  • If it doesn't bother you, what's preventing you from replying to a query about her wellbeing with a simple "My girlfriend is fine, thank you"?

i not disputing anything or my girlfreinds position surely its my choice shes happy calling me her boyfreind

O.K., sorry, your first post indicated otherwise....

I cannot see why would someone argue over the title calling if it wasn't for the significance.

Agree with others who say THE wife rather than your wife is awful, and I hate the missus.
I wouldn't go that far, but mine can be a little annoying sometimes too.

The actual marriage used to be just to tie assets together and tie themselves together in the eyes of God, nowadays you ARE already common law wife/husband if you are together 10 yrs and have children!!!
There is no such legal term as 'common law wife/husband' - completely meaningless in law.

How far are these threads going then?

I could start one 'Have you ever been asked a question by anyone that has annoyed you at any time, EVER!!'

People might just be trying to make conversation, if you talk to them you might make a new friend!

    Happy moneysaving all.

so if you just see her as a girlfriend james - that implies you dont see her as a 'long term relationship'.
You have children with her and still you see her as a girlfriend? Thats insulting to her to say the least!
Sorry Jamespir - I think what I think of you should not be posted on here as it would probably get me chucked off!

I'm interested in what you think unmarried couples should call each other meritaten?

My relationship is into its 9th year. I'm 38, he's 49. We've just taken out an enormous mortgage together and bought our dream house in which we plan to grow old together. We're not married and so we don't refer to each other as husband or wife. We don't like 'partner' because it sounds either businesslike or gay (not that we are homophobes - quite the opposite, we have a lot of gay friends). I prefer 'Lover', but only to see him squirm :p

More often than not he refers to me as 'girlfriend' but you're telling me that I should find that disrespectful? Well I don't, but what do you suggest he calls me?

NB: around here, most people say "how's the other half" which is the safest bet!
You had me at your proper use of "you're".
