so we pay extra for a lesser service?
The extra you pay for recorded is for proof of delivery (i.e. a signature) ONLY!!

A standard 1st class item will take the same amount of time to arrive as a 1st class recorded item!!!

The packet tick makes my collection office guys go to the boxes area to collect the items not the small envelopes section.

So recorded packet is a box that needs to be signed for. Recorded on its own is going to be an envelope to be collected.

The guys in our collection office are fab.

Sorry, I don't think your postie is wrong. But then if I couldn't get to the post office I would request a delivery soon than a week. The fact the post office have lost trackable post is there fault as it should be tracked. In fact, the offices that deal with post that hasn't been collected are fab and work hard to reunite post with the owners. Much to my joy when a travelling Charity bear I posted got waylaid. The lovely people found him and all his clothes!

    I hate loosing my edits;

But what is said was - I don't think you'll have much luck changing your postie, but could you post a copy of your card so we can see what is different on it? This may help explain more what is going wrong.

If it is recorded and needs a signature then this is the only box that needs to be ticked, what it is (packet or letter) that requires a signature is pretty irrelevant. Plus the "collect after" time should be completed as that is completely dependant on the postmen's route.

If a signature is required then you have only 7 days to re-arrange delivery or collect the parcel.

I got caught out with this recently, my parcel office is miles from where I live and I only go that way once a week or so. I thought I had 3 weeks to collect a parcel but when I got there it had gone, the signature box on the card hadn't been ticked.

So yes, it is really important that postmen get this right.

But I don't think you will get anywhere asking for a different postman.
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D

right clarification time :) I retired as a postie in March this year, can't see things having changed that much since then

The reason he's ticked all those boxes is to give the PHG (person on the counter) as much information as possible to make the item easier to find. As packets/recorded/specials/tracked are all stored in different places. Unless like some offices they store by duty number as some do, but we worked in different classes get stored in different places.

I think as you complained before about it not being filled in right, he's doing it right.

There's nothing worse than being handed a card that just says Recorded, you go through all the recorded letters, then have to go through all the recorded packets because the postie hasn't ticked letter or packet.

He's ticked all that is necessary to find the item, I would expect to find a recorded packet with your name and address on it. He should however have put a time scale on it. If he's a walking postman, it could be 24 to 48 hours depending on what system he uses to deliver. If he's driving a van, it may be less.

Do you have the right to ask him to be removed? You can ask but I doubt you will get very far. Can you asked to get him removed from deliveries all together? I think they may laugh you out of the office.

And as for the comments on the ebay thing... No, the sender has to prove delivery to your paypal address, not just an attempted delivery, so I'm afraid you didn't put your case too well.

  • Bro?! Thats a little presuptuous, I am infact female, and no, not 'trollin'' thanks, better things to do with my time than upset the internet for no reason.

Yes, so you are paying for someone to make sure it gets delivered personally effectivly (one hand to another). Whatever label you want to put on it, thats a better service (though I do see your point about it still being 1st class and delivery times, thank you).
Please excuse my bad spelling and missing letters-I post here using either my iPhone or rathr rubbishy netbook, neither of whch have excellent keyboards! Sorry!

Yea, you don't want to be going around upsetting the Internet, especially since it's parents have just split up, it's a bit emotionally unstable at the minute

Agreed - this is the only mistake he has made on the card.

Actually, I believe Paypal will side with the sender if it shows as delivery attempted. Its not the senders fault that a buyer is not in AND won't collect their post.
