Well ladies guess what I did today.
Bought myself a Senior Citizen's Railcard :rotfl::rotfl: and then booked tickets to London. Will be going the weekend 27th-30th Woohoo!! - going on a business conference. Will tell you more when I've been.
Time for my first mini adventure;).
Other than that, not much else today - did some more SS paperwork - nearly at the end of the current batch now, trip to Costco, called in to see my friends at Scope. Hoping to start there again maybe next month.
Managed a short walk to the post box but my back was killing me - it was sooooo cold I could feel my body tensing up which just makes the pain worse.
Like everyone else my skin is so dry (love the desiccated - great word Tete - a big warm welcome by the way.
As you've all pointed out it's that lethal combination of cold winds and central heating. Lots and lots of gentle moisturiser. For those of you who are finding that your normal creams are stinging I suggest olive oil or similar for just round the house. A bit greasy and not really suitable for under makeup, but it does soothe and replenish lost skin oils. I use grape seed oil, there's no smell at all, olive oil does have a distinctive aroma.
Another tip that may help is don't go too low on the fats in your diet - your skin needs some oils to help "lock-in" moisture.
An Evening Primrose Oil supplement works wonders but it does take two to three months to work it's magic.
I too am feeling rather bloated, my own fault - can't seem to stay off the carbs at the moment. Agree peppermint tea and peppermint oil capsules do help.
Still not much exercise - still nursing my back. Physio tomorrow, just hoping it helps a little. It's a bit of a vicious circle at the moment, can't face exercise because of the back pain, the back pain is aggravated by not doing my exercises.
evilsquid - sorry to hear about your skin reaction, must be so sore - I suppose the best thing is gently does it. Use products you know and trust and let your skin rebalance itself again.
Rummer - sorry to hear you had such a bad day with someone upsetting you so much. Hope you have a good sleep and feel better about things tomorrow.
Emotional Eating - I'm afraid I don't have any easy answers to that one.
I don't eat for emotional reasons but I do find that when I'm very stressed I seem unable to resist carbs. If I can eat healthily - for me healthily means very little wheat and then I'm ok. The minute I start eating grains and cereals, bread or pasta then I'm done for and it becomes a vicious circle which is the very devil to break - just like the back problems. In fact I think they are connected. I always have stomach problems and bloating when my back is bad. Why that should be I've no idea but it does seem to follow a pattern.
I think with emotional eating the real key is not to concentrate on the eating pattern as such but to try and find out what the triggers are. Keeping a food and mood diary might help. Could it be linked to your menstrual cycle.
Anyway - my bed-time now. I am trying to make sure I get to bed before midnight - not always very successfully. :rotfl:
G'night all x0 -
I had an operation on my back nearly 3 months ago and was off work for 3 months before that, so I've lived in pyjamas. I've only just started being able to go out shopping and catching the end of the sales has been wonderful. I'm only allowed to carry 1kg in each hand then realised 'oh wait I'm actually carrying quite a lot' so ended up buying a reduced suitcase in Primark today to wheel everything along! :rotfl:
I'm not well enough to go out drinking with mates so dressing up isn't an option, but I can go out for a meal with my bf and glam up a bit. He's been wonderful at helping me through this, every step of the wayhe's seen me at my worst, in HDU with tubes everywhere, and now he's seeing me getting back to my best. :kisses2:
It's so nice to start to feel normal again (and to buy a new wardrobe!)
I can't quite get to the gym yet, but physio is knackering enough when I really go for it!
I'm trying to lose weight (gained from being sedentary for so long) and recently bought a groupon for some diet shakes which I'm waiting to arrive, along with some appetite suppressant pills which are meant to form jelly in your stomach for hours when taken with a lot of water, making you feel full. I know it's not sensible in the long run but I'm doing this silly diet for 2 week to kick-start my weight loss.0 -
Morning everyone, hope all is well today!
Not sure what's wrong with me lately, this last week I've felt exhausted and not wanting to do anything. Only fabbing I've managed is the new skin are routine, vitamins and hand cream before bed. Wang to start exercise but I get home about 6 and by 6.30 I want to go to sleep!
Looking forward to my weekend off, no plans so I'm going to relax!
