If posters said "well ok that's fine, but I believe...." rather than "that's nonsense!" a more balanced debate would certainly ensue.
Everybody has their line though.
Would you be so respectful of someone who thought their cat was in love with them? Or that David Cameron is actually possessed by the devil? (ok bad example...)0 -

As one of the people who brought up the possibility of hallucination, I feel it necessary to say that in the first instance it was brought up amongst a list of possibilities for someone having seen something that had been dismissed in an entirely different fashion. I don't feel it unjustified to point out it is a possibility, amongst several other things on what was an admittedly an incomplete list.
I certainly wouldn't mock someone and laugh off their experiences as an hallucination. Even if it were an hallucination, that can be a truly terrifying or otherwise unsettling experience and as someone who has a family member with mental health issues, who would regularly see all sorts of things coming out of the walls, I would never mockingly refer to someone as hallucinating.0 -

Nice try, but I was comparing unsubstantiated belief for which there is no evidence to unsubstantiated belief for which there is no evidence.
I was deliberately extreme, but my point stands that everybody will eventually reach the point where they think 'that's ridiculous, of course that isn't true.' Nobody alive is willing to respect and give credence to every single possible belief that could ever exist.0 -
I have never, once, referred to anybody as stupid on this thread, nor have I made any suggestion that anyone is stupid for believeing in ghosts. I have never even said that I wished to educate people; I have instead offered my own opinions.
You're the one getting !!!!y about things; you are the one telling me I am not allowed to post on this thread because I don't happen to believe in ghosts - in fact, for someone who rummages through stranger's medicine cabinets, you are the one who is taking the most self-righteous position here!
I have responded to people who have shown an interest in discussing what I have said. I have not attacked anyone's point of view. I have not responded to every single person on this thread who has stated they believe in ghosts - in fact, I haven't responded to the vast majority of people who have recounted their ghost encounters.
You have a most unhealthy interest in my past posts Tropez! in fact I would go so far as to say its bordering on stalking! I really think that I should put you on ignore - but I cant be bothered. say what you like.0 -
What a shame. I was really enjoying reading people's experiences and stories.0

This isn't a ghost story as such but is one the lines of it, anyway a couple of months ago I had a really vivid dream about my sil, I was hovering for a better word beside her when she was having an ultrasound and my nan in law was behind me (she's been dead for five years) and turned round to me and said tell sil that everythings going to be ok and that she's going to have a healthy baby this Time.
I told hubby who thought it was a weird dream, and I phoned up mil the next afternoon and mentioned my dream and mil went really quiet and asked how the hell did I know as sil had gone in for a viability scan that morning and had told no one that she was pregnant. (Sil has had four mcs in the last two years, and as far as anyone was concerned she was going to be sterlised, so I had no reason to have that dream at all). Not sure why I had the dream but was spot on with the room and the clothes sil was wearing0 -

Stalking? Because I happened to remember something you said on a thread a few weeks ago that I responded to?
I was unaware that being able to recall things from the past was considered to be stalking behaviour. My apologies.0 -

Bill Murray is refusing to do it at the moment as he doesn't think people would pay to see old fat people run after ghosts.
What I would love to be made is a sequel to beetlejuice!0
