Good morning
How fantastic is this sunshine? :T shall be enjoying it while it lasts which I suspect is to the end of today :rotfl:
Haven't had a shower yet so fabbing will involve scrubbing, defuzzing, moisturising. Got date night with H tonight so will glam up for that. Going for a meal and then cinema
If you can get out in the sun (safely of course.....sorry LW you'll have to pass ) and enjoy those Vit D benefits :T
WW well done on day 2 of no smoking :T
Lizzie if this is too personal tell me to mind it but do you and your H still share the marital bed, not inquiring as to marital relations but do you still have to share the bed? Assume your youngest kids still at home means there isn't a spare bedroom you could move into for more independence? Are they aware that it's not a happy relationship.....kids generally are more astute than we give them credit for. FWIW I think are slowly getting more confidence, it's more noticeable in your posts :T
LL hope your back is feeling bit better xxx
Hugs all round for those that need them xxI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks
All will be well in the end. If it's not well, it's not the end.Be humble for you are made of earth. Be noble for you are made of stars0 -

PS LL - did you manage a little walk yesterday?
Yes I did. I strapped up my ankle, wore a knee support and took some painkillers. I know I know.My back was very painful but I did it, admittedly only 10 mins each way but it's a start. I also did a fairly major garden tidy up, shifting pots around etc. I overdid it so need to be careful today.
I thought about going for a walk this morning, but tbh I'm thinking that because I hope to take my OH out this afternoon I really need to conserve my energy a bit and nurse my back. Pushing a wheelchair is very hard work.
Actually I've thoughts on that score.
As you know OH went for a wheelchair assessment. They will not fund an outdoor powered chair because he doesn't meet their criteria.
Apparently the user must pass a test - i.e. going out on their own and crossing a major road. OH cannot do this so is not eligible. I explained that he would never be in a position when he was on his own - someone would always be with him.
No dice - rules is rules:eek:
He can have an indoor one to get around the home but not an indoor/outdoor one. So.............
I've been doing my homework and there is a little battery powered motor gizmo thingy that you can fit onto a manual wheelchair. The wheelchair user cannot operate it, the person pushing the chair does. I've only seen pictures so far.
My son was chatting to a couple who visited the garden centre the other day and they had one. He told them about me and asked if he could try it and they let him. He thinks this would make my life a lot easier, so I think this is the way I'm going to go.
It will have to be self funded of course around £500. Wheelchair services will not pay for this because it is not for the wheelchair user's direct benefit. I understand the logic but as usual it's "bu**er the carer" - let them destroy their health and wreck their bodies.
Frankly - I'm sick of it. I will just find the money and protect myself from further injury. I am worth it.
Anyway I won't be visiting OH tomorrow so I will aim to walk then. Take it slowly and build up. If I can manage 20 minutes or so every other day this week that will be a good place to start.
Well done on the no smoking day 1.
Must dash - only came on here to do some on-line banking. I'm supposed to be cleaning bedrooms.:rotfl:0 -
I am a lurker and not a frequent poster, but my husband used to be a wheelchair service engineer and he recommends the use of a power pack which will give you up to 4 miles to help with hills etc. Hope this helps you LL.

LL If you do get the electric gizmo, let me know how you get on, please.:o Mr LW is fine pushing my chair at present, (specially as I'm two and a half stone lighter than I used to be:D )but it's something we might want to look at later on. Normally, if there's an uphill gradient, I help him by "self-propelling" at the same time as he pushes, but at present, with my shoulder so painful, I can't do that.
Of course, locally, for dog-walking and such-like, I use the buggy, but it's rather big and heavy, and a quite a faff to take to bits and lump into the car, so if we're out and about, we use the wheelchair.:o
Managed to get my hair washed this morning - free samples of shampoo and conditioner that arrived the other day, too!
Actually, I must go - I'm supposed to be using the netbook to sort out the holiday packing list, not bimble about on MSE!:D:whistle:If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
As you know LL my sister uses a wheelchair and it can be incredibly hard work pushing her around sometimes (she's about the same size as me so its like moving two full people IYSWIM).
