Hi ive been told that ive a interview about the work programme in the next 2 weeks, i only get N/Icontrobutions no money at all from jc, what i want to know is from the looks of this thread the wp is a complete waste of time and will offer me very little help if any in my efforts to gain a job,if i sign off before this meeting and being put forward to the wp and then maybe claim again in a few months time. would they place me on work programme or just a new claim dealing with jcentre ?

From 3rd September 2012, JSA claimants in receipt of credits only will be given the option of accessing the Work Programme and taking part on an entirely voluntary basis from their eligible entry point.

I'm at the JC as well this week, I'll see what they say on it as well as writing to the HO of the provider..
you may find the jobcentre backs up the providers bulls**t story. still it doesnt harm asking.

hi thanks for that, so does this mean that if i choose not to attend wp i would not get any further credits, or that i would if i carried out job searches and attended wp.

Sounds just like the 'course' I've just started. I'm currently sat here trying not to look too bored!!!

we got given the afternoon off today but we got given homework. i am getting suspitious of it because some of the stuff we do asks what we are doing to look for work. in the home work we have to list employers we have applied to. it seems like its a sneaky way to try and catch people out.

A voluntary participant on WP means entirely that.
You cannot be mandated to attend or comply with any actions they set.
If you decide not to attend your entitlement to benefit (in your case NI credits) cannot be subject to sanction as this is only applicable to mandated activities.
You may be asked if you want to attend prior to the referral to the provider by the JCP.
Participants in receipt of JSA Credits Only will be
will be given the option of accessing the Work Programme and taking part on an entirely voluntary basis from their eligible entry point.

you would need to sign off before they refered you. so its too late i'm afraid. i know this because my official start date on the form i saw was the date i got refered and not the date of the first appointment. so basically if you signed off and then signed on again within 2 years you would get refered straight back.

obviously they should ensure this is the case for them rather than assuming they dont have to attend.
