Do you really think that 50 year olds drink more than 21 year olds, are fitter than men less than half their age and are stronger for being grossly overweight?

If that's the case, perhaps the army should change their recruitment policy!
Oh !!!!!!, There are plenty of 50 year old +'s round here which would intimidate the hell out of me, no matter what age I was.

When you are in a corner and have to fight, it may be a different matter, but intimidation isn't about last resort violence.

21 year olds may not be boys, but they are often not used to massive blokes poking them in the chest and telling them that they will "sort them out" either.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.

This guy is one of the Phil Mitchells of this world and certainly uses his bulk and appearanceto intimidate....I have seen him in action before.

I have not read all the reply's but this bit sticks out.

If this is the case , then you have not learnt your son who he has to back down to,and not escalate things with these people unless he himself is going to back it up.

All through life, most people(well apart from nutters or those with huge families to back them up) will have to weigh up whether we back down or not.

Not right , but just life

I'm in my mid-30s, married with a child, and my mother would batter me if I even thought about using the 'c' word.

Why on earth does he need to use such offensive language?? It sounds like that's normal for him. :o

And why was he on Facebook while in the pub?

Rough pub, rough landlady, rough customers. If the son can't cope with a rough drinker he needs to stay away from them.

Every bloke needs a 'run in' at some point in his life as part of the learning curve. Fortunately he managed to walk away from it unscathed, and im sure he will have learnt from this episode

at 21, he doesn't need his hand being held by his mum

Took 4 reads of your post before I worked out what you meant. People might understand you a little better if you try a bit harder to be literate. Typos are one thing, but using the wrong word completely is less than helpful ;)

Perhaps Bettys Tea Rooms would be a more suitable watering hole for him?

The incident will do the lad good in the long run, the world is full of people with a penchant for casual violence and thuggery and the sooner your son learns to read a situation and react accordingly. all the better.
