Hi
I am wondering how do I overcome my feelings of guilt, about spending time on/for myself.
I'm a working mum (off at mo for xmas), have 2 kids (14 and 11) not littlies anymore, my hubby works shifts so everyother week they dont see dad as he is working in the evenings. When I get home from work its tea, tidy, help with homework, taxi them around. By the time I've done all that I'm exhausted, my job is more mentally tiring than psyical.
I have struggled for years with taking time out for myself, and guess thats why I have joined this thread as the years of not tkaing extra care of myself have made me into a big frump!
I want to and need to have time for myself, but even thinking about it I feel guilty that I'm not doing things with the kids or around the house.
Your advice will be very welcome.
Cheers hope you all have a fab day xx
Hi Hewie29,
Firstly, welcome.
I don't have children but I know what you mean. However, you do not need to feel guilty for spending some time on you. Think of how much a more confident person you'll be by taking baby steps to becoming fab. And confidence is a wonderful gift to pass on to your children.
How much do your children help at home? It could be that say 2 nights per week, they make dinner between them which gives you half an hour to have bath in peace or do your nails.0 -
Morning everyone! Not sure how fab I will feel today on the drive back to London!
Liz Earle really divides people! Some love it and swear by it but others don't get on with it or think it's over priced for what it is. I don't think the beauty bible is as honest or reliable as a site like makeupalley which has 100s of review per product and people have more freedom with what they write.
hewie, welcome, don't feel guilty! I'm sure your family will like having a more relaxed mum around. Now your children are getting older I doubt they'll need mum's taxi service and you'll have more free time to yourself. Do they help around the house? Like heebie-jeebies said, they are old enough to learn to cook a meal and do chores. I was 11/12 when I stopped getting lifts and started making dinners and the independence was nice, also made me appreciate how much my mum did.Living cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -
morning all
Firstly, LessonLearned- I read your touching posts yesterday and it made me think about life and you're right with what you wrote. A for adapt to life, life is about now not yesterday and yes it is an adventure and finally, activities are free. That's what I thought about my exercise routine and said goodbye to the gym forever and then stuck to running outside and enjoying this so much more than in a gym. Plus my mum had a shock when I made a picnic lunch for us on a day out the other year!
Secondly, so far today I have walked the dog on a longer walk this morning, gone for a short sprinty type run for 30mins only today, swept up the leaves outside and pre treated my hair, hair mask, full cleanse, tone, face oil, face balm and moisturise. I'm just having a little rest now!
Later on I'll do another facial exfoliate and face mask - maybe another relaxing bath too

Morning :j
I have a fab day planned today. When I finish chatting online I am going to have a healthy breakfast before going to the library to collect a copy of the beauty bible so I can select my new skin care regime.
First thing this morning I gave myself a manicure and I am booked in to get my hair cut at 4pm. I'm in desperate need of health overhaul as I am a bit on the chubby side and increadibly unfit
. Think a wee walk to the shops later and a fitness DVD may be in order!

today i started the day with hot water and lemon. i was determined to start doing it because apparently its miraculous for you but i just keep forgetting and find myself hugging a strong coffee before i remember its supposed to be hot water and lemon :rotfl:[Deleted User] wrote:Morning All. I am finding getting into a routine quite hard. Last night I went to bed with make-up on again - I just forgot I had it on.
i keep a pack of those simple cleansing wipes by my bed so if i ever forget, i can at least take my make up off if i fall into bed with it on.I've got no routine at all any more and I have put on nearly 2 stone since our honeymoonhoping with a bit of help here, I could be on my way to being fab for our aniversary
thats exactly what I've done since august! I'm surprised just how much as gone on and and how quickly just from being at home more.Hi

are they not interesting in joining cadets? I'm a staff member in the air cadets and we take them from age 12. it'll get them out from under you for 2 nights a week and some odd weekends and week long summer camps usually cost about £50 for them to go away for 7 whole days.0 -
Hi all.
Well, I made a wee note in my PDA for today to epilate my legs (which currently resemble those of an honest-to-goodness real live Timber Wolf), and trim all my nails, THEN..... Mr LW announced that he'll be finishing work at 15:00 today, so he'll be home about 16:15.
I have a cheque to bank, and a Tesco list to get, which I was going to try for tomorrow, but town and Tesco will be less crowded today, so the legs and nails have now had to be put off. Story of my life, really.....:DBitsy_Beans wrote: »Meant to also say bought my extra virgin olive oil from Aldi today, have had to warn H as to why a bottle will be in the bathroom, before he thinks I've lost the plot! A for see ambit of EVOO tonightLW if you have creams and such why not use them if you're bored or watching tv? fingers crossed that your meds kick in asap.Trouble is, because most tasks take me 3 times as long as for normal folks, I don't get the time to sit down and do "me" stuff. EVOO is just Extra Virgin Olive Oil. It's a variation on the Oil Cleansing Method which uses castor oil mixed with a carrier oil like olive oil, almond etc. Castor oil is a PITA to get, chemists don't sell it anymore and I struggled to get the right mix as castor oil can be very drying. So I Massage a bit of the oil over my face and then steam it off using a hot flannel. leaves skin feeling lovely. I think fuddle does it on the Tougher thread in OS, its where I first read EVOO......I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife

Good afternoon all
I've just got back from the haridressers where I've had my roots touched up so ready for the new job on Tuesday.
As for perfume most things smell like Jeyes Fluid once I put them on  - no matter how gorgeous they smell on the test cards...so my friend collected a LOAD of testers from Debenhams and Boots and presented them to me just before Christmas for me to wear around the house and do a proper test. So this morning I went to the hairdressers with Thierry Mugler (sp?) Angel on one arm and Calvin Klein Beautiful on the other...I guessed there would be enough smells in the salon that no-one would wonder who smelled bad :rotfl:
Anyway Angel still smells like Jeyes Fluidbut I think I have an 'everyday' option with the Beautiful - just need to get a full sized bottle.
Still have Lola by Marc Jacobs, Lady Million by Gucci and another 5 or 6 to test but Beautiful is looking like a possible at the mo....
Going into town tomorrow and getting my nails done before next week so my hands look respectable when meeting all my new colleagues...I broke my right thumb nail really, really low when I was putting the dustbin out last week and it looks ghastly...
Is this fabbing myself or just downright vanity...??!!Anywhere is within walking distance - if you have the time!!0
