreck XL. Had it 6 years and works like new, even with a dog that likes to shed his coat 24/7/365 ! and Oreck is light as anything, but bags cost a bomb.

However I have friends who swear by their Sebo's, have to say had a go and do like them.

Oh! I've had various "other" vaccuum cleaners over the years but finally gave in and bought a Dyson in the summer and am absolutely delighted! We call him Dobby because he's the House Elf and does everything we ask of him. Never had a hoover with so much CONTINUOUS suction and would now say that all others are inferior.
Surely your Dysons should last longer than a year? Don't they have a 5 year guarantee or something? Maybe e-mail their customer services and see if they can offer a solution???

Either your flexible hose or nozzle is blocked or the filters need replacing & or washing.
Ring Dyson for advice.............there is certainly no need to buy a new vacuum.............
  • i have tried to take it sort of apart and the problem seems to be with the extendable hose when the machine is locked to use upright or machine switched off the hose is lose and flexible but as soon as you try to use the hose part it wont extend and when you try to extend it the machine tips over and you cant use it cause it wont extend. it seems as if the suction is so intent that the hose wont pull out unless you want the machine falling over this has only just started happening.

We also need a new vaccuum cleaner
No HEPA filter though - our electrolux hepa filter continually gets blocked and stops the machine from sucking
What (sub) £150 machines are recommended ?
    Upright preferred.....
