If people believe there is a scientific explanation for everything, even those we have yet to find (like the elusive "god particle") is this not also protected under the rules of the forum?
I'm not out to insult anyone but I don't subscribe to the view that certain topics should only be up for discussion by those of a certain persuasion. How much grief would I get here if I started threads here and demanded that only men responded, or that only people of a certain POV responded? When the next !!!!!! debate shows up (I give it a week) would the OP be okay to say that they only want !!!!!! lovers to respond?
If you are not out to insult anyone you are doing a bluddy good job of it Tropez!
and actually - there have been plenty of threads on here asking for pregnant womens views or womens views or mens views.
The thread title says it is about ghosts - if you dont believe - fair enough - but please stop trying to educate us poor stupid believers!
we believe in ghosts and you dont - BUT what is infuriating is that you dont stop at ONE post! you will argue your point and do so with arrogance - as if we are too stupid to understand! then when we fail to take your viewpoint and bow down to your superior knowledge - you get all !!!!y about it!
we believe what we believe - and when we have personal, up close, knowledge of it - we aint gonna listen to your 'scientific' explanation are we? you werent there!0 -

I am yet to read a signgle one of your posts where you don't come off as a holier than thou know it all with no respect for anyone else's opinions but your own. Funny I'm not the only person who's built up that impression either. I keep hoping one day you will say something to change my opinion but it's unlikely.Person_one wrote: »You do realise that none of us actually know anything about each other?
People will form opinions based on the words you write, that is unavoidable on any forum. Basic manners and consideration for others tend to shine through in posts, you get to know 'decent' posters, 'rude' posters from their usernames. Don't be fooled into thinking your anonymity stops people forming opinions of you because it certainly doesn't0 -

Its a discussion forum! It'd be a bit boring if we all agreed all the time and didn't bother debating the finer points!0 -
Too late already done it. Your last line was, however, concerning hallucinations through lack of sleep. With me that occurs at around 03.30 in the morning if I've had to work right through. This was not a lack of sleep situation. I have no explanation for it. Its the one and only time I've ever hads such an experience. I actually have no concrete explanation for it neither do I have any concrete reason to dismiss it. Its this dichotomy which is disconcerting.
Cheers
Hehe, well thank you.
Well, obviously, knowing a little more about your working situation I'd be less inclined to believe it was a lack of sleep. Given that I work shifts, and erratic shifts at that, although I know it is doing me no good and I appreciate the evidence to support that it's not "healthy", I know I don't hallucinate. When I get very tired though I am more prone to "hearing things".
Given a "normal" working day though, someone who stayed up until 2am regularly and was possibly only getting 4/5 hours of sleep per night would be more likely to hallucinate. Of course, some people can somehow survive on that (no idea how! :rotfl:).
I can understand why it is disconcerting. I mentioned earlier in the thread that I had the dubious honour of witnessing an inanimate object push a glass off a table once. I was actually a kid when that happened, and it was during a sleepover so I have a witness to it. Obviously at the time, I was rather freaked out - as I grew up though and looked more into things, scientific explanations just started making more sense, especially as we are able to explain more and more things that previously were put down to being the work of evil spirits, demons or what have you.
I guess the main point for me is though why would any sort of ghost or unearthly spirit scare the crap out of a couple of kids and then never do anything ever again?
Incidentally, my witness to this, to this day, believes it was the work of the supernatural but he's never experienced anything again either.
Oh and by the way, just to quickly clear something up - in another post I mentioned something about people being attuned to the spirit world and seemingly knowing how everything works; that wasn't meant to refer to you, though having read it back I can see it could be taken that way.

I do like Douglas Adam's concept of bored rich aliens who visit Earthlings in fields and make funny noises to freak them out a bit for a laugh. :rotfl:0 -

You can feel free to form whatever opinion you wish to of the user name Person_one.
Part of the enjoyment of coming on internet forums is that you can be more forthright and discuss stuff in a heated way you can't in real life.0 -
To add, I don't think anyone is particularly annoyed by debate as such, it's more the way that their ideas and beliefs have been rubbished and mocked. People accused of hallucinating etc.
If posters said "well ok that's fine, but I believe...." rather than "that's nonsense!" a more balanced debate would certainly ensue.0 -

I have never, once, referred to anybody as stupid on this thread, nor have I made any suggestion that anyone is stupid for believeing in ghosts. I have never even said that I wished to educate people; I have instead offered my own opinions.
You're the one getting !!!!y about things; you are the one telling me I am not allowed to post on this thread because I don't happen to believe in ghosts - in fact, for someone who rummages through stranger's medicine cabinets, you are the one who is taking the most self-righteous position here!
I have responded to people who have shown an interest in discussing what I have said. I have not attacked anyone's point of view. I have not responded to every single person on this thread who has stated they believe in ghosts - in fact, I haven't responded to the vast majority of people who have recounted their ghost encounters.0 -

See, I don't understand why suggesting that a 'visit' was a hallucination of sorts is seen as an 'accusation'. Its not the same as saying you're lying, or you made it up, hallucinations are very common and having them doesn't say anything about you as a person.
Its offering a possible explanation, not an accusation of anything.0 -
I'm watching Ghostbusters! Did you know they're in discussions about bringing out a third one.0
