  • its something I can't begin to explain

I have the same problem where I live. I cannot explain things. DH was sitting in the lounge late night reading when he called me saying a man with ghost appearance in alarmed state entered our lounge through the solid wall and dresser in one corner in a rush, crossed the lounge, only feet in front of him and exited at the end of the same solid wall through the bookcase! and when DH called me to come and see the thing had disappeared. DH was not scared. We live in a victorian flat. Years after my DH had sighted this, I decided to redecorate the flat. The decorator was an old man who knew the place years before the conversion was done. The decorator started stripping wall paper and he showed me a blocked up door which was the place where the ghost had entered. He told me he there was a second blocked up door, and this was the point where the said ghost had exited.

maybe we should start a ghost story thread, but i dare say it would get hijacked by non believers!

Why not? Those who are open minded and want experiences of people will join in. We do not have to respond to all hijackers; They can start their own anti-ghost thread and see what happens:)

  • This thread has become so interesting!

Personally, I'm not at all concerned about the non-believers. (I posted on page 2 about my just a couple of my 1st encounters with spirits).

I totally get why this is hard to believe - I never ever ever thought the day would come when I would openly declare that I BELIEVE IN GHOSTS!

But I do, and for very good reason. I'm not mad, I know myself pretty well and so do the people who love me, I'm not prone to letting my imagination run away with me, even in the most difficult of times and my feet are very firmly planted on the ground.

The most amazing outcome of my late hubby's appearance was the enormous amount of peace it gave me, in two ways

    1. When he died I could not cope at all with the thought that "that was that". It had always been my firm belief that death was totally the end and after he died I could no longer understand the point of life at all. Immediately following his 1st visit I was suddenly no longer worried about him every single second of the day for months on end, I just KNEW that he was fine exactly where he was, I just KNEW that his only worry was about how I was coping. From that day on I was able to sleep properly again, understanding that although people may leave this physical world they are not totally gone but are safe and secure somewhere else.

    2. I no longer fear death and I am able to talk openly and honestly to my kids about death in the hope that they will never feel the fear of death and pointlessness that I felt for so long.

The non-believers will believe in their own time, either in this wolrd or the next :A

By the way, I am not religious AT ALL and nor do I believe in hell. I have absolutely no explanation for the many things I have seen, heard or felt over the last 7 years but, honestly, I don't need one.

And it feels amazing to be able to say that.

    Night everyone. Sweet dreams :)

Once again, Bless You F McG

I just saw this news article about psychics on TV and how they portray ghosts, which I thought was interesting:

It's really late and I want to go to bed so I won't go into details now but over the years, I have had many, many encounters with spirits, ghost, whatever you want to call them. I've mat them at home and at work and have had DH asking me about things in places we've lived in and DD seeing dead relatives as a very little one. DD's childminder commented one day about DD's absolute conviction about knowing a certain area and house that we had never taken her near.
I have come across echoes of people. We have a ghost who lives with us who we call "Doris" after the lady who owned our house for 50 years and then there is an altogether different entity which we have thankfully not come across for a good 5 years. If that one ever came back, I would have absolutely no qualms in getting a recommended person to come and remove the presence.

I'd be interested in the disbelievers take on this if any of you care to offer a possible explanation...

I grew up in an Edinburgh tenement, we lived on the first floor. When you came in the main door, there was maybe 5 metres of straight passageway in front of you before the stairs started. Just to the right of the foot of the stairs was a stair well, a squarish area. The door to the back green (yard) was here.

This particular tenement was a dark stone affair, none of the nice tiled entrances you sometimes see on tv.

As a kid I was always scared to go in or out. I would walk down the stairs until I got to the last two or three, then jump them and run fast to the door to get out into the street. Some days were worse than others and on the really scary days, I'd ring the bell and get Mum to come down the stairs to get me. Nothing had ever happened so I didn't know why I was scared, I just was.

One day, my pal was with me, we opened the stair door and started to walk forward, I remember talking about being hungry so I think we were going up to ask Mum for food. We got to the bottom of the stairs and then something happened. We both stopped instantly, screamed at the same time and then started running up the stairs as if our lives depended on it. We were terrified. When Mum calmed us down, she made each of us write down what had scared us. We both wrote very similar things. We had both seen a large black hand coming out towards us. It had a black leather glove on, a longish one (almost like a gauntlet but not quite as long). We didn't see a person or anything else, just this gloved hand.

I'd be happy if someone could reasonably explain that.

If I'd been by myself, I perhaps could have put it down to overactive imagination or some other thing, but the two of us reacted together at the same instant. We both were terrified and we both saw the same thing. I've tried for years to come up with a rational explanation but have never been able to.

  • Thank you to all of you who have posted your experiences. I still don't know if I believe in ghosts etc. Even after a couple of experiences myself, I put it down to an over active imagination as I need more proof and hearing other peoples events makes me think maybe there is something in it.

Keep posting and ignore the non believers who ridicule.

    Nice try,
    Eh?
I was comparing unsubstantiated belief for which there is no evidence to unsubstantiated belief for which there is no evidence. ;)
Well why didn't you say so before? :D
I was deliberately extreme, but my point stands that everybody will eventually reach the point where they think 'that's ridiculous, of course that isn't true.'
Yeh OK but "I have difficulty rationalising the experience you relate" would be much more friendly than "thats bollox" n'est pas?
Nobody alive is willing to respect and give credence to every single possible belief that could ever exist.
Oh I agree 100% but lack of respect for the (perhaps misguided in your opinion) person who holds said opinion is a different matter entirely. IMHO, of course.
