I am getting to the end of my tether with our postman. In the last year I have lost 2 valuable packages because he has filled out the 'something for you' red slip wrong, they were items sent from abroad which once in the system here were required to be signed for, both times he neglected to tick the right box on the form meaning I left it too long to collect them. Neither item made it back to the ebay sellers, and I was unable to claim for the items as ebay deemed it to be my fault!).

Today I get home to find another red slip, which must be a xmas gift as I now have parcels delivered to work so I won't lose them. He has ticked half the boxes on the form, and hasn't added a time to collect it after in the space provided on the back. I phoned the depot, and they were similarly unhelpful, saying that if he's not filled it in, I should come tomorrow (I will be passing today, tomorrow will have to be a special trip).

I was told after the last item was sent back that he would receive retraining, but it doesn't see to have worked. It is definitely the same man, as he has very distinctive handwriting. Can I now request that he is removed from our round? I know that'll just push the problem elsewhere, can I ask that he is taken off deliveries?

I'm sure you will tell me its nothing to do with me how he is dealt with, but when I am out over £100 in goods that are lost to me because he can't tick the right box, I think SOMETHING needs to happen.
Please excuse my bad spelling and missing letters-I post here using either my iPhone or rathr rubbishy netbook, neither of whch have excellent keyboards! Sorry!

I don't understand. What boxes? If you get a slip then it's always 'pick it up after 24 hours' isn't it? How long did you leave it?

Isn't there a box to tick which say where it's a recorded or special delivery? Don't you get a week to collect special delivery and three weeks to collect all other items before they're returned to the sender?

I have seen so many complaints about people's postman on here, but ours is fab and really helpful.

The amount of time it's at the sorting office is dependent how the item was sent (See bottom of card)
  • but when I am out over £100 in goods that are lost to me because he can't tick the right box, I think SOMETHING needs to happen.

Well yes - you need to collect your parcels or rearrange delivery when you get a card through the door. No?

I fail to see how it is his fault, surely you're out over £100 because you didn't collect the parcels?

How long did you leave it? I certainly wouldn't be leaving £100 beyond the second day after the card was received. Although I nearly always collect the next day.

I find it difficult to believe you couldn't collect or arrange for someone else to collect a parcel in a couple of days. Especially when you were expecting them!

Yes, but is always at least a week!
  • Exactly, its dependant on how it was sent, the last 2 times he's ticked the 'packet' box, which should have given me 3 weeks, but both items were recorded, giving me just a week. I could have collected them in time had I known, I'd have made a special journey, but as its way out of my way to go there, and I thought I had 3 weeks to do so, I waited til I was passing-no parcels! Its not 24 hours later, its after the time they are supposed to write in the box, which could be 24 hours if thats what they put, but I've seen may times depending on the postie and their rounds that day.

This time, he has ticked both the 'recorded Signed for' and 'packet' boxes, and the box for the number of hours to wait before collection is blank. He has also ticked both the 'a signature is required' and the 'it's too large' boxes for the reason it wasn't left (my form doesn't look quite like that one).

could you not just phone the number on the card and ask them what sort of parcel/packet it is?

So he isn't at all to blame, even though he ticked the wrong box entirely? I'm afraid his boss disagreed with you on that.

I have phoned, but as I said, they were very unhelpful. Just told me to come tomorrow. The man I spoke to didn't sound very bothered at all, not that I expected him to be at all, I'm sure he fields calls all the time, and he can't do much without the things to hand, so I'm not upset with him at all.

My Dad used to work in the postal service, so I know a little about how it all works, and this isn't it.

Yes thats possible. Its a packet rather than a letter or large letter and its recorded so requires a signature.

and the box for the number of hours to wait before collection is blank.
So you said you were passing later anyway so call in. Worse answer you will get is come back tomorrow.
He has also ticked both the 'a signature is required' and the 'it's too large' boxes for the reason it wasn't left (my form doesn't look quite like that one).
Yes - as above, a packet is too large for your letter box and its recorded so needs your signature!!

    Its simple really!!
