evilsquid welcome to the thread :) does slimming world have many vegetarian recipes? they're often cheaper than meat based dishes. maybe you and OH could go vegetarian during the weekdays and give up the booze? I dunno how much or what you drink but even if you only spend £10 a week on a bottle of vodka or some tinnies not drinking could save you £40 a month which could then pay for the two of you to get a bus to the peak district park, have a nice day walking and a pub meal (or whatever you like to do or just save it!).

    Thank you!

It has loads! We're thinking of going veggie and if we get meat don't buy it as often and get something really nice so its more of a treat and we appreciate it.

The booze has got to go full stop i think. I got to the point where if i started i could drink my way through a bottle of wine and not feel any worse for wear the day after. That was my wake up call that that just can't be good for me at all. Plus we need the money for electricity now, edf seem to just be making up the prices for our electricity bills and demanding more and more each time so all our money has to go straight to them.

I'm a staff member in the air training corps so we've been going there to get us out of the house twice a week so we'd prob be using the money we save for petrol for that. I decided to go for my commission to give me something to do and aim for atm too. I have to complete the RAF officer fitness test to get it so i need to start getting fit for that too.

Welcome evilmsquid. You don't need gym membership to get fit, it's just exercising that does that ;) there are lots of exercises you can do at home, press ups, tricep dips, lunges, squats, running (safely) up and down the stairs, brisk walking round the streets. As long as it gets your heart rate going then it's exercise. No fancy equipment required. High intensity interval training is about working St your maximum for short bursts with small rests in-between. Blooming hard work but on the plus side it's not an hour long slog at the gym :)

Have had the minging job of sorting out my feet - yukky old dead skin removed, toenails trimmed and painted. Absolutely hate anybodys feet, mine included so they've been neglected for a good while - better now though.

I've been thinking about make up and decided that I have used basically the same routine for the past 20 odd years:o
Now I'm 40 I think a revamp is in order but don't know how to go about it.

Can anyone suggest a good but affordable range that I can go and get made over with by a lady in Boots/Debenhams? I need an everyday look really that makes me look 10 years younger:rotfl:

My issue is that the ladies that do the make up seem to wear a bit of every product they sell:eek: and will expect me to buy everything - I'm happy to invest in a few reasonably priced items but can't afford to buy the whole range.

Please help if you've ever done this!

Welshwoofer I use mineral make up, doesn't clog my skin like liqud stuff does. You can get some lovely finishing powders to give a nice dewy look. Check out Lily Lolo or elemental beauty, both online companies and for the price of what i used to spend on Estee Lauder liquid foundation for a month I can get concealer, foundation and finishing powder that will last me approx 5 months :)

As for the rest of the slap.....ahem sorry make up I buy cheapie eyeshdows, has to be max factor black/brown mascara as black is too harsh and a bit ageing on me. Less is definately more as I get older ;)

welshwoofer, No7 or L'Oreal are probably the cheapest counters. Most counters will find a foundation shade for you and reccommend products for free but places like MAC will give you a complete makeover for £25 but you get £25 credit towards MAC products. I'm also a Lily Lolo fan, brilliant range unless you have super dry skin. Really easy to blend and build coverage, good for sensitive skin, so easy to apply you can do it without a mirror. You do need the kabuki brush, cheaper ones aren't as good. I think Lily Lolo do £1 sample pots.

I've done even more exercise today than I aimed to, exfoliated and had a smoothie but I've also had more choc oops.

Can I join in please? I have never been very fashionable or worn much make up. I don't even own any perfume or body spray. Or heels - I live in walking boots . I do need to make more of an effort though as am heading towards 40. I want to lose weight and start exercising properly again as I have got out of routine since about October. I never know which clothes to buy, which colours suit me. I am a SAHM and live in practical clothes which properly don't suit me.

Anyhow I nailed a set of pretty key hooks up next to my mirror today so I can hang some beads and bits there to encourage me to wear them. I am going to have a bath and file my feet. I may even paint my nails... Wish me luck.

You all sound so glamorous.:D I will learn to be a lady before I am 40.

Woke up feeling more frump than fab today, think its all the extra food and drink and not being in routine. Been out and tidyed the garden abit and walked into town and had a mooch around and got some fresh air so feel abit more alive.

I did manage to get myself some clothes in the sale, so instead of squeezing into some clothes I have afew to fit me until I start to lose some weight and I havent spent a fortune on them.

I have been thinking about my aims for the first half of the year and they include:

    1. Lose as much weight as poss
    2. To spend some time on myself, ie doing my nails, long relaxing baths, face masks and generally taking care of myslef a bit more
    3. To get fit, the local race for life is at the end of June and I would really like to be able to run the 5k, thats if I can overcome the embrassment of venturing outside, with the size that I am.

Thats it for now, but I am sure there are a few other things I could do with improving.

I will be fab by the summer fingers crossed

Hun I'm very overweight, and I'v done the race for life twice on my own, trust me no-one is concerened what you look like, it's the fact that your there, raising money and showing support for those going through a frightning time, just remember to enjoy the atmosphier 'cause there is a lot of laughter at the race's. P.S I did'nt run, I walked and so did a lot of other's.

Thank you chloris, welcome and good luck!

Welcome evilsquid too, you sound brighter already and good luck with your commission.

I just thought I'd mention that I belong to 2 other threads that have been really helpful (sorry I'm hopeless at linking to threads). First, I joined the 'giving up/cutting down alcohol thread' as I knew I was drinking too much and all the empty calories weren't helping my hopes for weightloss. I found that thread really helpful. When I had that sorted, I joined Slimming World. I did go to classes but also joined the SW thread on here. There are plenty of posters, like you evilsquid who have the books and do their own thing. Again it's a very supportive thread which keeps me focused.
