By realising there was no magic wand, fad diet and magic cure that worked and it was the well worn and not realised sensible option of changing what I ate from high fat and high sugar to a more sensible and healthier option and getting active

So changing to eating much better - at least 5 a day and often a lot more and keeping active. A nice healthy balance of eating well and exercising often. Don't have to overdo it though, keeping at it is the key as my mum discovered too when she started walking the dog every day and building up for 10mins to an hour a day and also went down a dress size too.

Quite sad at all the money and time I wasted on fad diets and so on over the years, but maybe that was part of the journey to get the where I am now otherwise I might never have got here to where I am now, which is happy and healthy.

What really helped me was joining an online diet plan through Sainsbugs which worked. Unbelievable, I never thought it would but it did and as I have done so well on it 4 of my colleagues have joined as a result!

That's great fedupandskint, thanks. :) I must just knuckle down and do it properly....I don't do fad diets anymore (I used to believe me!!) but doing nothing is no good either. I could seriously do with losing a good couple of stones. :o

I could lose a stone and be happy with my size and shape. Giving up smoking has been fairly ok apart from the eating everything in sight bit. Feeling decidedly flabby these days:o
If I do go on holiday its 11 weeks away so a stone would be doable in that time - just need to find the motivation and willpower from somewhere now!
I am making a conscious effort from Monday though to eat properly (not necessarily diet) and not scoff the amount of cr*p I have been recently.

I'll join you on Monday then :D A stone would be great for me too. I seem to be in a rut of eating lots of junk too. How is the non-smoking going? Well done for keeping it up! I stopped a few years back and found a self help book really helpful, I think it was the Allen Carr one.

I was a tad envious of your proposed holiday, it sounds so lovely....:j

I can daub a bit but feel a bit self conscious about displaying my own work. I would really fancy doing some fabric/textile collages - very time consuming though. I have done some nice cross stitch samplers but they seem a bit too "Victorian" for my modern house, would be more at home in a cottage.

How about this or this or this.

I have been several times and the atmosphere is wonderful. Very inclusive and friendly, lovely accommodation and food.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Wow thank you for that. I have often wondered about doing some kind of textile courses and I've often wondered about doing some kind of "activity" based short break.

As a new "singleton" I am still a tad unsure about holidaying on my own - WW - maybe we need to form a "Holiday Club".

I've looked at some of the specialist companies like "Just You" and whilst they do look good they do seem quite expensive. I think if I was going on "biggie" or to a destination where you really need a guide - Far East - then I would be tempted. I'm still not really ready to travel too far at the moment so a nice WI type of residential course sounds idea.

I'm really struggling today - see next post.
