i went to the gym today, did a small run, a small row and a circuit. started to do weights but only got through one set before i realised that EVERY single male in there (weights are on a separate floor) was giving me a look somewhere in between "BOOBS!" and "a girl dares use MY, MENS ONLY weights!" so i left pretty sharpish!0

D if for Delightful - as we all are and we aiming to consider ourself even more delightful too
Decided against going for a run tonight as was very damp and freezing cold. Looks like it should be warmer tomorrow so will go then. Once my tea settles down I'll give the zumba DVD a go for 30mins to at least do some exercise and burn off some kcals as have gone over today quite a bit.
Fabwise - will be usual skincare routine and my hair had an overnight treatment on last night and will have another mid-week mask.final unsecured debt to repay currently £8333Proud to be Dealing With my DebtDFW Nerd 1154 Long Haul 1550 -
Diet
No not a deprivation diet but an acknowledgement that our bodies and minds need to be given healthy nutritious foods in order for us to feel good. Treats are also essential but in moderation
Decor
Making the most of your home environment can also help you feel fabulous, even if you just have some flowers in a vase it can lift your mood and if you feel fabulous you are more than half way to looking fabulous.
I am shattered, been to dance class and it was such great fun, just heading off to the bath to relax.........
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Oh dear I was going to do some Yoga but decided to sit and scoff some digestive biccies on the sofa instead
Tomorrow is another day.....I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Just dropping by quickly before bedtime. Enjoyed reading posts with all the D words so far.
I was up and out early this morning but made myself find time for make-up, perfume etc. Chose my outfit (lots of layers!!) last night to save myself time.
Treated myself to this:
today. It's Cath Kidston, 100% wool. Not cheap even in the sale but it's lovely and soft and more of a pashmina (I think they call it a shawl) than a scarf. I'm sure I'll get lots of wear out of it.
Glad the wedding went well Callisto and I'd like to add my voice to the unanimous view that you are definitely NOT over-reacting. It's sad that your MIL is lonely but hopefully, in time, she'll find ways of keeping busy that don't involve excessive intrusion into your life. I was amazed at the idea of sharing a hotel room. It just seems so inappropriate. You do need to talk it through with your OH when the moment's right.
Sorry to hear you were let down (again!) by SS. Inefficiency and poor customer service is definitely one of my pet hates. Because of this I always try to pass compliments when I get good service.
Sorry to hear you're cold adela and you too bratz. It has been a gloriously sunny day here but very chilly compared with recent weeks. I think you could both be forgiven for sacrificing a bit of style for warmth!

My "fraggle-skin" fleece got lots of (positive) comments yesterday. It does make me look like a Muppet (literally) but its super warm, and cuddly0

It's really not like that, most of them were probably impressed to see a woman finally ditch the endless cardio for a while!
Whenever we feel self-conscious we think everyone is looking at us when in reality they're not. Does anyone here walk around the gym judging others? Nope, so why would anyone else? If anything, I think the only "looks" going round the gym are those of admiration! I suppose there are a tiny minority who might have something nasty to say, but they're not the kind of people whose opinions matter.
Don't get intimidated by drop dead gorgeous gym bunnies, get inspired
Morning fabbers! I'm still channeling my inner chav in revision friendly tracksuits but yesterday I bought some laaavely classic knitwear from Lyle & Scott for ~70% off thanks to a thread in Grabbit. They do wonderful quality beautifully cut stuff, thoroughly recommend having a mooch around if you've got money to burn.
I've quaffed down a pint of grapefruit and greens juice in the last two hours and gave myself a mini facial so feeling quite good!Living cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -
Me too! Am dithering about my decision to join the gym tomorrow. Mostly because I don't feel 'worth' the money each month (and a bit [STRIKE]shy[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]embarrased[/STRIKE] terrified about the initial assessment thingy:eek:)
Lets make a pact and report back tomorrow
Oh lord .... my heart sank Cat... I'll have to do it now :rotfl:So, I have meatballs and tomato sauce out of the freezer, I'll have an early meal and off to yoga it is! Have found an old yoga mat under the stairs and a blanket...and I'm there. Now don't you let me down now:DMade it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!0 -
Good Morning Ladies and welcome back Philsmum - don't worry about going awol for a while - you're back now.
Lovely day here - and yesterday - no gardening yesterday - the frost was too hard and didn't really melt to allow me the cut the grass.
Probably best not to anyway because my back is still not too good and I'm still trying to nurse it along. Physio tomorrow.
Some great "D" words there ladies - thanks for that.
The Drs and dentists one is particularly apt for us I think because so often we come bottom of the list.
The Decor one - well that's what we all doing isn't it - making our homes just as divine as we are.
Re the Disability - well LW I agree with you absolutely on this one - unfortunately the rest of the world doesn't seem too. Oh the SS talk the talk but they don't walk the walk. They do nothing.
My husband's body may fail him but his brain is still just fine and dandy - in fact more than that - he is an extremely intelligent man with a finely tuned academic mind. Think Stephen Hawkins and you get the picture. Unfortunately most of SS just don't seem to get it - they can be so bl**dy patronising - talking down to him as if he were a 5 year old.
For all their "training" and courses for his "human rights" - ha - they are always bleating on about this one - they have very little understanding and even less common sense or nous. Besides them he is an academic colossus and yet so often they talk to him as if he were a half wit.
If we had had the right support from 2006 when he first became symptomatic he could have carried on working for much longer and he could have gone into research which is something he always intended to do as part of his semi retirement plan. He still probably could but without help and back up it's impossible. Stephen Hawkins has a veritable army of support.
I know this because a friend of ours has a son who is also in research and he has a room on the same corridor as Stephen at Cambridge University.
Instead my OH was left high and dry. Any support we've had has always been too little, far too late. Even now my OH would love to "do something". It's always been up to me to help provide mental stimulation for him - I even paid myself for computer adaptations.
I'm sorry if I sound sceptical but I've seen the reality of how "help for disabled people works" and the fact is - it stinks.
As my dear Aunty S once told me - whatever you do don't rely on the state - it won't be there for you when you need it most. She would spin in her grave if she could see what my poor OH has had to endure.
This is why I am so determined
- yes Determination is one of my 'D's.
It might still be possible to buy in extra help for OH.
Now that his basic nursing needs are being taken care of and I'm not so tied down I'm hoping that if I can improve our finances then we might be able to afford a part-time secretary or research assistant to enable him to do something academic.
Who knows. I've certainly not given up yet - I'm just taking a breather.
So ladies determination is the key to all endeavour.
Never give up, there are good days and bad days. Days when you feel like throwing in the towel. What do you do - don't panic - it's not the end of everything.
Have a day off - take a step back.
It's not a failure - it's a tactical retreat.:rotfl::rotfl:0
