PAP ; I've lurking round your thread for ages but this is the first time I have felt a need to butt in.
(1) I do not know how old you are but stop worrying about the maths GCSE! If you are over 21 you will not need it for college and if you are under 21 I see you have an equivalent qualification. (Looks round furtively to make sure no-one is watching) I do not have a maths GCSE but do have a degree in Law and a PGCE - no one was bothered!
(2) If you really want to be a legal secretary then PM me. I started out as an Office Junior, progressed to legal secretary then fee earner, then team leader; took a year out to try teaching and came back to legal - sorry teachers but I could not stand it! A good legal secretary is worth gold dust and I am sure you will be. DO NOT DO ANY LEGAL SECRETARIAL COURSES - I honestly think that they are a waste of time and in my 12 years of legal have not met anyone who has done one! DO do something like CLAIT and RSA typing qualifications as then a prospective employer will look favourably at you - believe me I do when interviewing. However with yoru qualifications there is no need to limit yourself to secretarial; your GCSE results are a lot better than mine! There are vacancies for trainee fee earners - whereas these are low paid I think they are higher paid than your current job and you will progress. Your firm would then usually send you on courses with a view to donig ILEX.
PLEASE RESPECT YOURSELF.
Sorry for being a bit long winded but I do feel strongly about this.0 -
peb dont worry about butting in... this is a public forum, dont be affraid to post
1) i am 21 (just gone) now the maths gcse is a toughie... yes i do have an equivalent but i feel a 'proper' gcse maths would do me the world of good, mostly confidance wise etc etc... but again this is open for discussion...
2) i will pm you now... in all honesty i thought you get no where in life without qualifications, again i am fast learning that this isnt the case (oh how i love my old teachers) however i do feel a little stupid (for want of a better word) although i know i am not and i know i have a lot of good qualifications but because i feel stupid i dont allow myself to apply for jobs that i could achive i tend to apply for cleaning jobs/retail/pickers/process line packers... i think i need more faith in myself... and i am sure this will come with time...
off to pm you0 -
I think whether or not qualifications are important (career-wise) depends partly on what line of work you want to get into, but also they become less relevant the longer ago you did them. So for example I did my GCSEs about 16 years ago  (my GOD, surely that can't be right??????), and have gradually worked my way up the career ladder so to speak, and I have to be honest, when I go to an interview now, I don't even get asked what grades I got.
But if the GCSE will give you more confidence and open doors for you, then by all means go for it. Only you know what will make you happy and fulfilled in life"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
and the day was going oh so well
then i went on my driving lesson... i am now offically fed up of learning to drive a stupid car in stupid bristol... why whats the point?!? this is now my third rubbish lesson on the trot... and this time it was serious... i have had 3 lots of abuse thrown at me today (seperate incedints) i put the car from 3rd~1st and it should have been in 2nd... i have nearly crashed the car (other old ladys fault) and i nearly (by inchs) ran someone over... this is the third lesson that everything fallen apart and i am truely fed up of paying £30 a week for the privalidge of other road user to laugh at me and throw abuse at me... it is getting to the stage where i am slowly reach nearly 3k on driving lesson and i feel no futher ahead than i do when i started... i just think its totally pointless...and to make things worse i have booked my test so will lose £50...
... i do truely hate my life...this is the point where i usually go out spending to satify the anger/useless/idiot feeling into something good... roll on more debt!

yes he did a bit but its all my fault because i am not doing things slow enough but he is always pushing me and getting me to go faster then i cant get everything right because we are gpoing to fast, if i slow down he moans... we have now gone back to the basics and he is now sitting on the pedals againthe incident with the lady was her fault because she didnt give way to me on a double roundabout... i dont think i am ever going to pass and even if i do i will have to start all again when i get a car... i just want to miss out the bits in the middle and start learning to drive when i can afford a car... seems easier that way  still totally fedup and knowing that i have to go back to work tomorow and face my line manager is making it even worse... grrr i hate everything

Hi PAP, another lurker here. Just wanted to say, about your driving lesson, don't give yourself a hard time over it - if you can cope with such things then you're doing great as surely thats what 'real life' driving will be like? I don't blame you for being upset over it BUT there will always be idiots on the road unfortunately and you're showing that you can deal with them, you got through it. Give yourself a pat on the back for sticking with the lesson even though it was hard
well done

Thanks but i dont stick with the lesson week in week out i tell him i want to go home and he wont let me... i swear he gets off at seeing me upset and distressed like this... also i am not no way driving on roads if they are like this, i hate it... i feel unsafe, intimidated and useless0 -
Out of interest have you considered changing your driving instructor? I failed my first two tests and I think not really getting on with mine might have contributed. I had a little break and then started again with someone else and it was much easier.

That's not serious. But at least now you know what it feels like, so if you do it again, your clutch foot will tell you "This feels wrong" and will pause lifting up and you'll be able to check.postingalwaysposting wrote: »i have nearly crashed the car (other old ladys fault)
That's not your problem. A plane crashing on your house would not be a reflection of your flying abilities.postingalwaysposting wrote: »and i nearly (by inchs) ran someone over...
And what's the story behind this? I take it you weren't driving on the pavement...postingalwaysposting wrote: »this is the third lesson that everything fallen apart and i am truely fed up of paying £30 a week for the privalidge of other road user to laugh at me and throw abuse at me...
You are spending the money so you can learn to drive and have some personal freedom. Don't worry about it - everyone has crap lessons. I had some "great" ones, such that I wondered why I ever got out of bed, and I passed first time after 18 lessons. So it happens to everyone...postingalwaysposting wrote: »it is getting to the stage where i am slowly reach nearly 3k on driving lesson and i feel no futher ahead than i do when i started...
Trust me - you are.postingalwaysposting wrote: »i just think its totally pointless...and to make things worse i have booked my test so will lose £50...
We'll have none of that...or I'll send CAFCGirl round with her negative thought eraser...and you wouldn't want that... :eek:postingalwaysposting wrote: »... i do truely hate my life...this is the point where i usually go out spending to satify the anger/useless/idiot feeling into something good... roll on more debt!
You're not useless. You're a learner. If you could do it perfectly, you wouldn't be learning. You're going to have to learn that sometimes on the roads it just all turns to shiite.
And that's even after you've passed your test."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)
