Acceptance
For the sake of inner peace and emotional well being we sometimes need to learn the gentle art of acceptance. In the words of the old Rolling Stones song "You can't always get what you want, but sometimes you get what you need"
We are what we are, the past is in the past. No matter how much we may want things to be different - there are times when we are simply powerless to make things different.
We cannot make ourselves six inches shorter, sometimes we just have to accept reality. Sometimes we just need to face up to things, with good grace and a stout heart.
We cannot undo the mistakes we made in the past, however we can learn from them and vow not to repeat them.
We cannot turn back the clock, we cannot change what has gone before. However, sometimes we can turn them into a positive learning experience.
It doesn't pay to dwell on the what might have beens/the what could have beens. All we have is right here, right now and if we are lucky, what might be in the future.
As the old Japanese proverb goes "That was then, this is now".
Adapt
Life sometimes throws us a curve ball. Bad things sometimes happen. We or our loved ones get sick, a loved one dies, we lose our jobs, we make bad financial decisions and suffer the consequences. Sometimes it's our own fault, sometimes it's simply circumstances beyond our control.
We can wallow in self pity and give up on life or we can adjust and adapt to our new reality. We can be flexible, imaginative and creative. We can pick ourselves up and start again or we can throw in the towel. The choice is ours to make.
Activity
It's a big wide world, full of wonder and beauty, full of interesting people and fun things to do. We need to make sure we get out there and grab a piece of the action - before we are too old and decrepit to take advantage of all that the world has to offer.
You don't need money, a sunset is free, a trip to a gallery is free, a picnic in the park won't break the bank.
To those looking for love - well Brad Pitt/Zac Effron/George Clooney etc aren't going to come knocking on the door - you've just got to get out there - looking fab-u-lous.
Adventure
Life is an adventure - or it should be. OK so maybe I'm not going to visit the Galapagos Islands any time soon, and perhaps I'm just not fit enough to go trekking through Tibet. However, never say never. Who knows if I work and save I might just get there yet. In the meantime there's a train that takes me to London in less than 2 hours.
There are lots of ways to be adventurous, new foods to cook and eat, new friends to make, new courses to take, a new language or a new instrument to learn. This year I will cook at least one new recipe a week and I will start to learn Italian. Again you don't need a lot
of money to have an adventure.
Off to cook dinner. Bye for now x0 -
Thank you all for the lovely welcome!
Lessonlearned I barely know you, but can I offer you a Wolfy (((HUG)))? Along with my very best wishes for the future.evilsquid1603 wrote: »do you have any nail polishes? i love painting my nails crazy colours, always cheers me up a bit! plus it makes you spend a nice half hour to yourself.I have some.... but they never get used. They must all be over a decade old, as I brought them with me when I moved in here, which was in May 2002. Unfortunately, I only have to look at my nails for them to splinter, they're that fragile. It's just one more area I need to pay a spot of attention to, I guess. I mean.... I keep a tube of hand cream on the kitchen shelf. Do I ever use it? Do I heck! Mr LW uses it more than I do!:rotfl:
Still.... it's not all bad; today I've done Half Hour Yoga and Half Hour of other Wii Fit! I've been out twice on the buggy, for Sidney's walks (unfortunately Sid's gone home today, but I have another dog coming to stay on January 7th).
Also, as part of the Flylady Decluttering, I've recently been through all my clothes and got rid of those that were beyond redemption, didn't fit and never would, or I just plain wouldn't wear cos I didn't like.
I guess I need to do Baby Steps, just like new people on Flylady, or I'll be overwhelmed before I start.:D I'm currently waiting for my Plaquenil (meds for lupus) to kick in properly - hopefully this will be by the end of January, and I'm part way through a change of anti-d meds, so once all that's on an even keel, I'm hoping I'll have a little more energy to spare, and if all goes well, there'll be no stopping me!:D
Oh, and yes, Mr LW is an angel!:A:rotfl:If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Lessonlearned - a big hug sent your way and well done for staying so positive.

Lessonlearned - I've only 'known' you since starting to read this thread earlier today but I'm sending you hugs too....:grouphug:
what must have been an emotional day already and yet you still have time to post inspiring and thought provoking 'A' words...I wish you both well in your changed circumstances :heart2:Anywhere is within walking distance - if you have the time!!0 -
Have loved the blog links people have posted so far - particularly your one Nancy888 - thanks - love those mood boards of clothes that all work together...am getting ready for a wardrobe overhaul later this month...
Glad you liked it...like I said I lost a whole afternoon flicking backwards through her previous posts (thought I could only lose time like that on here :rotfl:)
Fair enough I can't afford a Preen skirt (never even heard of the brand until I stumbled on her blog) it's 450 something silly dollars - even with the exchange rate that's faaarrr too many £s but I can take the idea and the cut and style and colour and buy one from H&M or similar - it's all about using the ideas and making them work for usAnywhere is within walking distance - if you have the time!!0 -
LL - hugs from me too, it must have been a tough day but we are all here for you.0
