    Hi pap

At your young age I don't think there is any danger of getting stuck. You know what you want from a job so go ahead and apply for ones that appeal to you.

Remember the application is only the start of the process, if you get an interview for a job that is a chance for you to see the place, sample the atmosphere, and think more about whether it is really what you want to do. You can always say you've changed your mind if you feel it is not for you after all.

Some people seem very focussed from early on and know what they want to do but I'm sure most of us just go with the flow. I'm very lucky that I have now got a career doing work I love but I spent several years doing all sorts of temporary jobs in different areas first. My OH is the opposite, he did the same kind of work until his late 40s when the industry he worked in changed, now he does different kinds of work and is discovering talents and interests he never knew he had.

You are at the start of your working life so you have the opportunity to try out different things. Don't get too bogged down in soul-searching.

Pap, you wont upset people on here if you make the wrong decision. We will be sympathetic towards you. I think you are confused because you are afraid of upsetting people. Just put all that to one side. Forget about other people. Its yourself you want to please. What do you want to do? The working with old people seems to be drawing you and you said yourself its your ultimate dream. If you have a chance to do that now then why not go for that? I think once again you have to be selfish and follow your own desires. All of these people that you are afraid of upsetting have not got to live your life; you have. Therefore it should be as happy as you can make it. You could try the working with old people and if you dont like it youre still very young and there's plenty of chance to try something else.

I am really confussed, and i think if i take the wrong choice i will upset many on here and in real life.

You'll only upset people if you give up and roll over.

  • thanks sea (you still have that light on :naughty:) and tes... i really dont know what to do at all... i really dont, its a shame really as i know i am better than where i am now, but i guess its one of those things... i will apply to this job i have found and see what happens... if i am not called for an interview i have no idea what i will do :o its just one of those things i guess... i am still going for my savings target but i am no longer doing my gcse so i will write to my employees informing them of that and finally i can probably get some peace from all the people that disagree within work...
  • i am back :o see i bet you didnt think this thread would stay 'dead' for long :rotfl:

I have a bit of a dilemma my paypal balance is sitting at £200.77 yet my ebay fees are £26.31. I pay through direct debit and i have a terible feeling that they will try and get the money monday, this will not be possible as both accounts are overdrawn, and one just has enough in thre to cover the charge when they decide to take it . Now do i pay the fees using the paypal money or do i chance it that they wont take them till i get paid... but they still havent be budgetted for so i am already £27 down in my budget  I also have another 22 items to list on tuesday which will then inccur more fees

hey pap, as far as the ebay fees go I'd pay them from paypal, I know it reduces your total but your budget is already fairly tight without having to find another £20odds from it.

the career, meh I'm 25 have no idea what I want to do which is why I work in the gym. It's very good fun, covers the mortgage and there are always lots of hot guys to look at....but there sure ain't enough money in it to make me want to make a career out of it. The way I see it at 25 I should be having fun out of life, there is plenty time to be grown up and responsible when I'm old :p
  • pap, I work with people aged between 30 & 60 who are all 'just doing this till I figure out what I really want to do' - and that includes the Chief Exec!

Do what YOU want to do, stuff everyone else. that's what I intend to do - as soon as I work out what it is  . That's why I'm so focused on paying off my debts.

    Good luck!

Oh, and I agree with LJ, pay off the ebay with paypal.

Good advice about the fees. Im surprised that your bank havent already taken your charges. My bank usually wastes no time about that :(. As for the job, well the way I see it is that if you go for the domestic job it will be ideal because you will be finding out at a relatively young age if your dream is all it is cracked up to be plus you will be doing an NVQ. You will probably get lots of exercise in a job like that so it will help your diet. If you find that you dont like working with old people as much as you thought then you can leave and go all out for the admin job. You can still be saving as well as doing this.

If you dont get the job, how about working as a carer? There are always loads of these jobs in our local paper. A friend of mine works doing this. She visits old people in their homes and sees to all their needs. She loves it but I think you have to be a certain kind of person to want to do this job hence the many vacancies. The only drawback is that you would need transport and its paid by hourly rate not that well, although you would be in great demand. She worked over Christmas but didnt mind as she was only out a couple of hours each day. However, its early days yet, so wait and see if you have got the other job.

You could try for the admin work at any time. I think to be at an advantage you would need to do some kind of wordprocessing course at the college and gain as many secretarial skills as you can, so shorthand would be an advantage. As I said before you have to dress smart and be well groomed to get anywhere. If you want to be a receptionist it doesnt matter so much about your size as having nice hair and nails, nice clothes, smelling nice and a pleasant disposition. A nice smile goes down well and politeness.

I hope this helps a little bit. :)

  • thanks lynsay, brenda and tes about the ebay fees... will go and pay them now icon_smile.gif

lynsay, your last comment is exactly where i am, although i hate my job i find it great as it pays my bills allows me to save and i have no worrys/stress but i dont know i feel people think that i should be aiming for more... but at 21 i dont want to make life changing decisions, i know i can change but i dont want to be someone who is chnging jobs every 2 years...

auntie brenda, another pengiun lover icon_smile.gif lol at your chief exec, i think i am going to do just that, the problem is i need confidance and i feel if i get a job in anything i will still have that barier there... i know i am strange to understand

tes, i dont know why they havent either, it happened thursday (or was it wednesday) and i got the letter friday but it isnt showing but i may be the weekend, i am sending the letter monday anyways but i dont want to send it unless they put it on ~ if that makes sense. Well i have filled in the forms and will post them on monday and see what happens... i must admit though working fulltime with them instead of just visiting them/making them tea/helping shopping may be very different but as you said i can try it and find out...

i have looked into caring roles, there is always disabled young people advertised in our paper but thats transport issues... i will keep my mind open though. I dont know if i am that type of person (your friend sounds like it) but again i can only say no if i have tried it.

Yes people will always need admin workers but my size is putting me off, i thik once i takle my inhabitions and my worrys and ultimatly my confidance i can apply for these roles. And no one will beat a smile like mine :rotfl: cafc girl has shown me how for a very small amount i can make myself look like a girl rather than a bloke so for the time being most of my me money will be spent on clothes... once i feel i look good and i am proud of myself i feel i can pull of interviews more easily...

i think i am just hitting the same barriers and i need to break those down... they will take time but i will get there and in a few months time i will be typing here about how my new job is going and how i have spent x amount of shoes/clothes and how i am sociallisieing more... i will get there in time icon_smile.gif

pap, you're not as strange as you think...... quick vote peeps......

Option 1 - Left hand up all those who think they are great at their job?
Option 2 - Right hand up those who think they fluked their way into their job and are just waiting to be found out?

Right hand for me :o , even after 2 promotions in 6 years (or shoudl that be especially after 2 promotions.......)
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
