Hi CRICKETWIDOW,posted above your post!0

it depends on what form of diabetes you have. If u have Type 1 diabetes then you deserve freebies etc but if you have Type 2 (which is you OWN FAULT) then you deserve nothing, not even NHS help in my opinion.
Not all type 2 is self inflicted. Water on the brain can damage the pituitary gland and trigger diabetes ...any damage to it can.
Every diabetic nurse or dietician I have spoken to has said that diabetics should avoid 'diabetic' food it's full of artificial additives some of which have laxative properties. A good healthy diet is recommended.0 -

I am apalled at some of the posts in this thread. How can anyone say that someone deserves to have an illness?! Someone started this thread looking for freebies, which is what this forum is about. Instead they and other moneysavers have been bombarded with hate. I feel so angry and upset at what people have said I can't even express how I feel, but I had to write something. Shame on all you who wrote such awful things.0

I have an Accu-Chek Aviva and got a free package from the manufacturer called Accu-Chek Compass that allows you to download and analyse the results from your meter to your PC.
You can then run numerous reports showing your blood sugar control over selected periods of time. The package includes an infra red USB device compatible with the blood test machine (I didn't even know it could do that!).
All I did was phone up Accu-Chek on 0800 701 000 and ask for it and they sent it within a month (I think I had to quote the serial number off the back of my meter or something). It's helped me a lot to improve my control so I was very grateful to receive it. Admittedly they want to please diabetics so that we'll keep using their products and the NHS will continue to pay the extortionate prices for them but I won't complain!

End of argument. Its a principle, and should be a central tenet of the NHS.
What I'm saying might seem a bit extreme now in february 2007, but you can bet your life it will be standard in a few years. It really will be.
I'm now off down the gym for the third time this week. Fingers crossed it might be possible in the future to get a national insurance/tax rebate for looking after myself all these years.....weeeeell I can dream :rotfl:
