    Hi

I am wondering how do I overcome my feelings of guilt, about spending time on/for myself.

    xx

Of course you feel guilty - you're a woman. We are conditioned to feel guilt - it is our default position.:rotfl:

Seriously, how many men take on the mantle of guilt the way we do.

Now listen - in my best fake French "allo. allo" accent.

I vill say zis only once. :rotfl::rotfl:

    Guilt is not an option.

Taking care of yourself is not frivolous, not mere vanity. It's about dignity, self respect, and looking after your physical and mental health and your emotional well being.

Trust me - if you are not prepared to take responsibility for your own well being, who else will.

The fabbing element sounds light-hearted and it is meant to be. However, look a little deeper and you will see that all this TLC is not just about putting on a bit of slap - it's about taking care of the whole person.

If you start with some basic beauty routines and taking care of your appearance you will start to reap all sorts of benefits that you haven't even begun to imagine yet.

The whole frump to fab ethos will start to spill over into other areas of your life, making you fitter, stronger and in a much better position to face anything that life throws at you.

New age hippy nonsense - maybe - but trust me on this it works. Stay with the programme - you will be amazed.

For the newbies - you ain't seen nuthin yet!!!

You know my story - without my doing frump to fab I would have gone under. That's the truth.

Now a note for the regulars - for the sake of the newbies - I thought we could have a bit of revision next week. I promise there will be no exams:D I thought we could backtrack a little and go over some of the earlier tips - a sort of Back to Bascis.

This will hopefully help with issues like guilt, fear of being seen as shallow or vain etc.

For myself - well today was good. I've done a mini blitz downstairs, - edited to say in the house Ooooops - You naughty naughty girls. Given myself a deep cleansing face mask and plenty of slathering. Popped over to see OH - he seems happy and content.

A few more "A's" then I'm off to loll on the sofa with a G&T, whilst I paint my nails.

    G'night all x

I think a revision of the basics is a very good idea :j:j:j I definitely need to be reminded.

I have created a Fabulous word document where I cut and paste all the salient points so that when I need to read back for inspiration it is all there for ease of reference.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
  • Aromatherapy

You can do this yourself - ok maybe not a full body massage.

You can however, make lots of goodies, safe, eco-friendly and gorgeous, all for a pittance. I make facial serums, body oils, body and hand scrubs, bath treatments, room sprays, light cologne type sprays. I also make my own eco friendly insect repellents and cleaning potions.

All you need is a little book of recipes. I paid £5 but there is always the library or you could google for instructions. Add a bottle of suitable carrier oil, I use grape seed, cheap as chips and a few bottles of your preferred essential oils. And away you go - dead easy.

    Asprin Face Mask

This is great for comedones (posh word for blackheads), open pores, congested skin.

The science bit - asprins contain salicylic acid.

6 aspirins finely crushed into a little warm water to make a paste
Apply to clean warm skin, leave for about 10 minutes, rinse off. Job done.

Do not apply to dry sensitive areas, avoid eye area etc.
    Use once a week only.

    AHA's - Alpha Hydroxy Acid

In other words fruit acids. Great for brightening up tired, sallow looking complexions.

Obviously this homemade version will not compare with a glycolic salon facial peel, but it's safe and cheap.

The darker skinned fruit works best, black grapes, summer fruits such as strawberries, raspberries, fruits of the forest etc.

A few pieces of very ripe fruit mashed up and applied to the skin.
    Leave 10 minutes.

To give it a turbo boost, add some finely ground oatmeal which will have an exfoliating effect.

    WARNING,:eek::eek:WARNING,:eek::eek: WARNING.:eek::eek:

I have seen glycolic acid for sale on the internet. Please, please, please do not even think about it.

This should be a salon only treatment.

Only attempt this at home if you really know what you are doing and can be absolutely certain you are buying from a reputable supplier.

    Remember acid can burn.

I think that's about it for the "A"s.

If you have any more please do post them up.
  • Molly - that's great - I thought that is what some of you wanted.

Do the separate posts for recipes etc work ok for this.

I will do the same thing myself - when I've learned how. I am going to do a little book for my one day Granddaughters to be.

That is when my boys get cracking. Fat chance - not even any girls on the horizon.

    Any takers ladies???
  • hi ladies - havent been on since about tuesday but have made a start this week - probably not the best week but every little step helps. wore makeup everyday to work, made sure had nice tops to go with the drab black trousers (that will change when i can spare some money for new ones) popped to t's through the week and made sure i changed into my jeans instead of old joggers - same today for nipping round town normally would jump in the car as i was and just go but tidied myself up, put on the slap and off i went - highlighting kit still lying there but hopefully tomorrow will get that done - new year new start!

I dug out my bronze Urban Decay eyeliner today to go with my bronze Rimmel eyeshadow, it looked lovely :) Also wore a top that I haven't worn for aaaaaaages which goes really well with my tights and boots.

Plus I bought an appley green Natural Collection eyeshadow from Boots coz I wanted the extra 50 Advantage points with any Natural collection purchase.

I have no idea what's gone on with my hair, I'm sure it's like an inch longer on one side! I got it cut a couple of weeks ago and my hair's wonkier than ever. Hmm....

Like a few other posters I suffer from depression and some days just getting out of bed and getting through the day is a huge effort.
    Allie

Hi everyone I'm new & came across this thread by searching for Beauty Therapy Course funding which is something I want to do. I am so glad I'm not alone when it comes to depression - today has been a v bad day & left me feeling worthless. My DS1 started school in September & pick-up time feels like you're in an episode of Desperate Housewives or something. I have put on weight since having kids & up until now have been able to eat whatever I want (I know not healthy) so I want to get fit, healthy & glow this year - strange I came across this thread by chance after making that my decision!

So are there suggested babysteps for us to start with? Or do we make up our own.
  • Remembered to take my make up off tonight - I set a wee alarm on my mobile phone to remind me:). My skin feels the better for it.

Lessonlearned I would love it if you would go though some basics. Thank you.
