 morning all and welcome Hewie.

I couldn't just read and run and I promise you I'm not trying to sell anything!!!

I am a huge fan of Slimming World. It's the one and only diet I've ever tried and I'm sure it works because it's not a diet, it's a healthy eating plan. Put briefly, you can eat as much as you like as long as third of what you eat is fruit and veg. Nothing is banned but you do need to severely limit the obvious things like fat, sugar, floury stuff. Other than that you can eat and eat and eat.

What made me post is that your story has similarities with my own in the clothes to hide the fat and also the 10 month target. I know he did 'bad cop' earlier in the week but I'm sure your OH would be on board to support you. Without being too obsessive I lost 3.5 stone in 10 months and it's made me feel so much better about myself. I've gone from pushing a size 18 to a small 12. :jWith exercise and being stricter you could lose more or do it faster. There's a lovely, friendly SW thread on here. Think about it.

Sorry to hijack the thread with my evangelising for SW but it really is amazing.

I'm definitely joining in fab Friday. Haven't decided what to wear exactly but it'll be something nice. We're off for an Italian meal with friends then to see a stage version of the Kings Speech which has good reviews. MrsW (if you're lurking) we're sort of celebrating our friends 'anniversary' of when they met. It's a long (and lovely) story but I was there at their first meeting in Bali, playing matchmaker to an extent so it's lovely to meet up and share happy memories of a magical place.

    Take care all.

    Thanks Lamewolf and Maman.

I know I have to take baby steps, I always think that if I am good for one day I will wake up and be a size 12!!! wishful thinking eh. lol

I have in the past tried SW and yes it is a good plan, but I can't stand the waiting in the q to be weighed and thats why I never did well at WW either, it used to fill me with dread even when I knew I'd been good and had lost weight.

Hubby is behind me 100% he needed to be bad cop, he gets so frustrated with me and wants only the best for me.

I am going to try and be good and not see it as a diet but a lifestyle change. My meals are actually very good, its just the out of control snacking that messes it all up. Need to find some things to keep me busy.

Off out now for the afternoon with a friend and her daughter and mine. Have done hair and make-up so feeling ok.

    Hope you all remembered. ;)

Today I'm wearing grey trousers, grey & pink twinset, cranberry glass vintage bead necklace - made by moi and very pretty too if I may be so immodest:rotfl:

Have been rushing around like a lunatic for the past couple of days, spending hours on the phone, trawling through the internet.

I'm currently trying to sort out mobility options for OH - whether to chose a wheel chair accessible vehicle or a normal car with adaptations. It is so complicated.

Anyway starting to make some headway, have arranged for some demos and test drives over the next week or so.

Yesterday I went to my little local hardware store and got the nice man to cut me a piece of pine to make a shelf for the sideboard/unit I picked up from the YMCA for £25. The shelf and wood stain came to £8 so for £33 will have a nice new (to me) mexican pine unit to store all my DVD's, CD's etc.

Bought a coffee table to match off E-bay so my lounge will soon look much better. Am going to stain the shelf in a minute, ready to put it in place over the weekend. Then declutter another desk drawer - making good progress there too.

Tackling that elephant - it doesn't look nearly as daunting as it did a month ago.

Which brings me nicely to saying Hello and a nice big warm welcome to Hewie.

Take a deep breath Hewie and don't panic. Remember the elephant - one bite at a time. 10 months is a long time - you may not make that 5 stones but a steady 1-2lbs per week weight loss will see you almost at target. And more to the point you will feel much happier and be a lot healthier. Your trip will be a fabulous reward for all your efforts.

I agree with Maman & LW - forget diets - just eat healthily and try and exercise a little. Maman you are not hi-jacking the thread when you talk about SW. It's good of you to share your experience and knowledge with others.

Hewie - Start gently with the exercise, just a little walk, some stretches, try some hand weights for resistance training. Dancing is great exercise and fun, join a class or roll up that rug and get moving. Take it slowly and steadily and you'll get there.

Re the snacking - just make them healthy snacks - fruit, a bowl of berries with a little half fat creme fraiche is delicious, low in calories and nice and healthy. A couple of squares of good chocolate after dinner will help pacify a sweet tooth and stop you feeling deprived.

Evening munchies can be a real problem. What do you like doing - sewing, knitting, arts & crafts. If your hands are busy then you won't be able to stuff your face. :rotfl:

Re getting home from work, starving and can't wait for dinner. Try a drink of tea/water/low cal squash and a piece of fruit, a banana is ideal.

And of course, lots of fabbing along the way to make you look your best and feel good about yourself will help you stay motivated.

If you fall off the wagon now and again - well it's not the end of the world. Just draw a line and start again. However, many times it takes.

Keep smiling and keep us posted.
  • Well it goes from bad to worse. Have started a blog just to vent really since here isn't really the place.
Really need to get my a***e into gear but can't get my head round it atm, so much going on moved from pillar to post and no one seems to have a full idea what's going to happen and if those who are supposed to be sorting it out don't know how the f***k am I supposed to know.

