  • well thats it, i am going part time :j i know people will say i am not a sticker, they pushed me into asking for full time hours 8 months ago, but my health/well being/life is more important than working for that company. And also its my life and so what i will be looked down upon but i dint care. From the 7/2005 i was working 30 hours per week, then from the 8/2006 i have been working full time at 39 hours per week. I dont know how ever what to drop to, 20 hours per week will cover all my essentail bills (not including driving lessons) and give me roughly £150.00 spare. Whereas 30 hours per week could give me £250.00 spare. Now which one to go for that is the question?

Also will my employer let me drop my hours? I will be writing a letter to them giving them 4 weeks o change my contract... will they do it? Also what do i put in the letter? i was going to put in there about my depression (my line manager knows about last time) and basically my standard of living...

i know this sounds foolish on paper as it would mean i will have to stay at home longer but i the mean time (with all the spare time i would have) i can concentrate on looking for better employment, as at the momment i have one day per week to look for and then attend interviews.

so what does everyone think? am i being foolish/stupid or is this the way forward? bearing in mind yesterday i was all for handing in my notice with no job to go to?
  • it gets worse  i have just phoned up and cancelled my overdrafts on both accounts :j only then to open todays mail and see i am being charged £28 to each accounts on the 31st may thats a total of £56  shall i send my begging letters now or wait untill the moneys taken?
  • well i just knocked £5 of my bt bill :j thanks lynzpower, i know its only £5 but every little helps :j

as regards the bank charges if you have enough confidence then go into the branch and ask to have a private meeting wiht someone in the ifnancial advice section ( ) then plead a sob story about how your trying to get on top of your finances but your struggling through helping your mum pay her debts (they'll be able to see the payments to the dca). Explain how much the charges will hurt your budget for the month and how tight it is. You may have to concede and reinstate an overdraft on your accounts but that can be cancelled (without being used) at a slightly later date.

if not then write and send off the pleading letters asap. depending on the dates your bills come out you may manage if they get taken then returned to you. but i think the visit and sob story may work better and quicker.

as regards your driving lessons keep on at your instructor and if they still don't return your calls get another one quick! don't lose your test money or waste the chance to get it 'over with'. you'd been doing so well keeping stuck in you owe it to yourself to give it a shot.
  • hi all just wanted to give an update... i have done nothing... nada... nothing :rotfl: I have decided why should i let the people i work with dictate my life  so i will stay put, same hours, same wage... but i am looking so badly for a new job... full steam ahead, and if it means i have to stay in retail for a few months then so be it....

i have also booked a driving lesson, i have appologised to my instructor and we have a lesson booked on saturday the test in is three weeks so i need to get lessons in and i need to pass...

anyways, sorry if i have upset anyone in my actions/choices over the last few days/weeks but i was on a downer but now all is fine and dandy... i will get a new job this side of xmas, i will pass my driving test within 3 months and i will this month use some of my paypal money to treat myself and i dont really care if anyone thinks i shouldnt do that but do you know what lifes about living... i am not in debt and i have all my life to save for nice things and i want to enjoy myself :rotfl:

Pap, try not to worry too much about not knowing exactly what you want from life or from your career - have you heard that 'Wear Sunscreen' song thingy? It's basically someone listing a load of advice and includes this:

'Don’t feel guilty if you don’t know what you want to do with your
life…the most interesting people I know didn’t know at 22 what they
wanted to do with their lives, some of the most interesting 40 year
    olds I know still don’t'.

Well I wasnt upset by anything I've read so far.

I think you defo need to be kinder to yourself, so go ahead treat yourself! (Remember what I told you :) )

As long as whatever you do doesnt incur more debt I dont see that much of a problem to have a month off!

Glad to hear you're on the job hunt. If you want me to look over your cv for the retail jobs you're applying for, I'm alsways here.
I found that it was useful to have a couple of cv's dependant on the types of jobs I was applying for.

Good luck on your driving lesson, just remember to breathe and dont take too much personally from your instructor. He might have been having a bad day that day too! I'm sure you'll be fine and your test will seem like a breeze!

Keep up the positive attitude, and you're right, your life is for your living!
