I originally applied online - heard nothing so called Halifax after a week to chase up my application. They had no record of it. I went through the application again on the phone after confirming that no credit search had been completed for my non-existent online application and was accepted straight away.

It seems that the Halifax online application system just cannot cope. Anyone still waiting may want to give them a call (use the callback option available on the website so you don't have to pay for an 0845 call).
  • Sarah - this 'disappearing' of accounts can happen if you apply on the phone too. My DH and I applied on the phone for accounts on the same day. His was accepted straight away but mine went for a 'human' decision and a week later I'd heard no more so I phoned again. They apologised profusely and took me through the application process again and this time I was accepted straight away.
I think they must be innundated with applications at the mo as £200 per couple is a lot of cash.
  • Can I switch from an Intelligent Finance account?
  • no sorry brassmonkey, as they are part of HBOS

Had a letter to say my account has been opened and to pay in £100 so that my debit card can be sent out.

Had a seperate letter to say pay in £100 in 14 days and to let them know when this is done.

Can I just set up a payment from my current bank for £100 to the sort code and account number stated on the welcome letter and use the roll code as the reference?

The online banking has also been set up smoothly.

My partner on the other hand hasn't received anything for online banking or the transfer, only the confirmation of account opening.

I also assumed we would be allocated to our local branch but we have been allocated to necastle and Mexborough !
  • Hi

Do you need to have a minimum salary? I am self-employed. Would this be a prob?
Can the £1000 be funded from another Halifax current account (my husband's)?

    Thank you.

I've just spoken to a member of the Transfers team who went through the application process for the Ultimate reward as I'll make good use of teh benefits.Did a credit check there and then and was accepted straight away luckily.
I now need to go into my local branch to open the account.

Anyone know what I'll need to take with me?
I know 2 forms of ID ,but will a cheque for the £100 do?
Also will I need to take a list of all the DD's & SO's that will need transferring or do they really "do everything " in transferring it all over..?

    Cheers for the advice

  • I have a HSBC account that I switched from when I opened an Alliance & Leicester account. I kept the HSBC account open although there isn't a lot going on there nowadays as the A&L is now my main account. I still have a couple of small DDs in the HSBC account. I guess I can switch the HSBC DDs to the Halifax account, pay in £1K per month from my A&L account for 2 or 3 months, collect £100 and then whatever I feel like doing after then? I'll still keep my salary going into the A&L as that has a 0% overdraft for the next 9 months and keep the HSBC open as I have a long history with them.
Would this satisfy all the conditions?

Two forms of ID required - one name e.g. passport, and one address e.g. driving licence/utility bill

Don't need a list of the S/O's & D/D's the bank will ask you to sign a form giving them permission to get these details from your existing bank.

Can take the £100 in a cheque or just use the ATM at the branch and pay cash straight in...:D
