well day one of looking for a new job and i have started with the nhs jobs website, i am looking at all admin/secretary jobs avalible but most of them ask for 'RSA II typing skills or equivalent' anyone know what that is  is it still worth me applying

I did RSA 1, 2 and 3 at an government funded agency called 'Starting Off' near my home in Northampton - didn't cost anything and I went there for 4 days a week. They helped me to find my first admin job at a recruitment place. I think you can do RSA word processing, text processing and audio typing - they all run alongside eachother. Am positive you can find these courses if not for free, then for very very cheap. They taught me to touch type - just a book of exercises really - will see if i still have it laying around somewhere for you PAP. x

Oooh - think the equivalent would be to be able to type at a speed of 35 words per minute, accurately. So long as you're PC literate which you obviously are I don't think this would be a problem. If you joined a recruitment agency at any point they'd test you for free as part of their signing on process. Yes it's worth applying, so long as your CV is shipshape and you sell yourself in other ways x

  • well its that time of the month and its payday on tues :T so i am going through my soa again  i was going to do this the weekend but i have had to go onto a new notepad this month so i dug that out today :rotfl: now all looks ok untill you look at my account balances now

so here we go... accounts today
    bills ~ -£43.80
    spending ~ -£27.11 :naughty:
    savings £42.27

now i had a letter today from lovely natwest saying i will be charged for going over my overdraft thanks to me not cancelling that standing order, i have also phoned sainsburys and they said that their bank should push it back as my account is now closed or i have to phone them next week for a cheque  but £30 of that will now be swallowed through natwest  so i cant count it really

    so soa ~
    £100.00 ~ mum
£70.00 ~ bt (i am hoping they will reduce this soon as there is no debt on this account now )
    £11.00 ~ house insurance
    £3.28 ~ bike insurace
    £48.00 ~ bus cards
    £6.00 ~ deno
£180.00 ~ driving (i so wish i could scrap this )
    £18.00 ~ xmas savings
    £300.00 ~ savings (sig)
    £50.00 ~ me money

    sub total ~ £786.28

    reinstate accounts ~ £70.91

    total ~ £857.19

now i have no idea if i will hit this ammount this month  but i do have 7 1/2 hours overtime and 7 1/2 hours double time but i did have 6 hours sick (i have no idea if they will pay this) so all the overtime should tally £119.70 (thats without the tax they will no doubt take ) add my basic will give me a total of £832.29  £24.90 short :o hopefully my brother will give me back the £21 he owes me and i have £1.80 here but i am still £2.10 short :rotfl: more if the tax man takes a huge cut

I also want to phone the bank up on payday and cancel both overdrafts, £100 on my bills and £50 on my spending account as this really is debt in all honestly... its a shame as i cant get an extra day in before payday, but as cutoff has been and gone it would be pointless anyway :o next month will be super tight

Pap, I think that you should write a letter to your bank and ask for your charges to be refunded. I have done this on several occasions and it has always worked. Something like this.

    Dear Sir/Madam

Thank you for your letter of ....date.... informing me that you have deducted charges from my account due to the fact that I went over my overdraft limit. This was due to an oversight on my part as I forgot to cancel a standing order to an account which has now been repaid. I am afraid that I think your charge of £30 is excessive. I am attempting to keep my finances in good order but it is very difficult for me to do this when you deduct large amounts from my account in this way.

I have not budgetted to lose this money and would therefore be very grateful if you could return my £30 to me as a goodwill gesture. I look forward to hearing from you in the near future.

    Thank you for your assistance.

    Yours sincerely

    Name

Pap, that is the kind of letter I write and it has always paid off apart from the last time when they said Id had too many refunds. However, you have nothing to lose by writing to them and you might be £30 better off. :)

Of course you can borrow my template; thats why I wrote it for you :). Write the letter to the address on the letter that you received from the bank telling you about the charges. Also address it to the person who signed the letter. So if it was Andrea Hobbs, Customer Services Advisor for instance I would address it to her personally - Dear Ms Hobbs etc and put on the envelope for the attention of Ms Hobbs, Customer Services Advisor
