Oh no, you too? :( I didn't realise how painful sciatica was til I had it. People would mention their lower back and I'd think it was like backache. I had no idea it travelled down your leg too, and made life pretty much impossible. Mine is going now, but it's taking it's time. Every now and then my right leg 'goes' (don't know how to describe it) and I have to stop completely still for a few seconds, then be very careful about how I stand up or take the next few steps.

Thankfully mine is a dull ache rather than pins and needles or sharp pain. It's bl00dy uncomfortable though, wake in the morning, early, shattered but desperate to be out of bed and upright as it lessens the ache standing. Shall be surviving on coffee today. And probably chocolate :o

  • thank you maman and fedupandskint i'll have a look for them both!

the best thing to do is to go into all the department stores you can get to and have a good look at the people working on them and what make up they have on. I've found that if they have caked on foundation and heavy eye make up, they will probably do it to you too. if you like how someone looks, ask them to do your make up.

don't worry about being pressurised into buying it all. if you really like a product then go ahead but don't be afraid to say no. if its your first time with a new foundation shade on, always say that you need to see it in daylight first before you buy it. never trust the store lighting because it will always be different to outside. take a small mirror with you, just nip outside and look at it to check that you don't have tide marks and it doesn't look like a completely different shade to your neck. check it doesn't completely wash you out either.

if you want a more daytime look and for a first time, i'd probably go for bobbi brown or bare minerals. their ethos is very much accentuate what you have now rather than slap it on. I've been to both of them for makeovers and they actually listen to your answers when they ask what you already use and do.

bobbi brown has a brilliant "Learn" section on her website (http://www.bobbibrown.co.uk/cms/learn/articles_index.tmpl?cm_re=Gnav-_-Learn-_-ViewAllArticles) so have a read around that before you go in so you know what they might try and put on you or recommend. her books are amazing too, I've got them all.

if you want a revamp, also deserving a mention is Lisa Eldridge's blog (http://www.lisaeldridge.com/) she does the make up for a lot of celebrities but her how-to videos are absolutely brilliant and she has covered literally every topic on basic make up application, daytime looks, party looks and looks to make you look gorgeous the day after a party.

mac do some really wonderful products but the assistants are very made up and the makeovers I've had with them have been very heavy handed and far too much of everything for me. to me, mac is very much "night out" make up: full face of foundation, smokey eyes, false lashes or statement lips.

if you are going to invest in anything, properly colour matched foundation that makes your skin look like you've just come back from a spa holiday is the thing to buy. if you need it, i'd pay more for properly matched concealer too, especially for under your eyes. later on when you get the hang of it all, a good set of brushes might also come in handy. the rest you can get from boots. if you know how to apply it properly, a £3 eyeliner from boots looks the same as a £13 mac eye kohl.

Great post evilsquid! The first time I went for a department store make-over, the woman told me they were too busy which put me off. In another shop, I did exactly as you described to find the makeover lady who didn't look too made up.
I'm off to read the blogs you recommended now.

In a very wierd coincidence, like Heebie Jeebies I'm also living in Switzerland for a while - where abouts are you?

    Hi gien
Well that's unusual! How long have you been here? I'm glad to have "found" you, maybe we can share some ideas for where to buy certain products here!

tru, sports direct do lots and have really good nike sports bras, the ones that feel really thick like they are made of foam are amazing.
bitsy, be careful :( Make sure you are really warmed up before you stretch, out of breath and starting to sweat. Try 20 star jumps then 20 sec marching on the spot x 10 then dynamic stretches like hip circles and swinging your arms. Sometimes sciatica around christmas can be due to dehydration or sudden bloating/weight gain from eating loads more than usual. I've had it due to both :o Drinking lots of water and long hot baths followed by gentle stretching helped me.

Hello fabbers! I've had my green smoothie for today, it was 1 banana, 1/2 cucumber, 1 kiwi, 1/2 grapefruit. Not a lot of vegetables but I don't have many in. I've been reading about juicers and now I really want one, I looked at one which gives almost a litre of juice from 1.5kg carrots
I'm watching E!(nothing on tv!) and it's doing a special on celebs who lost loads of weight through dancing with the stars and zumba.
Today I need to pack to go back to London and fab by having a bubble bath and epilating.

Hi folks. I didn't do much fabbing at all yesterday and couldn't even face washing/cleansing my face in the morning - that was until I looked in the mirror and saw the difference in my skin. That motivated me to keep going. Other than that I did very little. Like a few other posters I suffer from depression and some days just getting out of bed and getting through the day is a huge effort. Yesterday was one of those days.

