Can I switch from an Intelligent Finance account?

Yes you can, I have just done so and been accepted, went into the branch yesterday with the I.D. they required and the £100. cheque, the papers signed and am waiting for the welcome pack and switching details, went online yesterday and registered for online banking, need to wait for my password through the post.

Halifax and I.F. whilst having the same parent company are totally independent companies, I asked the specific question when I applied on the phone on Monday.

Just out of interest how long does it take to get all the DD's transferred over.?

I'm switching from Barclays to Halifax and went in branch yestreday to do all the neccessaries..

  • After all my concerns the two prefilled switching forms arrived today. There's a box to tick on the transfer form if you do not want any credits into your old account to be transferred into the Halifax account (then don't need to fill in the other form). Hence you can still continue to have your salary paid into your old account. Intend to credit £1000 into the Halifax by setting up a standing order from my main Abbey account and once the transfer is complete close the A & L account.

  • Further to your recommendation re switching banks, I have had no end of trouble trying to transfer to Halifax. In the end, i told them i didn't want anything to do with them.

Firstly, then set up my account twice. When i rang them, they said i hadn't set up an account but i spent 15 minutes on the phone to a guy doing this. The lady then re-took my details but it seems they have duplicated. Now they send 2 letters each time requesting a signed form & proof of identity but they already sent me a letter acknowledging they had received all this!

I put £100 in the new account whilst i thought all was ok. They stated this was in but then deleted it & it hasn't been refunded. So they have £100 of my money which i have said i want them to find it & refund me.

I told them to close the account as i have never had so much incompetence in my life. Even their chap said that it was the worst case he had seen but i bet there are many more.

Online banking is now set up and I have a balance of £100. Do I still need to phone the activation team to tell them it is there? Or can I just fill in the switching forms on the halifax website and send them off.

I received the letter from the activation team requesting me to deposit £100 into the account so that a debit card could then be issued and the letter also said to inform them when this was done otherwise they would not continue with the bank transfer process. So to be on the safe side I would phone & inform them that £100 has been deposited and to continue with the transfer process. Hopefully in a week's time the transfer forms will be posted to you. If you are impatient there's probably no harm in downloading and sending the completed forms or going to your local branch to complete the transfer - but having read Timmy1 above you might cause untold trouble for yourself & duplicate the process:eek:

Yes, you can, but time might not be on your side to get everything up and running, but you can always give it a go.

It depends - on how many dd's there are to transfer. It is relying on timescales from your existing bank and the direct debit companies, which is why you will be told 4-5 weeks, but it may be quicker
