it is disgusting to think that anybody has bought on an illness themselves and to say they do not deserve freebies is stupid, supposedly no one in your family riffs have ever had an illness??? i.e heart attack, cancer, kidney disease etc, my mom died of kidney failure and cancer, did she smoke or drink no she didn't but it didn't stop her getting it, so you have the perfect family no smokers, drinkers, and ALL at the correct weight AMAZING

    Hi
Didn't actually read the whole topic but my husband has diabetes type I since childhood and he's got life membership at DiabetesUK and they send him their magazine and there's often pretty good freebies appear - mostly related to diabetes like for example for the last 3 months he had 2 free monitors Accu check aviva and another one of the new brands can't remember - one of them is pretty good as you don't have to !!!!! your finger it's actually possible to get sample from other places which helps sometimes. So I'll keep an eye on them for you guys.

    From your post:
And anyhow when you have diabetes, weightloss is a symptom *shrug*

Not true. I've had type 1 diabetes for 20 years (since I was 5) and at the moment I'm having trouble keeping the weight off. Mind you, good home cooking (read: generous portions) and a desk job will do that to anybody :) I've certainly never been underweight.
  • "....it depends on what form of diabetes you have. If u have Type 1 diabetes then you deserve freebies etc but if you have Type 2 (which is you OWN FAULT) then you deserve nothing, not even NHS help in my opinion...." quote by Riffs

How dare you make such a ignorant and pathetic statement such as this Riffs. Oh how very wrong you are, Im all for freedom of speech however some people use that an excuse just to be offensive and expect it to be acceptable....Im sure you have just said this to be controversial and create animosity, hope you gained the response you wanted.....I am renal nurse and also a diabetes link nurse and it runs in my family, I have a fair bit of knowledge about the condition and its NUMEROUS causes. Karma/fate works in mysterious ways, lets hope you dont develop diabetes, by the sounds of your temperament, you may be a little hypoglycaemic xxx

  • Riffs, Ive just had a look at your posts, most of them are offensive, nasty arrogant and highly judgemental, are you just a bully or what? I take it puting people down is just your way of making yourself feel better about yourself, sad really.

Thanks guys for showing we are not all "average." I decided to ignore the ignorance of ignorant people.

As if people who have had a condition for years will learn from someone who skims the internet for stats!!

Have they bothered to learn weight gain can be another symptom of diabetes? It's pretty much an open book, like many illnesses/diseases/conditions. No one wants to have any type of condition and it is not their fault.

If we were all non smokers, of correct weight, drank alcohol within guidelines, & lived a healthy life style we would all avoid diabetes?
