    What courses do you want?
anything admin based, that the kind of work I'm looking for. I've recently completed my BTEC ITQ level 2, but that was off my own back with no help at all from the WP.

Before I got ill again I asked them if they could arrange a work placement for me so I could get a recent reference (I've been out of work ever since my marriage broke down due to childcare problems and an ill child) and they couldn't even arrange anything for me. They said they didn't have enough placements for people who were referred to them from the job centre so they couldn't help me.

My health has taken a turn for the worse and I'm currently claiming ESA so at the moment I'm just trying to get better. I'm back at the WP tomorrow, dreading it :(

If you are well enough for an admin based work placement and the WP provider cannot find you one have you looked at volunteering in an admin / IT capacity ?
Apologies if this has been mentioned in an earlier post
    Go to https://www.do-it.org.uk

national site for volunteering. sometimes I worry that the 'notice of interest' you can send does not reach the volunteering organisation. I would suggest linking up with your local volunteer centre as well incase this happens.

Not very knowledgeable about ESA - pretty sure you can undertake volunteering - just check if any restrictions on the amount of time etc

I think quals and even unpaid exp much more valuable than quals by themselves in the jobmarket

    Good luck

i overheard a work programme advisor today say to someone the jobcentre is going to be sanctioning people more often and so are we. should they really be saying stuff like this? i then had to struggle to hold in the laughter when he said the jobcentre doesnt want to sanction people and we dont want to sanction people.

thanks, it's something I've looked into but you can't even give your time away up here. The only volunteering opportunities are in charity shops and even they are quite scarce.

At the moment one of my problems is extreme anxiety, I find meeting new people incredibly stressful so volunteering is out of the question for the time being.

not happy with mine. i am going to have to give up my voluntary work for a month to do a crappy course where you sit in a classroom being taught the bleeding obvious. i have now been told to apply for jobs that i am not qualified for if i happen to have some transferable skills. she claimed its a requirement for the jobs on my job log to be more varied. i should judge whether to apply on whether i think i could do the job rather than the criteria set out by the employer.

An age limit for being on the WP?

There has never been an age limit to it and you can be on it right up to retirement if you are in your 60's and on JSA

they just like to mess people about. if i wasnt doing any voluntary work they would be sending me on a placement doing the kind of thing i'm doing on voluntary work.
wp isnt age limited. anyone claiming jsa, signing on or claiming esa wrag will be sent on it once they have been claiming/signing for a certain amount of time. how soon you get refered onto it is dependant on age.
