That's not very fair. I actually responded to the person saying it was bollox with a rather length, and possibly quite boring post, in which I gave a number of scientific possibilities for your experiences. I recall we even discussed some of these to a small extent.

Considering that I've since been told that the reason my loved ones don't come back from the grave to comfort me is that I'm too negative, I'm perfectly happy to stand by my 'bo**ocks' comment. I believe that story to be bo**ocks and my belief is just as sincere and deeply as anybody else's belief in ghosts so according to many on this thread should be respected just as much!

The second story is very easily explained but that again is the difference between skeptics and believers in ghosts. The skeptic is happy with the far more probable, concrete, earthly explanation of a BT test. The believer refuses to even contemplate the possibility of a mundane coincidence being a likely cause of their 'experience.'

THIS always seems to happen with any thread on ghosts, or anything to do with the supernatural! it degenerates into people defending thier position. Why? because people who do NOT believe have to stick their oar in and INSULT people who do believe and want to share or discuss thier experiences! which you cannot do when people butt in and insist you are either mistaken, deluded or a complete idiot who doesnt understand science!
Its NOTHING to do with science!!!!!! its to do with belief - and under the rules of the forum - if people believe in something then others have NO right to ridicule them for it!
SO, if you dont believe in ghosts and have nothing to contribute to this thread - BU99ER OFF!!!

Maybe if the OP just wanted to share ghost stories she should have selected her thread title more carefully, or gone to a more specific forum.

This one's actually supposed to be about moneysaving! ;)

Yes you are correct and I'm sorry if I have offended you but the comment wasn't directed at you. Did I thank you for your post? Can't remember, I'll go back and do so if I didn't.

    Cheers

I can certainly see where you're coming from with regards to the comments about being negative and not being visited because of that. I think even if I weren't a sceptic, I would not be inclined to accept such an explanation and I think the truth is that aside from one or two people who seem to have some deep attunement to the spirit world and know exactly how it works, even the believers wouldn't be able to tell you why they were visited.

If people believe there is a scientific explanation for everything, even those we have yet to find (like the elusive "god particle") is this not also protected under the rules of the forum?

I'm not out to insult anyone but I don't subscribe to the view that certain topics should only be up for discussion by those of a certain persuasion. How much grief would I get here if I started threads here and demanded that only men responded, or that only people of a certain POV responded? When the next !!!!!! debate shows up (I give it a week) would the OP be okay to say that they only want !!!!!! lovers to respond?

Well, everything 'nasty' about MSE is displayed on this thread for all to see. Trolling, belittlement, ridicule, rudeness, insults etc.

Some folk should be really proud of themselves for such a disgraceful display.

No, not offended at all. It's been a long discussion, I don't expect everyone to remember everything (I had to go back and check what it was I actually said :D).

Don't worry about thanking me. I'm very hit and miss when it comes to remembering to thank people.

And to top it off, the MSE staple of the self appointed forum police chastising the naughty children!