Have a good day!0 -
morning all.
I'm also suffering from dry skin - mixture of the weather, rosacea so it's dry/sensitive anyway, and having the cold. It always give me dry skin around my nose and cheeks, constant blowing I suppose!
I use soya oil at night, or grapeseed oil, when it's really bad which helps things along.
I went to the hospital yesterday for my colposcopy (sp?) and they told me that there are cell changes, they are bad but apparently not bad enough for treatment and I've to go back in April. I'm not sure whether to be relieved it's not 'too' bad, cross they aren't doing anything, or worried it'll get worse. The cell changes got considerably worse between my last two smear tests (last April and October) which I would have thought was cause for concern but the doctor was very blas! about it.carpe diem

bratz81 just to say thinking of you, try not to worry.
lessonlearned well done you am sure you'l have great fun using your railcard
Rummer sorry about your upsetting day but have a pat on the back for standing up to them, On the emotional eating wish I knew the answer to that one this is my downfall. Just try and move on, today is another day
A sad week here another death among my elderly relatives, and a animal death at home. Our Guinea pig passed away during the night. Very upset kids here today, not sure if we'll get any more - they are gorgeous but its upsetting when we lose them.
Am trying to keep up the fabbing - attempted to lighten up my hair but it didn't work so will just have to wait for the very dark bits to grow out.

Morning! :hello:
(((Hugs))) to Rummer, bratz81 and lizzie157. xxx
My D for the day is deep breaths which help when I'm feeling anxious, especially when I've put some lavender oil on my pulse points.
Not much fabbing by my this morning. I am wearing a nice outfit, but that's about it. Must try harder!
Hope everyone has a good day. x0 -
Morning all,
Lizzie - sorry you're having a sad week, always upsetting when you lose a pet - can't stand people who are dismissive of it. There's a really sweet poem that gets posted a lot on the pets forum about 'Rainbow Bridge' - might be helpful for the kids?
Bratz - hope you're ok hun, little worrying they are doing anything until April but am sure that must mean they don't think it's anything serious?
Savvy - was like that all last week but relaxing weekend has helped I think so am sure you will be raring to go next week
LL - yay on booking tickets :j your adventures are starting! Am curious about the business conference as well, will definately have to tell us more later. Hope the back's a little better today.
Bitsy - wow, very organised looking at spring/summer clothes! I'm still struggling with sorting my winter wardrobe - I'll probably just get it sorted as we come into JulyMust admit am not good with the capsule wardrobe either, I like the tunic tops as well though so agree might need either some cardis/shrugs or light long sleeved tops for underneath when it's a bit chillier.
Rummer - hope you're feeling better hun, and well done you for standing up for yourself, some people are just bullies and am sure they will think twice about saying anything nasty to you next time.
Am running out of time now so well done Watty and cat for gym and yoga - very impressed you both made itJoan, loving your 'do something different' might have to have a think about borrowing that! evilsquid - hope your breakout has gone down a little today, how annoying! It's a little worrying sometimes to think about all the chemicals in the products we use
Also welcome to more new people :j - wow we're going to be an army soon! LL will have to give us our plan to take over the world :rotfl:
Anyways, haven't been on for a few days, have been manically busy. Year end accounts to get in at work and have been out the last few nights - had a mystery shop for a meal out on Monday night, OH was busy so asked a friend hadn't seen since before xmas and we had a bit of a catch up. At choir last night, was fun but the 3 hour sessions are definately harder work, can really feel it on the way home. Am supposed to be at film group on Thursday (and really should go as haven't been since before xmas) and think OH has friends round on Friday so might have to have a quiet night tonight. Have been a little naughty and not worn either of my new dresses yet - my excuse was that it was freezing so needed more layers and also it was quite slippy out the boots I would need to wear with them have no grip
Have decided I need to get myself in gear with the money making so am starting the matched betting again and have a few items listed on ebay - don't have a great deal to put on there tbh, I think maybe I need to try and look for a niche on there (obviously easier said then done!).0 -
Mawnin' all
Rummer I hope you're feeling a bit better today - knocks your equilibrium off when someone's unpleasant, doesn't it?