Welcome hewie! I know what you mean about snacking, sometimes my just-in-from-work snacks are so big that I end up being too full to bother with dinner, healthy snacks like fruit or ryvita are good but sometimes once you start you can't stop and it's best to avoid it all together. Maybe you need a bigger lunch or a lunch with more fiber/protein to keep you full? I try to eat a big snack around 11(banana and 9 brazil nuts today), my lunch late at 2/3 and that keeps me going until dinner at 6/7.

I picked up some NIP+FAB products in tk maxx for very cheap today and 8 hour cream spf50 ready for summer. I only used spf15 and spf30 last summer, I really need something stronger this year especially as I will be living at OH's which is surrounded by lovely country side and next to the Chilterns gateway and we love our days out walking!
The NIP+FAB leg, bust and tummy sets are now only £9.99 which is less than the RRP of just one so product so definitely worth trying out. Of course they're not miracle plastic surgery in a tube, but I think they're good if you're someone who wants to tighten their skin up a little bit after losing weight or just can't shift the last 5lbs so want to feel firmer.
I'm having a good hair day which has put me in a really good mood! Every night I twist my hair and wrap it into a ballerina bun and when I take it out in the morning it has boot loads of volume but can sometimes be a bit too kinky. Blake Lively is my hair twin :D I'm going to try out the spf50 in a mo when I put my make up on, then I'm off to OH's.
Living cheap in central London :rotfl:

Sorry to hear that things are going so badly for you. It must be such a worry. I'm afraid I know only too well how you feel because I'm in the same boat at the moment.:(

I applied on 3rd January to DWP - still waiting to hear. Good job I have some small savings to fall back on. Do they think we can live off fresh air. I really need to start chasing but I just can't face it.......

I feel like burying my head in the sand - I just want it all to go away. I'm not sleeping too well at the moment, chest pains are back too. It's all just another layer of stress that I can do without.

I swear they deliberately make things difficult to try and deter as many people as possible. They probably think If we make them jump through hoops they will give up.

Your blog sounds like a good idea, letting off steam will perhaps help a little.

    Hope things pick up soon.

Must dash someone at the door.

    Chin up, keep fighting.

Evening all! I haven't been around for a few days due to work, parents evening (again!) and general mayhem but I'm back! I must admit that I haven't done very much fabbing and was told this morning that I looked kn*ckered - nice boost to my self esteem at 8am! But the good news is I'm now on half term:j:j

There's lots to be done in my week off fab-wise - eyebrows, nails and general maintainance needs doing desperately. I've also made a hair appointment for Tuesday to sort out the mop (its finally grown and looks like an inbetween mess).

Tomorrow is my first proper day off for what seems like ages and I plan to pop to the shops and buy some nice smellies, a bit of make up and spend an M&S voucher I have. Probably a Trafford Centre trip on the cards, not my favourite place but its all under one roof at least.
I'm working half a day next Thursday doing a half term revision session for the upcoming exams and will get an extra £100 or so in March's pay packet so may even splurge a bit if I see something I fancy.

Food has been pretty bad for me this week too - not enough time or energy to do anything very good, I'm going to write a meal plan and shopping list and get some nice things made now I have a bit of time.

Tonight will be a glass of wine, a nice long soak in the bath and some telly. Hopefully I'll have a good sleep and be ready to relax for a few days ....

    Have a good weekend everyone!

so sorry to hear someone else is having to cope with this. I can well understand it making you feel ill :( I'm swinging between being really angry and feeling on the edge. I wish you luck in your dealings with DWP, they seem to want you to have to fight tooth and nail for everything.
I am due to see counsellor on monday for what should have been my last appointment maybe she can give me some coping tips. Any fabbing will really have to be on the moneysaving side now.

you keep fighting too LL I'm behind you all the way.

    Well a Fab Friday update.
    1. Feel much more positive today than have done all week - a good result there
    2. Friday outfit was my black shoeboots, opaques, my super small size 12 pencil skirt with pleated fishtail detail at the back. It was never worn until this week as it never really fitted me properly when I bought it 6yrs ago, too tight, then too small and wouldn't do up. And I never thought I'd be wearing it for work! Good job pencil skirts never really go out of fashion. Plus a nice bright jade jumper and black wide waist belt.
    3. Fab exercise today with a 9.7 mile run after work. Mega tired now though!
    4. Fab thought for today - until recently I didn't think I would ever run after work on a Friday for this long! Now I really enjoy this run, it empties my head out of work and I get the long run done before the weekend - bonus. Isn't it funny how its how you think about things that changes things really. I changed how I thought about that long Friday run and before I knew it, it wasn't a problem or a burden anymore doing it
Good job it's a day off running tomorrow, think I'll need it!