    Todays Fabbing plans
    1. Cleanse/tone/moisturise face
    2. Shower and moisturise full body
    3. Have walk - a good couple of miles somewhere. Weather dependant.
    4. Have a visit to my gym for a steam/sauna.

I'm over in the outskirts of Basel, in a small town just in Baselland, my DH works in the city.
Right at the moment we're on holiday in the mountains so I'm getting a lot of exercise but eating too much fatty and stodgy food - will be a bit bigger by the time we get back after new year!

My fab efforts today will be:

Have a nice hot bath and do my feet
Eat some fruit instead of a mince pie!
Go out again this afternoon for a walk with the dog.
    Trying to keep in budget.

  • Morning fabbers!

Thank you to everyone that replied about the make up overhaul - very useful! I'm planning to go the weekend after payday for advice on the new look.

Well, I have weighed this morning and its :eek::eek: time!
    Its worse than I thought!
So the losing weight campaign starts today - no excuses.
I've done a freezer and cupboard stocktake and have plenty of food I just need to buy some fresh stuff to go with it. All sweets are now banished to the attic (can't throw them away, there's about £20 worth!) and I've found the 30 day Shred DVD.

Funnily enough, I actually feel ok about myself today (apart from the flab) - the skin regime, nails and eyebrows make me look like I've made a bit of an effort (even in my pyjamas!).

    Today's fabbing will be....
    1. Brisk dog walking
    2. 30 day shred DVD (hard but effective)
    3. Defuzzing
    4. Face regime
    5. Not eating rubbish!
Right its finally stopped raining so a dog walk is first on the list.
Hope everyone has a super fabby day!

Just had a quick read cos I'm a bit worried about keeping up with the thread. Hope I can master the internet function on my Kindle while I'm away. Feeling quite pleased with myself as I've just discovered the 'add to favorite bar' and can now save it at the last page read...wonderfull this technology.
Hope you get out for that walk Allie23, it always helped me when I had depression, I try not to let the weather stop me as I find a nice walk on a rainy day really lifts my spirits.
Alice came to a fork in the road. "Which road do I take?" she asked. "Where do you want to go?" responded the Cheshire cat. "I don't know," Alice answered. "Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter."

*Sticks head very tentatively round the door*

I wonder if I could possibly come in please? I promise I'll sit quietly and not be a bother.:D

A spot of background. I'm ter-twiddly-umpty-one years old (Oh ok, a fraction over half a century):D, a wheelchair user, semi-housebound - can only go out at all if my DH, Mr LW, who works full time, is around to assist, and have mild body dysmorphia, in that I won't allow any mirrors hung where I might inadvertently catch sight of myself.

I say semi-housebound - the only time I ever leave the house without Mr LW is for dog-walking. I don't have my own dog, but am a host for a dog-sitting service; the dogs come and stay with me in the bungalow, and if we have a canine guest, Mr LW gets my mobility buggy out before he goes to work and parks it just outside the front door, ready for me to use.

I'm too scared to go anywhere I'd have to deal with people alone, (I believe the proper term is anthropophobia), and can't cope with physical contact with others, so Mr LW is lumbered with cutting and colouring my hair for me.:A

Coming up to 2 years ago, we got a WiiFitPlus, with which I have lost two and a half stone (having trouble losing any more though) so technically I'm not 'orribly overweight any more (according to the Wii, my BMI is currently 23.3); my problem is motivation. I simple cba with face cream, hand cream, foot care, body care, hair care,make-up (there seems no point in the latter, when I don't go anywhere) and though I have a ton of stuff sat in the bedroom, I rarely bother using any of it.

I need assistance dressing/undressing, so can only have a bath when Mr LW is here, so long soaks are out of the question - we did recently get a bath-lift, to save his poor back, so he no longer has to haul me out.:o

I loathe and detest clothes shopping - I'd sooner saw my leg off with a rusty bread-knife than go out specially to buy clothes. I never wear footwear of any sort indoors, and often not at all in summer (not really needed in the wheelchair).:rotfl:

If you haven't nodded off yet, would you be so kind as to give me the required boot up the bum to do a bit more for me in 2012? (A gentle boot if you don't mind, though).:D I do know a few people here, which has emboldened me to post this.:o

    TIA:o
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)
  • Hi LW
I know you from the FlyLady threads and Mr LW always sounds like a great help around the house but now I know a bit of your background he sounds like an angel!
I'm trying to think of this as FlyLady for me rather than my house. My flat looked a lot better after a little effort in a week and I feel better have spent some time on me already.
