Seller asking me to pay more for a BIN - help please

Hello, I bought an item on BIN during the weekend, thought it looked something of a bargain. However, today the seller, despite having sent me a 'thanks for paying' and a 'dispatched' email yesterday, is now telling me that it was incorrectly priced and do I want to cancel the purchase or pay the difference. Just wondered whether they are allowed to do that once the transaction has been completed? Thanks for any advice anyone can offer.

If you payed the displayed price and postage then that is all you need to pay. If he made a mistake and has already posted it then it's his tough luck, if he hasn't then you may want to mutally cancel the transaction.

  • I wouldn't have thought they could do this ..especially if you have already paid and the item has been dispatched!!

It is their fault if they have in correctly listed the price and they should have checked either before listing or at least noticed it when you bought it to let you know before you paid!

Hopefully someone with more knowledge will come and help ..but im pretty sure they can't do this!

Although they marked it as dispatched, I'm guessing it probably hasn't actually gone into the post system yet.

I'm replying to say that they've told me it was dispatched and have left me feedback (didn't mention that in first post), so I want it at the price paid and that I think it is in breach of ebay rules to ask me to pay more now. See what they say.
  • What is the item and how much are we talking? If it was clear the product was mis-priced then there may not be a contract in place.

Also the seller will weigh the cost of the hassle against the money, for an extra fiver they should send and suffer the loss, for £100, I'd take the neg personally.

No they shouldn't but there's not really a lot you can do to make them sell at the price you paid.
I would refuse a cancellation & open an INR.
    You can then leave FB.

Hermum is spot on. You can't make them send your goods so if they haven't already been sent then they will probably just refund you. In that instance refuse a mutual and leave feedback as you feel appropriate.

However if item actually has been sent then they can't force you to pay more either.

  • So would the two of you above do the same if the sum of money was large? I find it surprising that advice is given without knowing the full picture.

Ideally this wouldn't happen, but it does and even the big companies do it from time to time, and whist a seller should honour a sale, I personally wouldn't feel comfortable giving someone grief over a certain amount of money.

If it's a few quid then I would expect them to honour the sale, if it's a proportionality large sum I would accept mistakes happen and let it go.

I'm not sure what you're asking.
If it's would I refuse to sell, then no I wouldn't. If I made a mistake I would honour the deal.
I would like to think that if I was selling something really expensive that I would make sure the listing was correct before putting it on.
Often on auction things have gone for less than I hoped they would, I've always sold at that price. After all that's what it was worth on that day.

If you're asking if I would refuse a cancellation & leave a neg, then yes I would, regardless of how much it had sold for.

I don't see what value has to do with this?

Seller has claimed money and alledgedly sent the parcel- are you honestly suggesting buyer should stump up more money?

I have already said that if parcel hasn't been sent then buyer cannot force the seller to send it.

Oh, and if I were the seller then I woudl kick myself a e few times and send the goods- I wouldn't go whining to a buyer about having made a mistake.

  • "are you honestly suggesting buyer should stump up more money?"

What happens when there is an Amazon misprice? They cancel orders and offer that you reorder at the correct price.

"I woudl kick myself a e few times and send the goods- I wouldn't go whining to a buyer about having made a mistake. "

" If it's would I refuse to sell, then no I wouldn't. If I made a mistake I would honour the deal. "

Very nice of the two of you, but I've seen posts on eBay boards where we are taking hundreds of pounds and in that case it's simply a business decision whether take the neg. If you honour the deal the chances of retaining a customer on eBay are slim so you've been nice, decent, honest, or whatever you want to call it, but lost out.

Everyone has their price, not sure what mine is as it hasn't happened yet (hopefully never will), I will go far for buyers and will take a loss over my mistakes but there is a point where I would refund and take the neg.

However as a buyer I would feel guilty attempting to force a small seller to take a large loss. OP says it seems a bargain, as I said, if it's a few quid the seller shoud send, if it was 9.99 instead of 99.99 personally I think we should all accept sometimes mistakes happen and let it go.
