Can I just set up a payment from my current bank for £100 to the sort code and account number stated on the welcome letter and use the roll code as the reference?

I also assumed we would be allocated to our local branch but we have been allocated to necastle and Mexborough !

Yes you can send the money from your existing bank but this could take 3 working days. whereas £100 in branch is instant - up to you though

It doesn't matter about branches on these accounts - you can run them anywhere

I've just spoken to a member of the Transfers team who went through the application process for the Ultimate reward as I'll make good use of teh benefits.Did a credit check there and then and was accepted straight away luckily.
I now need to go into my local branch to open the account.

Anyone know what I'll need to take with me?
I know 2 forms of ID ,but will a cheque for the £100 do?
Also will I need to take a list of all the DD's & SO's that will need transferring or do they really "do everything " in transferring it all over..?

    Cheers for the advice

as moonbeam says - but also sort code and account number of your existing bank you are transfering from

    Many thanks..

  • I've received my cheque book, debit card and able to access the account online. Do I have to fill in & return the downloadable forms regarding switching bank accounts and transferring standing orders, etc from my current A&L account to Halifax (to qualify for the £100) or will Halifax send me the forms in due course.
  • The morons at the LTSB call centre have finally pushed me over the edge. So time to jump ship and take advantage of this £100 offer.

Just one problem. Trying to use the online banking demo and find it is only compatible with IE v5.5 - 6.0 or Firefox v1.0.

Pretty sloppy stuff, but something that I assume is just a quirk of the demo? It sound absurd that users should have to down grade from the current release of either browser to bank online.

It's something I certainly would not be willing to do. Is anybody able to confirm that my assumption is correct?
  • Had no problems using IE browser version 7.0 for accessing my Halifax online account. Mind you I haven't had any reason to use the online banking demo so when I just tried it was very surprised to discover that you do indeed need to downgrade browser to IE v5.5 - 6.0. Strange.........

Since switching is optional (unless you want the £100, in which case it's essential :D), you ought to take a proactive approach.

Personally, I'm going to branch to complete the transfer forms.
  • Read on a earlier thread that the £100 could easily be withdrawn at any time (if it proves too popular !?) so agree it might be best to pop into a branch with completed transfer forms dowloaded from the Halifax site
  • I thought I was worrying over nothing, thanks for setting my mind to rest Malcolm.

Application has now been lodged and I look forward to live internet banking using IE7.0 soon.

I wouldn't even bother printing them out.

Just take your sort code and account number (debit card should suffice) for the 'Bank Account Transfer Form' and, if you're switching your salary, your employers name and address and your payroll number for the 'Credit Details Instruction Form'.