Fatballs my best wishes for a continued good recovery from your operation
Bratz if you're not happy, get back to them; nag them til they explain exactly why they're not going to do anything as yet; and try (I know, not easy) not to worry. When I wasn't happy with what my rheumatologist did, I wrote her a letter - she didn't like it (I could tell!!), but it worked, and I got my Plaquenil back. You could always write to the Consultant.
Lizzie I'm so sorry to hear of your losses. You're right, it's awful when animals toddle off to the Summerlands; I have the best of both worlds with doing dog-sitting, as when they leave, it's just to go back to their owners.
I actually managed to put some steroid cream (prescribed) on my feet last night; I've not been doing it while Dilly was staying, as I don't wear footwear indoors, and I didn't want her getting in contact with it. Just one application has helped, so I must make myself keep up with it (at least til the next canine guest).
I've decided I'm not going to stress about the pounds I've put on; one of the "common" side-effects with those ill-fated anti-d's is weight gain; by next Monday I won't be taking any of them any more, I'll be back fully on Moclobemide, so I can focus on losing it again after that. Be good if I don't gain any more in the meantime, though. Unfortunately, I can't see where I can cut out any food - I eat very little as it is.
Typical day:
Early morning: 1 cup black coffee, OR coffee with just a smidge of milk; no sugar. (Brought to me by Mr LW) We use coffee beans, not the instant stuff.
Brekkie: Small wine glass fruit juice, plus small bowl bran flakes, a little milk (semi-skimmed). At weekends and when Mr LW is working from home, I usually skip the cereal.
During morning: 1 glass Red Bull substitute (ie the Tesco or Morries version)
Lunch: 1 slice HM bread with a Quorn slice and cucumber, NO butter; then either a very small piece HM cake (eg carrot'n'orange) OR 1 HM biscuit OR an apple OR a banana. Sometimes I don't bother with any cake, biscuit or fruit at all.
During day: 4 cups black coffee (I'm pouring it myself, so don't bother with milk)
Dins: 1 small helping of a home-cooked dish; last night was veggie Shepherd Spy; tonight will be mushroom risotto, to give an idea of the sort of thing.
Dessert: small portion of some sort of HM fruit dessert, eg apple crumble. NO custard or other topping. We don't always have dessert, if the main meal was a filling one, such as veggie stew.
During evening: 2 or 3 cups tea, with lemon not milk, and NO sugar.
I don't bother with snacks or supper.
So I don't really see where I can cut back.:(If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
I must admit I don't wear petticoats very often. I have kept all my petticoats of various lengths so I'll try one. It'll be another layer!!
I hadn't thought of it like that! Must look into getting one then (I'm very electric somehow and have real issues with a lot of my clothes, esp in the winter with tights). I'm guessing M&S might be the best place, any ideas anyone? Mrs Tree you mentioned you have one?
Glad I'm not the only one suffering with the dry skin - I'll certainly give the olive oil a try tonight, I can imagine it absorbs into the skin better than the likes of Vaseline or Elizabeth Arden (and it's cheaper!). Thanks also about the tip for Evening Primose Oil LL - as I said I have a few skin conditions so it doesn't bother me if it takes a while to work, just as long as it does something in the end - fingers crossed!
D for the day, hmmmm.... at the risk of sounding like a sportswear brand: DO IT. Last thing I'll feel like doing after work will be a five mile run in the dark, cold and wet but I know that I'll feel good afterwards, so whatever little thing you're putting off - DO IT and you'll feel so much better! (Just realised this may sound a little ... rude ... but hey THAT releases all kinds of endorphins too so take it to mean whatever you want!)
Lily, well done on the weightloss - that's fantastic!
Hugs to Lizzie and Bratz - hope you're OK.
PodPerson - I'm half thinking about MB as part of the £2012 in 2012 challenge. Is it really hard to get your head around?Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
thanks everyone for the good wishes and hugs.
LameWolf - I hadn't thought of writing to them, that's not a bad idea, thank you!
podperson - I guess it means it's not 'that' serious, but how serious is serious if you know what I mean? It's the fact they said it's bad but not bad enough...well how bad does it have to be? I'm concerned it might be get a lot worse quickly resulting in more treatment, which could have been prevented if they did something now, if you get me.carpe diem
