Lol you must lead a fairly boring/sheltered life if you think knowing of one pub landlady & knowing one member of her staff is excessive!
And the people who told you about the incident when you arrived as well as the "reliable sources" you keep referring to and the 50 year old and his wife!0 -

Why on earth does he need to use such offensive language?? It sounds like that's normal for him.
And why was he on Facebook while in the pub?
And why does his mother think there's nothing wrong with this language?0 -
Sounds to me like someone got a bit too big for their boots!
In all seriousness though, the OP's son was not hurt, is it really worth all the fuss?!0 -

Took 4 reads of your post before I worked out what you meant. People might understand you a little better if you try a bit harder to be literate. Typos are one thing, but using the wrong word completely is less than helpful
I knew exactly what cheepskate meant, when they said leant instead of taught, and most others probably did, to you maybe its the wrong word, and indeed it is but, it depends where you were brought up. Up north that was what was said to you (learnt) so it stayed with you for years as as custom and practice, till you learned that it wasnt the case. I cant see why it took you four times before the meaning became clear.
As was said, no English lesson was required. I always think it's pretty rude to be honest to pick up on trivial mistakes.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

I sure in the MSE Arms there is a thread about pub etiquette. I've drunk (and been drunk) in every type of pub. By far the worst ones are usually estate type pubs frequented by a local clientele that never go anywhere else and by default perceive the local as their pub. There is usually a local loudmouthed hardman and his presence attracts admirers and everything that goes with that. Police tend to avoid these kind of places except when they attract underage drinkers, open illegal drug dealing & use, too much violence etc. The police will usually only intervene if the activities within the pub are having an adverse impact on the surrounding community. Lastly it is notoriously difficult to get witness statements from customers that can be used in court.0

Got one of those pubs on the estate I live
'Big fish in a small pond' syndrome
Most of them wouldn't last 2 minutes away from this estate
They are the kind of men who, when it is the World Cup all stand outside the pub with their shirts off and England flags tied round their necks like capes

Gosh....what a thread!! Haven't read everything, and clearly its your sons decision what to do, what I would say is this though - there are far worse situations that happen every day all around this country that result in a lot more than a bit of a scuffle. I would count your son lucky that all that happened was this, and hope he has learnt a lesson that its best to be the bigger person and just walk away, what ever your age.Little Man born 11 March 2012 :smileyhea

i am completley shocked about most responses overt this and JenJo7 would be so frustrated ith the responses apathy! it is not acceptable to speak to ppl like that regardless ho old they are... or their weight so no i doubt a young man could stand his own to a 50 yr old intinidating male like an earlier comment has suggested...
why this is his fault for writing on facebook completley baffles me..
i would suggest making a complaint regarding the police officer. totally unacceptable, please remember they have a responsibility to the community and second you pay tax...
the other comment that they could be dealing with something 'more serious' would soon disappear i feel if they aggression and police response was directed at them.£4000 total debt... no savings debt free by September 2012!!!!:eek:0 -
OP I honestly do understand where you're coming from as I too would be protective of my son BUT tbh I think he got off quite lightly.I never understand the whole "updating facebook statuses whilst out" thing anyway but round here where I live if most of the wannabe hard nuts had seen they'd been called a fat c*** by your son he'd have got way more than lifted from his chair.
It's pathetic,it's wrong but a fact of life these days.Slightly mad mummy to four kidlets aged 4 months,6,7 and 8:D:D xx