I'd never heard of the battery pack things - if you get a mo could you post a link at some point so I can investigate on behalf of my mum - that sort of thing would help no end. My dad has angina now and has to be careful with exertion (although that doesn't appear to apply to golf;)) and so this could benefit him too when pushing sis about.
I've just done a big clean and declutter and tidy of the conservatory to make it into a room you'd want to be in again. Its always had nice furntiure and decoration etc but slowly its been cluttered with bits and pieces - but no more! Been to the tip and hoovered and washed the car so all de-fagged and no temptation. Can you tell I'm trying to keep occupied!:rotfl:
It won't be as bad tomorrow as I don't smoke at all from 7.30- 4pm (work time).0 -
Just watching Dallas (the original one) on one of the satellite channels and its hilarious!:T
Pam just had shoulder pads on that made her turn sideways to go through a door (literally about 3ft wide), Sue Ellen is wearing a turban and is drunk and Miss Ellie just looks like the frump she was (even on her wedding day to Clayton Farlow)! :rotfl::rotfl:Its brought back loads of memories - I watched it with my mum as a child and thought it was soooo glam and grown up.
For anyone that wants a laugh or to marvel at the 80s fashion its on channel 149 on Sky (CBS Drama).
It'll definitely cheer you up if you're feeling a bit down......0 -
My guilty secret was "Dynasty". :rotfl: The thing I remember most about Sue Ellen was the lip quiver.:rotfl:
I am currently watching a series about the 70's. It's a documentary that looks at the history and politics of that decade, the strikes, IRA bombings, 3 day weeks, fuel shortages, rampant inflation, the IMF loan, devaluing the £, the economy in free fall, the drought of '76 - even I got fed up with the heat eventually, the Queen's Jubilee - what larks!!! I remember it well.
Amazing how history has a habit of repeating itself and just how apt the struggles still are. On a lighter note they've also been revisting the fashions and music - Prog Rock, Glam Rock, Punk. I'm still a David Bowie fan, such an original - even my Mum said he was a "class act"
I don't know if anyone else is interested but tomorrow night at 9pm on ITV there is my all time favourite TV programme in all the world.
Originally it was called "7-UP", this year it will be "56-UP". The premise is that it follows the lives of ordinary folk and visits them every 7 years, starting when they were just 7 year old schoolchildren up to the present day.
I find this programme absolutely fascinating, watching them grow up and develop and seeing how their lives have panned out. A couple have dropped out and no longer want to be filmed but on the whole most of the original gang are still taking part.
My sis is in Oz as you know so I will definitely have to record this because she is as hooked as I am.
It will be on for the next three Mondays.
OH not too well again so we didn't go out - I could have gone for that walk after all. Again he said to me today "I'm getting worse aren't I".
I played it down as I always do so as not to panic or depress him suggesting that he was probably very tired but I think it's time to get that Solicitor back and get that Advance Directive in place. Hopefully it's a bit premature but I suppose I really do have to plan ahead. I don't want him forced to endure medical treatments he doesn't want. The sad truth is he is going downhill.
Anyway DS2 will be home shortly - starving as usual - so time to get the dinner on.0 -
Hello everybody,
Thanks for your comments lessonlearned and lizzie157.
lessonlearned - It is tempting though to try moving about more isn't it? Also, saddened to hear about you and OH's situation.
Had another look in my wardrobe as I am wondering about my dress-sense and hair. I may check whether there is a hair dye that also keeps your hair healthy and wont stain the bath/sink.
Anyway, my back problem continues so hoping another week will result in it healing. Will try and achieve something worthwhile in the meantime.0 -
'Lo everybody
Way back when, I joined in this thread and then promptly vanished away and haven't been back
I have been lurking and trying to be fab but I have to admit the weather has really dragged me down. I keep opening the wardrobe and having to drag out the same old wintery clothes:(
This weekend, the sun has come out at last and I have culled the contents of my wardrobe so the only way is up!:j
Although I haven't been paying as much attention to my appearence as maybe I should have, we have added something to our life that has increased its fab-ness no end!:T0 -
