I did it! Now a member of a gym for the first time ever. Gym induction at 9.30 tomorrow morning:eek: followed by a pilates class. I must be mad. Not the pace of introduction I would advise to others, but I am reasonably(ish) fit as play a lot of tennis already so although I will be absolutely cream-crackered I shouldn't injure myself with too much too soon

So over to you Watty! Hope you have fun at your class:D

You are a star Cat :j Good for you! Sadly work intervened and i didn't make my class - but - I learned - if I want to go to a class at 6pm do not schedule meetings after 2 pm :rotfl:Didnt finish work till 6.30 and could have gone to a later class but by then i was exhausted so flopped on sofa listing stuff on ebay which sort of counts as fabbing as I am clearing clutter.
I WILL go to class next week!

Question: My lips are really dry and cracked and sore. Any tips or ideas? I tried using a vitamin E lip salve stick from the body shop that I found in the bathroom but I threw that away as I was sure it was making them worse.
Anyone any ideas of what might work? Preferably something I just might have lying around the house as my aim wasn't to buy anything till the bathroom cupboard was empty of products for this and that ... but ..I could relent!

well done on getting an interview!

completely depends on the company but if you are in any doubt whatsoever a skirt/trouser suit with a smart white/black shirt/blouse with clean sensible shoes. think smart, clean and conservative. nobody ever didn't get a job for being too smart at interview.

look on the net and have some answers prepared for questions they may ask you. there will be ones that are job/career specific but most throw in general ones like:
    • why do you want this job?
    • why do you want to work for us?
    • what do you know about us?
    • give us an example of a time you worked as part of a team/lead a group of people in a task. what happened and what did you personally do?
    • what is your greatest weakness? (and no, it is not "perfectionist" "never late" etc - they see right through you trying to turn a negative into a positive)

go over exactly what you said in your application too, they will have it in front of them and it will be the basis for all the questions.

i applied for a job at the DWP, I've got an email asking me where I'd be prepared to work so I'm assuming I've got through the application form stage and done well on the crazy online tests i had to do.

Do you have any Vaseline? You could either wear this on your lips or mix some up with a little bit of lipstick in a small tub to make a lightly coloured lipbalm.

Sudocrem if you have any lying about for sore lips, good for healing although not to be seen in public!
Carmex is the best commercial one for me - the one in the bright yellow tube.

Rummer, I have a huge issue with emotional eating too. Someone reccommened Geneen Roth - she has a book called 'When you eat at the refirgerator, pull up a chair; how to feel thin, gorgous and happy whe you feel anything but' which is quite good. It certainly has not cured my emotional eating but is useful to dip into. You have also mentioned that you have booked into a dance class. i have been wanting to do this for years but have always been wiating until I lost wieght so i wouldn't feel so ridiculous at the class. Well,I am now even heavier but I think I am going to give it a try. With 8 stone to lose i want to find a fun way of losing weight.

Thank you! I will certainly look at that book :D.

As for the dancing, I would highly recommend that you just go for it! I am clearly the plumpest person in the room and I have no natural talent whatsoever but I have loved every minute of it. Just as you have said I had waited for years saying to myself when I get slimmer I will go and I finally realised that I may never get slimmer and I have to live my life to the full as I am now!

Thank you for the kind and supportive comments. I got myself into a terrible tizzy yesterday however I have taken some time to think things through and I feel better about things.

Not much fabbing here as the heating is broken :( and I am hidden under so many layers of clothing that there is no part of me free to fab :rotfl:. I have however kept up with the skin care regime and in my mind that is the min I will achieve each day!

Re clothes - the secret is smart, neat and tidy. An interview is not the time for fashion statements. It's all about looking businesslike and employable.

A suit if you've got one or just a nice skirt and jacket or smart cardi if you haven't. A nice dress/jacket or cardi combo would look good.

Polished shoes, neutral or pale coloured nail varnish - sorry no obvious fashion colours. Hide any piercings or tattoos, again sorry but most employers are just not impressed. Jewellery should be discreet, no huge dangly earrings or jangly bracelets. No bare legs (certainly not in this weather). :rotfl: Opaque tights are fine.

Hair should be neat and tidy, a little make up, a nice light perfume - nothing too cloying or overpowering.

Now for the really important bit - Perfect Posture - stand proud and tall - you are worth employing. Look confident and smile.

Remember you are the best thing since sliced bread and they would be fools to pass you by.:rotfl::rotfl: Confidence is everything.

Finally prepare, prepare, prepare. Find out as much as you can about the company, have some questions ready - so that when they ask you "Any Questions" you can answer intelligently.

Even the most confident person can get struck dumb so it's best to have something ready prepared just in case your mind goes a blank. No - not how long are the tea breaks and lunch breaks:rotfl:

Remember to ask for the job!!! Not directly but when you leave tell them it was very nice meeting you, that you are very interested in the job and would love to work for them.

It's sounds so obvious but you'd be surprised at how many people fail to show any real enthusiasm. If you tell them you want the job then they can be in no doubt.:rotfl::rotfl:

Good luck, will be thinking of you. When will you know when your interview is.

Funnily enough I've just done my CV and a letter to give to DS2 to take to the garden centre tomorrow. Apparently they are now recruiting for someone to work in the plant section. I would love to do that. Fancy getting paid to do some gardening - how cool would that be.

Maman - I will have more details about the course soon. I think it's called "Millionaire Boot-camp".

Apparently it's being run by an Australian hot shot. Should be "Bonza, mate":rotfl: I should imagine it will be mainly sales training and motivational stuff.

I used to go to loads when I was "Corporate Woman" - they sound awful but actually I usually find them to be quite good fun - as long as they are not too "Happy Clappy" then I just feel like cringing.:D

I always enjoy a good motivational speaker though and unlike many of my colleagues who deeply resented going to seminars I usually found something to inspire me. My view was always if I only learn one new thing then it's been worth it.

    And it's free..............

Anyway off to watch "Mad Dogs" - it's a scream. A really dark black comedy - Phillip Glennister, John Sims, Marc Warren - so plenty of eye candy too.

    G'night all x

good luck willow! as it's working with food (sort of anyway) i would wear no nail varnish, no jewellery except one set of stud earrings maybe and wear your hair in an up style. It'll give the impression that you're suited for the environment and you'll look more like their current staff (well at other branches seeing as this is new). Like everyone is saying, dress smart and neat, I know you love dresses, make sure it's a nice tailored one that's not too short. Also check the company website to see if there's any info you can pick up like if they have any special seasonal drinks out or some celeb endorsments. Being familiar with the company really helps. When I was 17 I got a job purely because I said that I loved the range of shoes the *rubbish girlband* had designed for them, yes this was a downright lie as I'm not big on glittery tartan stillettos but it worked!

allie23 what's the book about? i'd like to buy some motivational health/diet/lifestyle books. The only book like that i've ever enjoyed is Skinny B!tch, it's just hilarious and the tone is all "that spare tire aint' gonna lose itself so step away from the donuts and do some press ups!" also the authors are a model and celeb nutrionist so you know it works.
