I think that it would be a fantastic job and you might find that you like it so much that you will want to stick at it. It will certainly pay well and you will be in a good environent and a respected position. I think you should go for it Pap, and have some ambition for yourself. :)

You are lucky living in Bristol to have that opportunity. I think there are quite a lot of jobs.

  • Hi again PAP

You have had some great advice on this thread, as always.

I can see the logic behind staying at home a little longer to allow you to go to college etc. I agree you don't need a car - yes, definatly pass your test cos then noone can take it away from you. But from what you say on here a car wouldn't be a worthwhile expense for you at the moment.

As for wanting office work, i would have thought there'd be loads in a big city. Have you approached agencies about it? Try https://www.office-angels.com
or something similar - i'm sure your local job centre will have details of your local ones. You might be able to get something on a similar / slightly higher wage than you are on now and you have the bonus of added experience.

Apart from that, is there possibility of promotion in your current job. You said you were better qualified than your line manager so if there are vacanies make sure you put yourself forward.

I think thats the gist of my advice really - you need to put yourself forward for things! Maybe try to 'pretend' that you are confident when talking to people / asking for things. The longer you keep up the 'pretense' then eventually it will become second nature to you and you really will feel more confident.

I agree a hair cut and some (cheap) smart clothes could work wonders for your image - definatly do it before you go to any interviews.

You have so many friends on here PAP, try to believe in yourself!
  • thansk tes, the more i read about it the more i feel like i would enjoy working in this sector... i can do a course online (with that link i gave you) for £400 but i will need qualifications... ie up to date word processing (i did this at school in one of my gces) and speed typing, but i could do courses for these (distance learning) while doing my maths gsce (i dont know) but yep this seems doable and the right thing to do :)
  • thanks findingmyownway i must say i do sit back and let others take over, its just my nature so i will start being confidant and be myself more... why not  i am the same as everyone else, i have saved that link, thanks

Its exciting, isnt it when you find something you would like to do. I wish you luck but I think you have a hunger to learn and to get on so you will do well. Dont let anyone or anything put you off your ambition. All you have to do is start saving! Though I do think this will lead you to better paid work. The reason you have been unsuccessful with office work is that you dont have the relevant qualifications yet. The more qualified you are, the more employable you are.

I think the link you provided - the Institute of Legal Secretaries, that course seems pretty good. I dont know how much it would cost but it would cover everything you needed. Thats a pretty good qualification to get when youre looking for work.

Hey PAP - just wondering, why are you putting down £400 a month for rent, would it really be that much? Just i've been living in Central London / Zone 2 for the past 6 years and i've never paid more than £380 even here. Is this for sharing? Am sure it could be brought down a bit, especially if it gives you the means to escape. Will shh now and let everyone else worldly give advice x

I must admit I was wondering that too but moving out now would not help you to study which you probably have to do to have any hope of getting a better job. Ultimately it is your decision.
