OK - that's a valid complaint. Because of this, bagginslover thinks she's can wait longer before collecting and when she gets there the package has been returned to sender. But why hasn't the sender got it back? If Royal Mail have neither delivered it to the addressee or returned it to the sender then they have lost it; so the sender should be refunding or replacing and claiming compensation from RM. bagginslover shouldn't be out of pocket.
Or if it's international... is the dispute between the sender's postal service and RM? The sender still claims from whoever they paid to carry out the delivery don't they?
In a word, yes, rightly or wrongly, it's the seller who refunds and then has to reclaim. As these were international items I would hazard a guess at no return addresses being on them. Then they would be sent to Ireland and a sender would try to be found from what was inside the parcel.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
Id say you could ask the postie to be put on a different walk but i very much doubt it would happen.
The sorting office could stop delivering ALL your mail (if they chose to) and force you to collect it from the LDO tho just like they can if dogs are loose etc.
Also an ex postie...0 -

If only they were-both items had return addresses on, provided to me by the depot do I could try to chase them down before leaving the country, but they never arrived back with the sellers in china and Thailand. Of course I only have their words for it, some eBay sellers can be very shady, equally, so can some countries postal services. I've accepted that I've list those items and their values now, I just want to avoid further losses. Please excuse my bad spelling and missing letters-I post here using either my iPhone or rathr rubbishy netbook, neither of whch have excellent keyboards! Sorry!0

There y'go bagginslover... If they haven't been back to the sender, they might be in this depot that mazza111 tells us about. Good Luck with getting RM to find them and deliver them again:)
I think that's the one my lost bear went to. They log and track everything in the hope of reuniting it with their owners. I phoned them and gave some details (can't remember what) and they searched somehow and found naughty bear and his clothes!
I think 1 week is far too little. People go on leave for longer and if something gets sent and can't be delivered it disappears!! Not all items are things that are ordered but things that people send as gifts!!0 -
Yes it can be Murtle, but it's also a condition of RD. As Custardly said, they will be changing this soon4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0

I find that rather rude. I have tried to be helpful to the OP explaining about the cards. Given her the info that I would have given any customer coming into the office to collect a parcel. She may not have liked what I said but alas, it was the right advice.
This is exactly what I am talking about, if you don't use the EXACT/CORRECT wording then you pick it to pieces! Obviously I didn't mean everyone, stop being so bloody picky!
I apologise to ALL including yourself who want to help people with any questions, I know there are a lot of genuine people that do want to help and other that just want to start a row. That is all I was trying to say.NEVER REGRET ANYTHING THAT MAKES YOU SMILE:D

When did your dad stop working for Royal Mail?0 -
The op said their father worked on the "post office counter" and the postal system for 30 years.
I doubt he was ever a postman or worked in a sorting office though i could be mistaken0 -
